Fasting is an essential part of the human experience and will not kill a child.
I had one to two meals a day for much of my childhood and from time to time went without food for twenty-four hours at a stretch. In fact, I still eat like this and am in excellent health.
Further, Muslims spend an entire month fasting during daylight hours and there are around two billion of them. If you truly thought that this was an issue, then you'd be working overtime to prosecute Muslims who ask their children to observe Ramadan.
However, that would never occur to you because the "life necessities" of a Muslim would never cross your mind, and because you know full well that missing a meal is no big deal.

I have heard that the eldest girl who broke away once she turned 18 has a good relationship with her aunts. As an aunt myself, it is so, so very hard to do anything (legally) to protect kids from emotional and mental abuse. Believe me! So, we try to foster a loving and caring environment for the kids, so that when they can break free, they have someone to turn to. It is hard to explain unless you have been or are in that type of situation. There is very little that can be done when emotional and mental abuse is taking place because it can't be "proven". There are no physical bruises, cuts, broken bones, etc like there is in physical abuse. It is very unfortunate and heart wrenching.

There was a real concern by viewers & neighbors that eventually there would be a kid leaving that house in a body bag. She has openly admitted to withholding food & making claims that kids need to feel pain. I never watched her channel, I only knew of her because of how many people were discussing how insane they felt she & her husband were. This is a genuine question from a mom struggling with a picky eater:
How do you approach the situation where a child won't eat what is served and demands something else? I'll accommodate up to a point, but I also don't want my kids treating my husband and I like their personal chefs. Food is expensive and I'm trying to prevent as much wasted food as possible. they don't WANT to eat their vegetables no matter what. So, my husband I will straight up tell them, "This is dinner. You do not have to eat it; I won't force feed you. But THIS. IS. DINNER. Nothing else will be offered. Eat it, or go hungry." Of course, there is also "Leftover Night", when the kids can choose any of the leftovers we have on hand, but realistically, they can usually ask for any of the leftovers of other meals on any night and will be allowed to do that. There's also plenty of occasions where the littlest one will say he doesn't want a particular meal, but then he DOES want it as soon as his older brother gets served, but then he DOESN'T want it again and I'm not going back and forth with him over and over again. He needs to learn to say what he really wants and be held to it.

I've often wondered if I wouldn't have been so very skinny as a kid/teenager if I'd been allowed to eat when I was hungry. But I also want my own kids to eat a full and proper meal at meal time, so they aren't allowed any snacks within an hour before meals. They also usually won't get dessert (on those days when dessert is an option) if they say they are full before finishing a meal, though some exceptions are made at times for various reasons. @@llamalinguist3250 There is a fine line between strict discipline and child abuse, and To never cross that line and become an abuser, you need to do three main things: never take joy from disciplining your kid. You are doing this to help your kid become a more productive person in society, not some way to show you power over your child; never joke/threaten them about the discipline. If you do that, you are weaponizing the punishment, and they will fear you. social media was strictly forbidden, and online multiplayer video games were strictly forbidden as well, and I didn’t have a phone to do texting with until I was 18 years old, so I had a hard time connecting with my few friends in Boy Scouts outside of meetings or camping trips.

Losing dinner as a punishment really hits home for me. As a kid my birth mother weaponized custody against my father, and if I didn't lie and say something that my dad did that my birth mom could tell the social workers, then I wouldn't be allowed to eat. This was so traumatizing as a child ( I was around 5-6 years old at this time) that I blocked it out and only remembered this happened because I saw the court documents many years later as an adult. This type of punishment is absolutely sick and twisted. These parents are the scum of the earth

As an LDS member I get super sad whenever something like this happens because the majority of the articles that cover this story are going to make it about them being mormon and using this family's pain as a weapon to say "Look, Mormons bad." I mean, the first line in thr NPR coverage of this was that Ruby was Mormon and it drew special attention to that the whole article. Thank you for not even mentioning it once in your coverage. It goes without saying that the LDS church doesn't support this kind of criminal activity or treatment of children, and leaving her religion out of it made a huge deal to me and my family. Whatever gripes people may have with their understanding of LDS doctrine, understand that the official stance of the church when it comes to family is VERY traditional, and children are NOT to be exploited, used, or abused and those who violate such are quite candidly condemned with severe punishments as far as their affiliation with the church in any official capacity is concerned.

@@SamanthaDavidson-jb4ck utah has abusers that move there to try to take advantage of the trusting nature of us Latter-day Saints, AND just like in California, these types have pushed the justice system to at least give them time to squirm out of it's grasp.
Cwic Media just did a video about abuse in the church. Stop pretending this is "a morman problem". We Utahns have the teacher's union here too, we have therapists on both sides of the political aisle and all THAT implies, and we have a disgusting obsession with expanding the housing market in a valley that suffers from severe smog inversions.
Stop pretending that anti-religious bigotry and prejudice will help solve child abuse! if you want to fight this stuff then go find out how to do the work to make changes instead of pissing on beliefs you don't like!
(sorry if i read your intent wrong, i just REALLY get tired of people trying to slander us)

@@SamanthaDavidson-jb4ck didn't the 12yr old escape in Santa Clara? Isn't that CA?
I don't know for sure, I just assumed.
CA isn't much better. The system here is wild. Abusers keep their kids, good parents loose them everyday, I can't quite figure it out....personally I just try to avoid them all together!!

This was a well put together video, thank you. I hate that so many people praised her and loved her parenting back in the day. It made me sick back then and still now.

Being stay at home and being with my children 4yo and 14 months 24/7. This mom, what she did to her children, made me sick to my stomach. She deserves life in prison.

Wow, I don’t even speak harshly to my kids in front of their friends. Discipline is a family matter, I can’t imagine showing my kids’ missteps to the world.
