Country music is not the only genre to do a lot of sad songs. Their slower tempo and having the singer's voice above the music instead of buried in high volume music. Pretty much everything I heard Adele sing is about misery. " Smoke on the Water" is all about a tragic real life fire, but the music is so catchy most do not really think about its lyrics. Abba, " The Winner Takes It All " and these are just a few that come to mind right now.

There's a great interview of Dolly talking about Whitney's version of the song. Apparently she knew they were using it, but she wasn't sent a copy before it was released and the first time she heard it was on the radio driving home from her studio. Said she almost wrecked the car. Had to pull over. She couldn't believe they took that "little song of hers" and turned it into something that big. She's joked over the years when asked if it bothers her that a lot of people think it's a Whitney original that she didn't care if they give Whitney the credit, so long as she keeps getting the check! lol She made a mint off of that. It's a beautiful song and her rendition of it very tender and passionate. Which makes sense, given she wrote it.
This was a song she sang in the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in 1982. With her and Burt Reynolds as main characters. Great seeing you again hope you will doing more Home Free soon. Truly enjoy watching your reactions.
Hello Half Pint & GITANO'S!!! Hope everyone has a amazing weekend! This was wrote by Dolly Parton & produced by Porter Wagoner - it the only why he would let Dolly leave his show! As your other comments say the song was wrote to say goodbye to Porter Wagoner and his show - a nasty legal battle between the two began soon after! Long story short they made up years later, Dolly even bought Porter Wagoner music catalog when he was in bad financial times - but Dolly gave it back too him no charge many years later! This is just a absolutely gorgeous song & she look so sweet here!!! Much love & positivity Half Pint & GITANO'S!!!💙💟💙
She said when she was little, she came off the mountain with her family and saw the town tramp, and thought she was absolutely beautiful so when she grew up she wanted to look just like her.She commented"it costs a lot of money to look this cheap"
Dolly is amazing! I've never heard any other artist with such relaxed attitude to her looks. Like saying it cost a lot of money to look so cheap, an referring to her front, nothing grows in the shadow of these. That was when she was asked about her thin waist. Or when she said she would burn her bras, but it would be a very big fire. She is also a tough businesswoman, and not to forget, a great songwriter and artist.
Always loved this song, Great reaction as usual, thank you for doing this. So close to 100k I'm sure you are excited to finally get there. I believe it's just the beginning for you. I got to see Dolly live in 1978, It was a great show.
Dolly is an absolute queen and an icon. This song is a timeless classic, both Dolly's original version and the iconic version by the late Whitney Houston.
Gitana, Dolly Parton wrote this song and she did an amazing job. She did have a hit with this in 1974, then ten years later she did have another hit with it again. Dolly did give Whitney Houston the okay to use her song in the movie The Bodyguard and Whitney did have a monster hit with it. So three times that song was one number in thirty years or so. Dolly Parton thought Whitney did that song better than she could have.
@@pattiyoung2513 I know that she wrote the song for Porter Wagoner when she was leaving to go on a solo career this version is the best out of all the versions that I've heard
Great video as usual love your reactions. You wear your heart on your sleeve which makes them so much more real. This was A Dolly Parton classic. When someone asked her about all the credit Whitney Houston was getting for this song, Dolly replied. “She can have all the credit, I just want the cash”. Pure vintage Dolly!!😂😂. However, I think her greatest song is Coat of Many Colors. If you haven’t already reacted to it, this a great song to do that. It’s a true story of her early life. Looking forward to your next video.😎👍👍👍
I have the privilege of meeting her several years back. She was opening a boutique in Nashville. We were there doing some “day drinking”. She is a very kind soul
This was Dolly without the "Doll". She was so beautiful before cosmetic surgery and extravagant attire. The best female voices in country are Dolly and Reba.
Drunk History has a hilarious episode about the story behind this song, and her long relationship with Porter Waggoner. Well worth the effort. Country songs are about life, Good, Bad, Funny, Tragic.

This comment ain't so much about the song or your reaction to the song but a little more reflection of you and the way that you bring up little things that mostly you see or recognize about yourself. Just be you. No matter how you appear or whatever others may think of you, be the real genuine Gitana. Love from Alabama
Fresh-faced and confident she was, even then. She was confident enough of a business woman to tell Elvis Presley, "No." when he asked to record that song. She knew she would have to give up all her rights to it (like every other writer did in order for Elvis to record their songs), and she knew her songs could be worth more down the road. And, she was right.
I was watching a reaction to “a coat of many colours” on top of the pops and in the captions it said she had wrote 3000 songs, who knows how many it is now.
This was written for Porter to record and Wagoner when they ways,Simon Cowell gets this wrong always says Whitney Houston song it's Dolly's.Elvis Presley wanted to records it but wanted rights to song wanted
Dolly also sang this song in a movie with Burt Reynolds’s in 1982 … “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. It’s a comedy and I’m sure you would enjoy it too. It’s a really sad moment when she sings this.😉👍
Crazy thing about this song is that she wrote this and 'Jolene' in her hotel the night before this show. Two of her biggest hits in a 2 hour writing session.
She’s obviously a beautiful woman, but I don’t think she’s appreciated as an artist as much as she should be. When this world loses Dolly, it will have lost one of the most special people it’s ever known. It’s rare that someone comes along and through their just existing in the public eye, you really feel like you know the person never even meeting them. Top notch person.
She is a country music legend and is absolutely appreciated so much so that she was just nominated to go into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame but being the person that she is she declined that nomination

@William Vanhoozer Dolly Parton also had this song Hit #1 in 1982 when her movie Best Little Whorehouse in Texas where she started alongside Burt Reynolds came out. The song Hit number one at least three times twice for Dolly Parton and once for Whitney Houston. Elvis Presley wanted to record this song but his manager wanted half the rights to the song and Dolly Parton said no even though she really wanted Elvis to record a cover of this song.
