  • In this clip we look at the three suction inlets on Engine 141 regarding their use and the fittings carried on them. The driver's side 6-inch suction inlet is set-up as the primary drafting inlet - it is outfitted with a 6-inch cam lock male connection in order to reduce the amount of work needed by the driver when connecting suction hose to the inlet.
The officer's side 6-inch suction inlet is outfitted with a 30-degree swiveling turn-down elbow trimmed out with a 5-inch Storz connection. This inlet is set up as the primary inlet when the engine is being supplied by a 5-inch LDH supply line. If the driver wishes to draft from this inlet, the elbow will need to be removed and a 6" NST Female x 6" cam lock male adaptor attached.
The front intake on Engine 141 is equipped with no special fitting - it is a 6" NST male connection. The front intake is the last choice during drafting operations because of its reduced flow. Should the driver choice to use the front intake to supplement drafting operations, a 6"NST female x 6" cam lock male adaptor will be needed.
The front intake can still be used for traditional hydrant operations.
