Neville "Noddy" Holder is the lead singer. They had 17 consecutive top 20 hits, of which 6 reached #1 on the UK Singles Charts all between 1971and 1973. A fun fact: Noddy Holder was a roadie for Robert Plant. He used to run him to gigs using his dad's window cleaning van. More Slade please ❤

When Bon Scott passed away in 1980 Noddy Holder was asked to join AC/DC such was his high regard as a lead vocal - one of the best rock vocalists - Noddy turned them down as he was still in Slade and believed in Slade even though Slade were struggling - no major record deal and playing in small clubs/universities at the time.
Would have been interesting if Noddy did join AC/DC as Noddy was also a very good guitarist and song writer with Jimmy Lea.
Asked by Wyatt if it was just an urban myth that he was lined to replace Bon Scott, Noddy confirmed that it was indeed true, however he doesn’t regret saying ‘no’ despite AC/DC’s gargantuan success with Brian Johnson.
“I was asked (to join AC/DC),” Noddy said. “They did approach me - not directly to me but they approached my management - whether I’d like to join AC/DC. I think they probably heard that Slade was sort of on the verge of breaking up and apparently, I was approached to join them.
“I said I’d turn it down, y’know, I still got in my head that Slade was still a force to be reckoned with and that we’d still be carrying on. But I would have turned it down anyway because Slade was my baby; it was the thing that I worked with for years, worked hard with for years.”
Noddy continued: “I knew Brian (Johnson) from the band Geordie and Geordie had played with (Slade) a few times. So, I knew Brian - I thought Brian was the perfect choice for them anyway. He's great. They became obviously a huge, huge band and produced probably some of the greatest rock music that's ever been - and still are! I mean I just loved AC/DC as a band
Wyatt then asked whether knowing what he knows now about AC/DC’s all-conquering success, would Noddy join the band if he could turn the clocks back?
Noddy replied: “No I wouldn't. I don't look back with regret on things like that. Not at all. At the time, you know, it was an offer that I had - I’ve had an offer to join many bands over the years - but no, I don't regret not joining AC/DC. I was quite happy with my own band (Slade). As I said, Brian was a perfect choice for them and it worked for them perfectly well.
“No, I don't regret it at all. If I was to go back in time, I'd have probably made exactly the same decision.”

Noddy Holder is apparently a British treasure. I 1st heard Slade in jr high & am now in my 60s.
I read his autobiography and was surprised to read about their 1st US tour. They were used to 🇬🇧 audiences who danced, drank, fought, and basically rocked along with the band. Holder mused that American audiences sat waiting for a show and he couldn't figure out how to get them enthused (hard to believe right?)
Then they opened for Humble Pie and witnessed Steve Marriot at his frontman best. Said Marriott had them eating out of his hand. Of course! I love "The Pie" and Marriot and understand entirely.
Maybe you give a listen to Humble Pie's Hot & Nasty? The title alone should get your attention 😊 (DO NOT Google the song title or you'll get sites pop up that you'll regret.😮 Find it on TH-cam)
As for Slade, I've never liked the American hair band covers. Without Noddy Holder, it isn't as good.
    ❤❤

Back in the day, when glam rock was in its hay day, there were many bands trying to take the charts. Bands like Mud, Sweet, Glitter Band & Slade. Every band had their one member that always Glammed it up, and Dave Hill (guitarist with the long hair) was Slades, the rest of the never knew what he was gonna wear before a performance. There is a weekly show that we had here that was a half hour music show every Thursday called TOP OF THE POPS and one occasion all the glam rock bands were on this show, it's was hilarious because everyone was trying to out stage everyone, it was all friendly rivals. It's on TH-cam and most definitely is worth a watch.

Most of the early 70s Glam Rock era in the UK was pure fun and not to be taken seriously at all. Bands like Slade, The Sweet, Wizzard and The Glitter band were all about entertainment. The Glam scene also had a few serious artists, like David Bowie and Roxy Music, who managed to include some intellect amongst the glitter.

Killing it with your reactions Jay. I am enjoying the more laid back feeling you’re bringing back to the channel. Keep it real. 🎶🎶

If you want a Slade song where you can shout...Get Down and Get With It. You won't be sorry. The 70's said Glam Rock...Dave Hill understood the assignment. 👍😊

I have found four versions of this song. Original by Slade and covered by the Runaways, Mama’s Boys and Quiet Riot. All a little different but all very good.

Can't wait for you to come across the very fun Slade song 'Lock up your Daughters'!
Although Far far away & 'Cum on feel the noize' are major bangers from them

In the outro of this song, you can hear the riff of Beatles Day Tripper. Just when it fades.
