    I very much enjoy these videos where you kind of experiment with different techniques! I find these niche techniques to be the most interesting part of miniature painting, and it's awesome how many of these techniques are packed into a single video. Great stuff, I hope you do more!

    I used to read the articles on your website YEARS ago. Had no idea you have a TH-cam page. Beautiful model. Love the weathering techniques. Great stuff. Miss those pastel craftworld Eldar from yesteryear.

    Excellent work, Tony! It's not very often I see Eldar vehicles weathered up.

    I'm experimenting with rust techniques right now. Even though it's not realistic, I do really enjoy stippling in a brighter orange with the browns and reds.

    Love the techniques and I've learnt a few new things to try out. The reason eldar flyers are always painted clean is they are made of wraithbone, which doesn't rust and can self heal. But the techniques here are solid and I'll use them.

    What a great project, The airbrush makes everything so easier for larger miniatures. I'm always lazy to paint the larger ones because I have to paint several coats with the brush, it's exhausting.

    It may not have started off as the right color, but I think the end result works well. Leaving a lot of the wash on made it look dingy, oily and grimy, all suitable for a wasteland theme. Also, the "aztecing" on the bottom makes it look like scrounged patches welded on over damaged/corroded panels and sections, which again suits the theme.

    whats the working time for after applying the hairspray? I would like to paint insignias on the model and do weathering over it

  • @MrJonasfr
    @MrJonasfr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen you use liquid latex on your talos before to create the rust weathering and here you go with the hairspray technique. Which do you prefer or do they work more or less the same? And also.. great looking model. Really like the weathered look in a universe like 40K.

    you did say at 20:00 that you did use white glue for glueing glass in place. What kind of of glue is that?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, white glue. Also known as Elmers or PVA glue.

    • @deende79
      @deende79 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThePaintingClinic
      I did think so. Is there some special reason why did you use this type of glue instead of normal plastic cement ?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plastic cement doesn't work on the hard clear plastic. It could also ruin the piece.

    • @johntailby74
      @johntailby74 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      deende79
      standard plastic cement won't bond through layers of paint. Superglue will give you white streaks all over the clear plastic.

  • @burntorangeandblue

    I noticed you've had mask leaks and runs in the past. Here's a tip; after you mask paint over the edges with the original color again and let it dry, then paint your new color. The 2nd coat of original forms a seal and if it were to run it would be the same color.

  • @adriansmith2639
    @adriansmith2639 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen you achieve rust effects using both the hairspray method and through using masking fluid. The masking fluid seemed to offer more control, but do you find one method to be arguably better? Is it more up to taste?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adrian Smith Can't say one is better. It's more about style. Hair spray is more realistic, but that's not always the goal.

  • @ssgtslick

    Don't loose too much sleep on color variations between units in any Miniatures game, except maybe Napoleonics. I have subtle differences in my Kurita Legion of Vega and Davion Guards, which is easily explained as differences in how long a particular unit was in the field.

  • @TheLukemcdaniel

    Hate to necrobump, but if you're planning to chip layers of red where you may have to lay it on thick, would it be advantageous to use pre-made chipping medium, or does the hairspray work exactly as good or better? Some alternatives are close enough within a tiny margin, but then you have some cases where you can thin with water or thinners, but thinners will give you more time/etc.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried a store bought version once and it was too thick to spray. I wasn't sure what effect thinning would have, so it was basically a waste. I know how to work with hairspray, it works fine, and it's super cheap.

  • @slgrimm1968
    @slgrimm1968 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tutorial. It may have been addressed before, but, do you clear coat between layers? (if so...gloss cote or matte cote), or is it all built up before sealing?

  • @manabity

    Great work! Question: is there any special airbrush maintenance required for spraying AK enamel washes? They look fantastic and I'd like to use it but I'm worried about messing up my brush (I use acrylics)

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Just have to clean it with enamel thinner. Also decent breathing protection is suggested.

  • @sneidng
    @sneidng 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    when you are taking off the enamel with the cloth - do have any thinner on it? or basically just a regular cloth to take the enamel off?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sneidng Most of the time it's just a clean cloth.

    Very very cool, I'd fallen out of the hobby and into scale modelling. It's the cartoony look of the eavy metal stuff that put me off but now I can see you can achieve a very convincing realistic (for a futuristic space ship) effect. I may dip my toe back into the pond. Also, are you the guy from back in the late 90s who did the pink panther marines and cow marine?

    learned some new techniques that I can't wait to try, you got yourself a new subscriber... question, when using the hairspray technique shouldn't you seal the underlayer of paint first before you spray the the hairspray? Or maybe I missed that part, Anyways I am really enjoying your videos, thanks!!!

    Your videos are becoming a bit samey lately. It's just hair spray rust over and over. I understand you're doing a large project here but everything is red, blue and rusty at the moment. Maybe mix in some other stuff to break it up a little?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd hardly call two videos out of the dozen or so from the past two months all the same. If you want to see more variety you can donate to my coming soon Patreon page.

    • @AstrayPenguin
      @AstrayPenguin 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThePaintingClinic The Yamato used a similar colour scheme and technique and was the major content for this past month, you did a tutorial on the rusting technique as well as using it on two models. The Titan used a similar red. I'm not trying to pick fault at you, I'm just saying it's a bit repetitive to see the same red on every big project you've done lately since the rest has been mostly dry brushing shades of brown.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AstrayPenguin
      I honestly don't see any similarity between, say, this one and the titan. Both had red in them, ok, but different techniques were use and as the painter they are completely different. I also try to do something new in each vid. A few of the latest ones had rust in them, but I showed different ways to paint rust.

    • @AstrayPenguin
      @AstrayPenguin 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThePaintingClinic But the shade of red either doesn't show up or "cover it in AK interactive and wipe it off" makes it all come out very similar. Then Grey with Aztec pattern. Remember it may only be one project to you, but the Yamato was multiple videos, so it stretches it out to cover a long period for the viewer which influences how common things feel.
