Floetrol is great stuff… can even use a splash of water with waterbased paints to help the flow… also if you want to get the paint on fast with waterbased you can use the short pile rollers by “two fussy blokes” they literally look like a spray finish it’s mad. I’ve used them myself in my doors and they look sprayed. Can lay off with a brush after if you want the brushes look! Happy painting 👍👍

But we love the colors! Everything is looking charming and more like a home daily.

To eliminate a lot of the roller marks use a pole and roll continuously top to bottom and back up overlapping 50% ,small strokes will leave roller marks.hope this helps

I've never been able to get on with water based gloss paint using a brush because it dries too fast. Painting 6 panel doors was a nightmare because I could never keep a wet edge & prevent drag marks, a problem I never had with oil based paints. I desperately want to move over to odourless non yellowing water based paint so this could be the answer. Subbed & liked.

  • @rosehawke2577

I've used Floetrol before and it made a definite difference. My problem was the paint, Benjamin Moore Aura IIRC, would dry so quickly that it was impossible to keep a wet edge. When I went to re-load my roller I'd find that the first bit had already dried giving no chance to touch up any ridges or ripples I might not have seen on the first go round. Cutting in was particularly problematic. At least the Floetrol allowed me to cut in and finish a wall before it started drying

One question how are the Tim standard and farm standard going to meet? Perfect v goodenough farm fix? 😂

Very interesting - does anyone know if this will help with patchiness in the paint? We have a dark orange matt emulsion paint that has had 8 coats (and the paint shop remade the batch for us inbetween given the problems) and it just isn't covering well at all, and looks like it needs more coats given obvious patches of light and dark paint. This was all painted onto a new white wall that had 2 coats of emulsion sprayed on.
And congrats on the 200k subscribers.
Although not sure about being back for the 50th time. I think I've watched most of your videos over the years, so a quick check suggests that's back for the 800+th time. Blimey! 😶🙃

I’m having difficulty with roller and brush marks on my ceiling, does the ‘floatatol’ work with emulsion. My patio doors extend to the ceiling and the light shows every mark. I’m at the point of hiring someone to spray it.

Hi all. Have recently used water based paint on a bedroom with lots of cupboard doors to do , to be quite honest I’m not impressed at all with it . Even using the recommended primer undercoat, the adhesion was terrible when applied to previously painted well prepared woodwork . So I’m afraid the next project will be back to oil based paint , I fully understand that manufacturers are having to bring these products to the market for environmental reasons . But as yet they are just not a viable alternative , I did try these products because of the lack of fumes they generate which is better for my breathing issues . But if at the end of the day , the end result is unsatisfactory then I’m not prepared to sacrifice the main point of applying pain to a surface which will need far more maintenance in the future . Also as a point of interest I would assume people now with the ability wash their brushes out in water, produce far greater amount of paint which must find its way into the drains and onto other waterways . So this must have an impact on the environment , with all the polymers used in there manufacture . I say all this because I think it would be a good discussion for you both to engage in , and maybe bring such issues into the public domain . Best wishes as always to you all. 😀👍👍👍

That's all I have done, especially when spraying however this stuff made it much more 'oily' so that brush marks just melted in like a traditional solvent based paint.

wow dont use it too expensive......................watched this problem before use blue screen wash that you buy in most shops instead didnt believe it , it works slows down the process pink or blue will do ..............years ago they use to use dryers in enamel paint that was blue it does not change the coloureven on white.... trust me it works
