    We have an old resin plaque brought back from Mexico in the 80s which has a very complex explanation of the whole thing in the back in very small print. Your explanation had us pulling it off the wall to look intensely at the details. Thanks for helping to give meaning to an old item.

    Such a pity that I never looked in to the sun stone before seeing it, and since having a replica of it as a kid at home. Despite having visited 12 different archaeological sites around Mexico, its nice to know that I can be sitting in bed at 1am and still learn about things I was too stupid to expand my knowledge on!

    For all the Mexican television I've consumed, I've never seen a peso (not "paso," that I'm aware of) until now - definitely paused at that point to appreciate it's features. S/o to the American Bank Note Company on the bottom, lol.
    The tongue-blade (tecpatl) was definitely a surprise! We do make sacrifices with and because of our mouths...
    Way to pronounce 4-Water! That was awesome, lol. Hearing the prophecy about getting rekt by earthquakes was decidedly less awesome... 😅 So much to learn in this one. I really enjoyed it.

    We started the new Mayan Calendar on December 22, 2012. The ending of the new Mayan Calendar is on October 13, 4772. That is a long time in the future. The Long Count will be 1.0.0.0.0.0 on October 13, 4772. This is called the ending of the Piktun.

      But there’s a prophecy that says a solar eclipse will be seen in the sky. Their sky, not ours, and on September 23, 2071 a total solar eclipse goes right through the Mayan pyramids on that day. It will completely black out the sun there. I just did some research on it.
      We might not make it to October 13th 4772.

    Death by water, I would think was the death of the aztec empire by Spaniards who came from the water (ocean). My ancestors were very smart people who didn't deserved to be wiped out and forced out of their beliefs. I am Christian, but because history decided that way. I sure think that indians were more in balance with nature than other religions. So sad that some people want to deny their ancestors and stop telling their kids that we were the natives and rightful habitants of this continent. Embrace your culture and keep telling with your skin that we are the rightful habitants. And of course, we are willing to share and leave peacefully. But stop denying who we are.

    Tlaloc is the God of rain (not rain of fire) therefore that era most likely refers to a "great flood"

    • @smarthistory-art-history
      @smarthistory-art-history  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      While you are certainly correct that Tlaloc is the god of rain - that does not exclude the third sun as being associated with death by rain of fire. Specialists in Mexica mythology support the reading we offer. See for example Dr. Manuel Aguilar-Moreno in his book "Handbook to Life in the Aztec World," Oxford University Press, 2007, page 139 where the world's end by a rain of fire, presided over by Tlaloc, is noted.

    I'm not an Aztec Historian, but you'd think that "1 flint" would apply to Montezumenas stamp on the other side. Reflecting perhaps the date of his anniversarial ascension to power.
    But hey, I'll just go back to being an uneducated boor.

    • @smarthistory-art-history
      @smarthistory-art-history  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good point and a broader one: Ancient Greek religion is referenced as myth, as are those practiced by for example the Romans, Norse, Egyptians, Olmec, etc. Essentially any religious belief system that was substantially subsumed, outlawed, etc. An accepted convention worthy of examination.

    for one it's not a calender ...it holds a hidden coded symbolic set of directions to where the Aztec homeland is .. the reason most believe it is a calender is the fact it has dates and time based directions on it ..this stone holds the directions back to chicomoztoc ! the seven caves ! and yes i can prove it . the seven caves is sealed and far above on a nearby peak is a large triangle with circle of old ruins in the center ...it has taken over 38 years to break this code ....the stone is a record of the tribes history and where it came from ...! i can even give you a date of when the stone was made .. it was made in the rule of the Aztec god known as the God of Wind ( for one it's not a calender ...it holds a hidden coded symbolic set of directions to where the Aztec homeland is .. the reason most believe it is a calender is the fact it has dates and time based directions on it ..this stone holds the directions back to chicomoztoc ! the seven caves ! and yes i can prove it . the seven caves is sealed and far above on a nearby peak is a large triangle with circle of old ruins in the center ...it has taken over 38 years to break this code ....the stone is a record of the tribes history and where it came from ...! i can even give you a date of when the stone was made .. it was made in the rule of the Aztec god known as the God of Wind ( Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl )...the 3 main symbols in this God of wind's name are at the sun triangle site and faces east to the rising sun ..and yes a lot of what is known as montezuma's treasures are sealed in the Seven Caves ! )...the 3 main symbols in this God of wind's name are at the sun triangle site and faces east to the rising sun ..and yes a lot of what is known as montezuma's treasures are sealed in the Seven Caves ! where it is going to stay ..! and sorry your wrong that person in the center is ( Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl ) if you look above his head you will see his tribal symbols they are also at the sun site ...and if you look those are not his hands but claws and they stand for the jagar and if you count the symbols there are 7 . and they are showing his place in the Seven caves as the leader of the shaman tribe
