They likely took this audio from the vinyl discs that Square was selling for the soundtrack. They tend to have a bit of crackling. I personally like it cuz it feels like I'm sitting next to a fireplace and hearing the crackling of the wood.
I envy you guys who played the original in your childhoods and later played this grown up, because as much as I like this so much that it makes me tear up, I know having played this back then would’ve made me full on cry when playing the remake

I was 12 when the original was released and it still hits as hard as it did back then. The story in truth I didn't understand some of it but I understood enough to be saddened by the story. The remake I've not played because I don't want to ruin my memory of the Original but tye remakes of the sound tracks are brilliant

You can feel the joy, sadness, hopefulness, hopelessness, mysterious and evilness throughout this track. All the emotions felt during Avalanche’s journey throughout the whole game. Beautiful composition.
though i'd love to associate this song as Cloud's theme, i actually associate Cloud's theme song as Cloud's Smile from Advent Children, the "im not alone, not anymore" speaks more soulfully to Cloud's growth. but both are good theme songs for Cloud!
Anxious Heart seems to be used most often for Cloud especially in the original game whenever he's dealing with his mental issues. I'd say if any theme is unofficially his it's most likely that one. This one is a reorchestration of the OG game's overworld theme and is just the main theme of FFVII overall.

whenever i listen to anything from either the og or remake ost i always tear up. this game means so much to me. so much of the world has changed but i have never once been let down by cloud or aeries or barret or cid or nanaki or yuffie or any of them. times were simpler not so long ago. thank you for making a home in my heart so many years ago and populating it with so many wonderful memories, square.

Oh man where is the breathtakingly epic and explosive crescendo? That to me has always been the definition of an epic theme, rivaling Lawrence of Arabia, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Mission, etc. Hopefully they're waiting for pt 2 and the world map to lay that on us. But this is still a beautiful take on the theme.

Yeah played ff7 as a kid, grew up witrh it, first game i really adored and had merch of and stuff, i teared up when I entered the slums in the remake
