    Also curious how Deep the 3 choice system goes. Whether it’s just simply 3/4 routes, or if we can get more unique dialogue and scenes based on our specific alignments.

      The game, according to one of the producers as they said in an interview, will have several endings.

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      From what limited testing I've done, the dialogue does change based on your choices when you're talking to characters like Dragan in Ch 2, but the rest of the conversations stays the same.
      In the "true" splits you obviously go to a totally different scenario and I'm assuming those will eventually lead you down the multiple route splits which should be completely unique maps, stories and endings!

    • @benmanutd2
      @benmanutd2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suspect the stories branches out pretty early on already, after you pick which country to go to in chapter 3
      But I am still waiting for my game to be delivered so I might be wrong
      I find it great to keep your conviction hidden
      Only showing that it has "strengthened" but you don't know which way it's tilting towards
      I accidentally triggered it (by interacting with the environment) in the demo and i wonder how my conviction may be affected

      So far that and the voice acting (I’m not a fan so far) are why I’ve stalled at the first “exploration” stage. I’m sure it’s great, I just have to give myself some time to sink into it--something’s are like that. But FE *did* suck me in in moments

    • @upsidedownmachiatto2670

      I switched to the Japanese VA. I wanted to like the English one so bad but there are just some characters that don't land it for me. Includes the MC who I consider subpar.

    • @zammich3649
      @zammich3649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I find the dialog much more engaging than FE (or at least 3H). FE was generally good (few negatives and plenty of positives), but the way Triangle Strategy is written is just so appealing to me. The English voice acting may be considerably less impressive, but it does give a unique vibe to the world which I do enjoy.

    • @oxc513
      @oxc513 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Despite playing through my entire first file in english VA and in ng+ with english as well, I agree with most of this comment chain.
      I feel like early on there's a lot of dialogue where the VA didn't seem great, but in later chapters there's a very noticeable improvement.
      I (personally) really like the decision to have that much dialogue, but I absolutely agree it can be tedious if you are just looking to slap some bad guys with tactical superiority instead of looking at sprites have a midlife crisis.
      I personally find TS's combat a lot more engaging; the leveling isn't based on rng so I don't have anxiety every time a character levels up, and the way exp scales with stage level is absolutely genius. However, I absolutely find the fantastical world of FE a lot cooler.
      To be fair, TS is a game, about, well, strategy. So it makes sense that the plot-defining moments are strictly political instead of mystical. Nevertheless, dragons are cool and pox to anyone who says otherwise.

    • @gargonovich
      @gargonovich 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's interesting, I find it to be exactly the opposite for me. Having the sprites actually inhabit the world rather than just be models on a flat backdrop makes the interactions seem more natural to me. And I like the emphasis on the dialog! I was worried when I heard it was dialog-heavy because if it isn't done well, it becomes really tedious. Golden Sun is a great example of doing it wrong, where the characters have enormous amounts of dialog while saying very little. The dialog in Triangle Strategy isn't just there to be padding, it's dense and interesting, which makes it really enjoyable. Well, it is once I switch to the Japanese voices, anyway, since the English is _real_ bad in this one. I literally burst out laughing a few times from how poorly read some of the lines were.

    As someone whose main experience with SRPG was Fire Emblem before playing the first demo, I struggled a lot to get in the mindset I needed to formulate a strategy to engage the enemy.
    But I became far more confident in my ability in battle after the beginning of the full game, and I really love being able to use support abilities such as Benedict's buffs and Julio's TP manipulation. Playing this game made appreciate the possibilities and potential of the SRPG genre a lot more.
    The Scales of Conviction portions is no doubt going to draw the ire of some people since important story decisions are decided by the party, not the player. However, I really do engage with the characters and the story a lot more because of it, and many times has the voting induced just as much heart pounding dread as the difficult boss battles of the game.
    I fear this game is doomed to be forgotten because of the risks it took and the fact SRPGs are a niche genre, but I would dearly remember my time playing this game.

    One thing you forgot to mention is the Character Stories, side cutscenes that give a little extra context and development to characters when you reach certain conviction thresholds, or story points, or a combo, or level the characters enough… I don’t actually know what triggers them.
    Almost all characters have these, and they act as a way to develop characters even further, from Frederica trying to deepen her connection with Seranoa, to Erador reminiscing about he and Benedict’s exploits in the Saltiron war, to Anna’s search for her parents, to Geela’s struggle with playing a supporting role in history while also wanting her own independence and carving her own path.
    You also have the optional units with their own cutscenes, like Lionel needing to be kept in check from scamming too much, or Jens trying to find the definition of strength and the reason he forges, or just generally exploring Hossabara and Archibald’s characters, etc.
    These play a valuable role in expanding all characters, and they sound like something Fire Emblem fans would enjoy.

    I'm looking forward to the game's release. That said, I think this is a case where being a fan of a genre, doesn't mean one will like a game in the genre. For an easy example, I'm a fan of fighting games as well as FE. There's a decent number of fighting games I don't like (SF2, Granblue Fantasy VS, etc.) I assume this will be a similar experience for some fans who haven't played other strategy games before.

    • @absoul112
      @absoul112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also I can’t help but think other FE fans need to play games without permadeath so they can realize that it is possible to have difficulty without it.

      I agree, it's a different kind of strategy game and I think everyone should give the new demo a shot at least, since the old one is a bit dated and clunkier while not explaining the mechanics as well as this one does!
      I'm normally a fan of permadeath myself, but you CAN have difficulty without it, it's just a different system that will need to push for other types of "fail objectives"

  • @chrs.7845

    I am so excited for this game. I have played almost every FE (besides 1-3) and I think the major differences from that series are interesting for me. For example the turn order really makes me think about how many enemies a unit will need to take after doing an action before the next ally can help them out.
    I'm not sure if I will allign completely to one "conviction" in terms of decisions, but I can't wait to see what I do to Norzelia on my first run. For the demo choices I'm going with Aesfrost for 3 and the top choice for 7. (vague in case some haven't played last year's demo)

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I remember the first demo, not sure which choice I'm gonna pick when the time comes to get around to that tbh, but I'll have to see how I feel about things in the next few chapters first!

  • @mekudu-man3804

    What I really like about this game is the trifecta of exploration, battles and story and all of them are kinda interconnected and none of them overstay their welcome. This is something I really dislike about FE and what you mentioned here - FE games are really fractured in this regard.
    You get character stuff mainly by directly engaging the character and battles by doing battles etc. and it really felt like a chore tbh.
    It also doesn't help that these things are tied to character progression and forming bonds is necessary.
    You know I like the bonding system in FE, but I hate having to pause what I am doing in the game to watch this cutscene for progress in that area. At a certain point I just skipped them, because I found it really tedious, but I felt really bad about it, because I didn't give the characters the spotlight they deserved. But progressing in the game and actually playing it was worth more to me.
    I think its really intriguing how TS handles this and this time around do I really like the characters. I never really liked or remembered any FE characters after playing the game aside from good performing units like Dedude or Petra and that's most what I liked about them. It also doesn't help that with the class system every FE character can become and arguably replace every other unit if you want them to.
    But this here is great.
    You really have to pick and choose and your choices really matter. Especially in that you can lose units permanently. And yes, I know you can lose units in FE by having them killed off, but this is an optional gaming mechanic and you can just restart the fight to offset it. But not in this case - your choices have permanent consequences and the party members just up and leave depending on what you are doing.
    I am really looking forward to this game and am excited for what it has to offer and what I can discover.
    I am also very glad for you covering it, as not many people tend to do right now.
    But this may change once the full game is out.
    Fingers crossed.

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I definitely hope many more people will cover this game when it comes out, and I'll still be here to cover it myself as well!
      The support convos in FE are fantastic when they're well written, but they can definitely be a miss, and also can break the momentum I agree. I'm a big fan of full total integration of story and characters in games so this should be brilliant if it continues to maintain this level of quality throughout!
      Tomorrow we'll get to finally crack it open and explore fully!

      This is why I was never interested in FE. The mood I'm in while doing tactical battles is completely different from the mood I'm in when I feel like doing relationship-Sim style games, so mixing the two together is a huge no for me. Even in something like Persona or Divinity, I either just want to do battles or I want to explore and mingle. Never both on the same day.

      I think I know what you mean about FE transitions between modes. I loved FE:3H, but that feeling of switching gears at the beginning of each month to talk to everyone, search every nook of the hub, return everyone's lost items, and plan out who is doing what activities... it's tiring, and sometimes I just scroll through most text because I want to move on. Then there's another "time to get this over with" moment when you succeed at advancing characters' social connections, and you have to watch a series of cutscenes...
      Triangle Strategy has similar transitions, but the amount of obligatory planning and in-between battles is much less daunting to take care of and feels more relevant. Even the character side stories keep things short while still giving you a fulfilling plot.
      (Valkyria Chronicles 4 is another game I think handled character stories really well, tying them between 3 characters at a time)

    i'm thinking the side characters will be involved in some side story scenes too, which will probably keep them from fading completely into the background after being recruited, so i'm excited for that! for instance, in roland's character trailer we can see rudolph and anna in a scene together, as well as ezana and hughette in another.
    also, i love fire emblem (my favorite being echoes) and it'll be seriously refreshing to play a game like TS where the anime tropes/comedy are kept to a minimum and the cast feels a bit more mature in general, like you mention.

    As a person who played FE3H, Octopath Travelers and the demo of Triangle Strategy.
    - User Interface of Fire Emblem is simpler to see and manage making you feel more in control and at ease. Fire Emblem character have icon on their head, so you know who to move and who has already moved. In Triangle Strategy, the tones of the character and background are too blended. It looks nice without doubt but trying to find the character and enemy and plan it out it painful.
    - Compared to Octopath, Triangle Strategy feel harder, more complex and more confused as there are more characters in various position that you have to manage. It cans be similar to advance wars but when you compared to Octopath where all the stats of all travelers are on screen all the time knowing when to heal, buff, debuff, charge allowing you to plan better making it more fun as you can see how you mess up.
    - On good side, I loves the dark tones of Triangle Strategy and can't wait to see the branching route story the game would takes especially being made by Square Enix. The strategy seen in game demo are creative with many mechanic such as traps, glider, pushing off the map, and more that will be interesting. The music will definitely rock like Octopath, we don't have to say much more.
    - I want to buy it day 1 but after knowing Square Enix from Octopath and Neo:TWEWY that they will do a cutthroat discount of the game by 50% or more within the first few months making your game devalue faster than Russian Rubles. I'll probably wait for it to discount but without doubt I want to play it.

    Saw this in my Recommended videos. Was never too interested in Square Enix's HD2D series since they all homage to games I've never played (those being the SNES era of Squaresoft titles), so if any of them were to catch my interest it'd have been Triangle Strategy as a FE fan.
    Was really let down by 3 Houses' atrocious map designs and was hoping to hear more about the gameplay but there doesn't seem much for someone like me who doesn't play games for story or characters. Kind of a shame since Fire Emblem probably isn't going to have any gameplay depth in exchange for narrative and presentation going forwards. Thanks for the insight.

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is primarily a story first game, and while the story:gameplay ratio does improve the further into the game you get, and become FAR deeper in modes like NG+, the story is what's important here. You CAN skip most story scenes, but I'd think you'd want to hear about it since there are multiple endings.
      If you want to hear more about the gameplay, I have another video on my channel called "Should You Buy Triangle Strategy", that covers pretty much all the general gameplay features in this game!

    I'm still excited for the game because it feels like fire emblem fates and octopath put together. I am concerned that choice may not matter as much and that the side characters don't fully feel like a character in the story after then main chapter but is too soon to judge.

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The choices will definitely matter down the line since it'll have route splits, but we'll just have to see how much they matter so I agree with you. I think the characters will be done well enough. One thing I forgot to mention in this video is the fact the game has those side story scenarios that appear in between main dialogue that show you what other characters are up to in other parts of the map so that will help enhance things too!

      After playing the demo I think permadeath should have been included because without it the game is way too easy. I used to play only casual mode in Awakening and Fates but after playing older FE games and getting used to permadeath I understand why the mechanic is needed. Being able to just suicide units with no consequence makes the gameplay kind of pointless. You are never going to have a fight hard enough that all your units die and even your lord dying doesn’t end the game. So it is pretty much impossible to lose even as a brand new player unless you actively try to lose. I will pretend permadeath is a thing and reset if someone dies but I think it should have been an option at least especially when you can save and reload in combat.

    @ElasticLove12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I went in looking to have a game close to the feel and gameplay of FF Tactics but instead the more I played I found myself feeling this game is much more closely related to Fire Emblem.
    Biggest part being in character progression and that characters are locked into classes but you need items to promote them and can choose what skill load outs you opt to get first. The side stories are essential supports, and unlike FF Tactics the variety isn’t in so much as how you choose to spec out each character but more so in who you chose to deploy for each map as each character has far fewer overall options at their disposal each turn.
    The combat feels a bit stale in comparison to the almost endless amount of ways a fight can go in Tactics but this is made better by the team up attack, terrain, and quiteses you can use.
    Overall I feel if you enjoy fire emblem you will almost certainly find something to like in this game. And if you were hoping for a spiritual sequel to FF Tactics then temper your expectations because this isn’t that

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it definitely has a different take on the word "variety". Every single unit in and of themselves is unique, and so it's more about experimenting with them than creating your own varied unit.
      It's similar to tactics otherwise, but it does lack the deeper equipment system and customization for sure!

    • @ElasticLove12
      @ElasticLove12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LinkKing7 ya agreed. The ability to choose your equipment and the amount of skills each job has plus your second dart job and support skills and etc makes FF Tactics the deeper more varied of the two. However that can easily be daunting and overwhelming and newer players to the genere may find the more limited amount of things each character can do per turn much more straightforward and easier to learn.
      I enjoy both games and I’m happy they went with their own take. I simply went in hoping for it to be much closer to Tactics.

I'll likely pick it up, but I don't know when I'll get to it. There's so many positives to the game too. For one, this game looks ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. The 2D HD style is so underrated. Loved it in Octopath.
    The gameplay looks interesting, and I'd probably understand it just fine if I were to actually get around to playing it. But I am a really huge fan of Fire Emblem's simplicity. Being able to easily calculate damage by yourself an create strategies around that is something I just love.

      Fire Emblem's simplicity makes it so much more accessible to newer players of the series/genre in general. I do appreciate the complexity of an SRPG though, because it means there are a lot more elements to play around with both on my end and on the enemy end to increase the strategy intensity.

    If the game doesn't have permadeath, then I think I'll pick it up just to see character deaths. It's something I wish Fire Emblem did more of: characters you're using get killed off for story reasons. It's something I like about Shadow Dragon's tutorial, with the sacrifice you need to make so everyone else can escape, and I think it's a positive element of Birthright's story if you don't grind for the A support with Kaze. Then there are all the character deaths from FE4 I know and don't know (haven't played the game yet), and kind of Ninian's kidnapping and "death" in FE7 (though Nils replacing her does take away from the canonical loss of your dancer).
    Thanks for twisting my arm, Link!

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, and the no permadeath goes well with the way the maps are designed and the combat happens. I lost units a LOT and had a decent chunk of full team wipes in the second half of the game so if it had permadeath it would've been BRUTAL. You also keep exp gained and kudos as well even if the unit dies or you get a game over, so that's nice too, don't reset!

    While this won’t be a Day 1 purchase for me, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on how well this game does. It definitely has my interest, but I want to get a clearer picture of how much the story choices matter once the game comes out.
    For my 2022, my gaming schedule is pretty stacked. I’m currently in the middle of playing _Xenoblade Chronicles X_ and am finally making legit progress (after failing to get into the game for 5-6 years). At the same time, I’m playing through FE5, but that may take a while to complete since the Munster arc is really stressing me out (to where I mentally can’t binge through it).
    Plus, my dad managed to find a guy who was selling a PS5 for a relatively decent price, so I now have a PS5 as a birthday present. I haven’t fully owned a PlayStation since the PS2, so I’m very excited to try a bunch of games like _13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim_ as well as popular series like _Kingdom Hearts_ & _Yakuza_ for the first time.
    I’m doing all of this before _Xenoblade Chronicles 3_ releases in September because I will be 100% focused on that game from start to finish when it comes out. I only have 6 months of time for other games, and the new PS5 (which I didn’t expect my dad to acquire so soon) has added a completely new factor to that equation.
    Right now, _Triangle Strategy_ is a wait and see kind of game as I already have a loaded backlog before XC3 comes out. I didn’t even mention the 3DS backlog now that I got a new 3DS (just yesterday) to replace my old one that’s been breaking down after 9 years. If I do get TS, it’ll probably be way down the line, but I’ll definitely be keeping tabs on the game’s critical and commercial success.

    • @LinkKing7
      @LinkKing7  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaaah a Xenoblade fan, very culture you are! X was my least favorite of the 3 I'd have to say, but I love 1 and 2 to death and I was going INSANE when they announced 3 in the last direct. I can't believe it's coming so soon but that's another game that I'm incredibly excited about!
      Sounds like a busy gaming backlog you have there, but at least Triangle Strategy has been estimated to be 30 hours for a single route so thats not too long of an investment unless you want to do all of them at once!

      @@LinkKing7 I recently finished Chapter 7 of XCX, so I’m about just over halfway done. I have no intention of doing every sidequest for this game like I did with XC1, so I’m mostly just focusing on Affinity Missions and installing as many Data Probes as I can.
      XCX is definitely a weird game and nowhere near as special to me as XC1 & XC2, but now that I *finally* understand the mechanics after 5+ years, I’ve begun to appreciate how much of an odd experiment it was for Monolith Soft. Hiroyuki Sawano’s score is . . . interesting, to say the least, but even the cheesy raps have somewhat grown on me.
      If I had to give my biggest gripes with X, they would be the UI (tiny text) and the godawful sound mixing. To use an analogy, the sound mixing is to XCX what tutorials are to XC2 in that they’re some of the worst examples I’ve seen in any modern game.
      On the topic of purchasing games, there are 5 series that I’m a diehard fan of in which I’ll buy every new game at launch: Ace Attorney, Professor Layton, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, & The Legend of Zelda. For a few years, I only stuck to those games without branching out much due to my bad habit of overspending when I was younger.
      Recently, I’ve tried some other games like the classic _Final Fantasy_ games, SMTV, and even _Astral Chain_ when I was sick with COVID this past January. I still want to play the other SMT games like III & IV (the latter of which I bought because of the 3DS eShop closing), and the PS5 has added new series like _Kingdom Hearts_ & _Yakuza_ to the mix. For the first time in a long time, I’m building up a lengthy backlog.

    I like the art style of this game, and the world building seems like it’s really good, but the fact that it’s way more story then gameplay makes it hard for me to enjoy due to my ADD. Plus having to learn mechanics that are drastically different than what I’m used to makes it harder. I don’t think they are bad mechanics and would love to see some of them implemented into a future Fire Emblem game (like different elevations), but I’m not in battle long enough to really get a good grasp of them.

    Divinity Original Sin's magic system with FF Tactics 3D grid based strategy RPG system is a match made in heaven. For anyone who likes tactics game this looks great. The story in this game is looking to be far deeper than anything FE has done since PoR or RD. I would hope that FE fans will get excited, but I think that most people don't play FE for the strategy mechanics these days. It's a more casual group that want a pulpy story that isn't deep and shallow characters to have fun with. I am happy that we are getting a story that is more serious and combat has more complex mechanics. The big thing for me is that I've played many "your choice matters" types of RPGs and very often it simply doesn't. I may eat crow on that one. We'll have to wait on the full release, but from what has been shown so far, your choices and words matter. I hope this influences other games going forward. The really big thing for me though is that you aren't simply making the decisions on your own. You have to discuss and work with your allies to make decisions. The plot doesn't find ways to make everyone agree. There are different people with different goals and that is such a refreshing take on a party based RPG. I'm optimistic about this one, but Octopath Traveler undershot my expectations, so I'm metering my expectations here. I hope the game is able to tie it all together and be something special. It has more promise than any game I've seen this year so far alongside SIFU.

      I think the fact that we could get forced down specific paths based on our decisions has a lot of potential, but I'll have to see if that's truly how it operates. At the moment, the only decision we've had to make has been easy to rig in our favor, but I'd like to be hopeful and say maybe these decisions will build up down the line, but we'll have to wait and see!

      @@Beny763 for my opinion the games fails to my for this reasons.
      1. All routs seems to be like a What if. Never got the real story.
      2. The battle mechanics I couldn't put a slow animation to appreciate more the movement of battle.
      3. After the 2nd playthrough u will be OP, not a challenge game event in the hardest difficult.
      4. A mute protagonist doesn't help this.
      That's my reason why for me it was a failure.
      That's why I prefer, awakening, conquest, sacred stones and the path of radiance and Shadow dragon.

      @@exyriusgp5046 The seasonpass could definitely be better, but the extra story is a nice challenge, the new characters are fun and the additional classes are great.
      Graphics are really bad, hopefully they improve in the next game. And the mechanics I really liked. I don´t need the school setting every time, but I enjoyed the passive learning of skills and weapon ranks, and battalions are a nice addition, although a bit underutilized outside of Maddening.

    I didn't pick it up because the demo was too easy even on hard mode.
    With Fire Emblem Three Houses, there was a challenge on high difficulty.
    Also, it seems the game is 30-50 hrs in length to complete.
    I had 400 hrs in Fire Emblem due to the 3 paths and the different variations in terms of different characters you add to your team and seeing their interactions with each other, which classes you choose for your students etc.
    That's why i'll most likely wait for a sale for this one.
    Looks fun though.

    This game has been consuming my time. I even put Elden Ring on hold to play through this as it'll be shorter. It's also the first time I brought my switch to work in years to play at lunch. I wake up in the middle of the night and play a battle or two.. I turn it off to do something else then 20mins later I'm back in.
    The demo is good, but it really really picks up. Every choice gets harder and harder to make. Each one is more of being between a rock and a hard place, and your options are which stones. I'm going to play it a second time right after I beat it. Then I'll probably put it down to get back to Elden Ring but next year, or whenever my next don't have anything to play I'll do another run or two.
    Every choice you make feels like,you've chosen the right path.. That means there's so much story, and battles you never see. But I've never felt the need to reload a save because I picked the bad option like I usually do in games with choices

    tbh the fact that the game (demo 2) has a lot more story is a positive for me. I played fe3h with my partner and he just hated watching me battle and slept through them most of the time , but he still really enjoyed the story and was overwhelmed at what games could do (his only other game experience was tetris and super mario). So when we played the triangle strategy demo together he suddenly was alot more involved since the choices do give you some instant feedback and there was just more of it for him to experience.

    I think the biggest differences between this and FE are less direct character development (characters are developed through the story and worldbuilding), less gameplay focus and more story heavy, and no direct shipping of characters. At least from the complaints I've seen online. I've seen quite a few people complaining about how little "gameplay" there was in the demo.
    Personally, I'm super excited for this! I honestly found 3H quite a slog to play through the 2nd time around and was completely burned out by my 3rd. I love that there's many path splits in this game which makes subsequent playthroughs much less boring. I also absolutely love the worldbuilding and story heavy sections lol. I felt way more invested in this world than any FE game I've played before (Awakening onwards).

      I agree FE3H to me was very fun but couldn’t do more than 2 play throughs I stopped playing midway through my blue lions play through. It was a real slog with the character supports, going around the school talking to characters to get a better understanding on a character’s pov on what was happening, lost items, and showering characters in gifts.

    But yeah i agree that so far there isnt enough 'Waifuness' for others, and I think people love playing with an avatar now so Im not surprised Triangle Strategy isnt as popular, but its a goddamn shame noone is spotlighting it as much (besides you and some others of course)

However I do hope that FE devs look at TS’s story format and how it is affected by the ‘under the hood’ player values system and are taking some notes. It sounds like really engrossing way to engage the player in the story.
