Code Geass still has one of the best endings for any anime
Yeah. The the show definitely has its up and downs but the last few episodes were so good that I'm willing to look past the flaws. Code Geass is one of my all time favorites.

Code Geass is ultimately a character driven story where the narrative fits along the characters and their motivations. Not every anime is like that and usually it's the narrative stringing the characters along so it's understandable that people don't get it.

Lelouch was willing to sacrifice everything and go down in history as a rotten villain just for the sake of giving his sister a better life. He lost parts of his innocence, his friends, his supporters, and his life, but at the end, he gained peace and reassurance from Suzaku that he would protect everything he cared for. Which is why when he heard Nunnally say she planned to have the world direct its hatred towards her, he thought they had similar plans.
Suzaku was someone who tried his hardest to keep his hands clean. Until eventually he embraced the darkness and even tossed his own name aside for a better future. In the end, though they were opposed for most of this anime, he and Lelouch's wishes became one
R3 is not a third season. It is the finale of 4 movie sequels - a triology that re-tells the whole story of R1& R2 + a new closure, after the end. It must be noted: it happens in a DIFFERENTE storyline, so it can be considered a parallel universe, if you prefer so.
Which means, the events in the series remain the same in the series world, and that ending can remain marked in history as one of the greatest (if not *the* greatest) anime endings of all time.
Having that said, I still suggest you to watch, even if on your own time, as it is still enjoyable.
It's definitely a fun ride, but it takes some getting used to in some parts. Namely the different VAs taking me a long ass time to get used to.

If the dub is genuinely good, watch the dub over sub. Gotta give credit and support to VAs that put in the effort.
@@-Miasimon since I'm not an english native speaker there would be no reason for me to watch the english dub.
When it comes to my language, I roll with what I get. If it happens that I see the dub first, I just go with dub (which is what happend when I first watched Naruto). Usually I just go with the sub because it takes time to dubs to come, but I always look it up later. I just don't see it as a mandatory thing, I appreciate the japaneae VA's as well, honestly, the level of professionalism in japanese is something on its own, in my opinion, something that exists nowhere in the world.

One of the rare "villain" that actually achieved the goal of conquering the world. Well he is more of the anti-hero himself and its all part of the plan.

Not only is Code Geass one of the best endings in anime it's one of the best endings in fiction. There is another movie that continues after the end of the series but it follows a different timeline the movie timeline which is a recap of the events of the show with minor differences like Shirley Never Dies. I consider this the best ending but the movie is pretty good if you want to watch it

Lelouch did terrible things, both by accident and by design. He experienced terrible luck, betrayal, and despair.
And yet, in the end, he accomplished everything that he set out to achieve, and more. With one last plan, one last deception, and the sacrifice of his life, Lelouch won, even as he lost.

Two of my favorite scenes are in this last episode. The one during the fight that you commented on, where we keep flashing from one conversation to the next, yet they all come together really fluidly like one argument... And the ending. Possibly my favorite ending of any anime.
This is a quote from the Code Geass Official Guide Book;
"For those two who bear the heavy sin known as killing their fathers, they share the belief that they can forgive each other by imposing the greatest punishments on themselves. Death for Lelouch who wishes for a tomorrow with his sister, life for Suzaku who wishes to atone for his sins through death. Lelouch did not change his plan after seeing what he had done. He planned Zero Requiem since after he defeated his father. Thats why he took over Britannia and go to war to take over the world.

I've always thought that when it comes to Eren someone who also gets compared to Lelouch and Light. But I don't agree about Lelouch, he made the best out the situation and came up with an almost flawless option. Sometimes sacrificing your king is the only way to win the game.

Lelouch accepted his responsibility till the very end! He knew what he was doing was wrong and he was prepared to give his life for his project of making the world a better place. I also think that after everything he went through, it was a relief to him. This anime is amazing and the ending is absolute perfection!
After COUNTLESS rewatches, I now realize that just like Euphy, people are happily cheering Zero when Lelouch dies too...
He's finally done it. Lelouch the Mad Magician pulled of the performance of a lifetime to fool the world one last time, and those who were able to see through the ruse and know the truth have sworn themselves to secrecy. Definitely up there as one of the best endings to an anime.
This ending brings things back full circle to the beginning, one of the last lines Lelouch says in episode 1 is again one of his last lines now “only those who should kill are those prepared to be killed”. It symbolises that he knew that for all the deaths he caused he had to die for them but if you have to die its better to be the focus point of the world hate so that you leave it better off in the end.
This is probably the best anime ending I have ever seen. And I am not talking about music. R2 was always a bit weird but the instant he sat on the throne as emperor, everything fell into place.

Yhea, Gigguk's review focuses allot on "plotholes" which exist in his head because he himself missed either the foreshadowing or the direct reference. @@detectivemarkseven. for example, he claims it's "out of nowhere" that Marianne is alive trough her geass power, but C.C talks to Marianne the entirety of S1 and even namedrops her, but! because he missed it, into the plothole list it goes.
This show DOES have plotholes, but I think it's funny that most of the popular ones are either directly called upon by the show itself or heavily foreshadowed.

Code Geass will forever be one of my favorite anime endings. It had its up and downs, Lelouch wasn’t a perfect person. But how it all came together in the end was amazing
Part of the plan was for the sake of Lelouch and Suzuka atoning as well, for suzuka to not get his wife to die and for Lelouch not to get to see a better tomorrow with his sister. Tragic despite all the actroicies that the two have committed they stuck to their ideas for a better world and we're ready to take responsibility.

There is another way sure but that will take years and we know people have short term memory, they'll fck themselves again given time.
What Lelouch did was to scare the world so much so that they would rather settle difference through diplomacy and dialogue than violence lest another Lelouch appears. He made himself the boogeyman so the world will place peace above all else and with urgency something you can't do by just giving empty talks.

Lelouch and Suzaku's fates were intertwined so incredibly tightly that they each got what the other wanted.
Suzaku, who wanted to die, was cursed to live as Zero, and Lelouch, who wanted to live with his sister, was punished by dying in her arms.
I spent £8 to see this 4 weeks early I am pleased with my purchase ☺️

The season 3 you guys are talking about is sequel series to the alternate time line movie that came out a few years ago. It’s not canon material.
And that’s why Code Geass ending are and will always be one of the best ending in any anime or story in any medium imo. The build up & the reveal, everything was amazing. Still one of the most impactful ending I’ve ever experienced till now

I'm really glad you all enjoyed Code Geass! I watched it as it was coming out almost 20yrs ago and it was/is a great story!
this ending was also meant for Nunnally to demonstrate how she's not as much of a good person as Lelouch sees her as, not evil just not as altruistic basically. While she said she wished for a kinder and gentler world and this is what Lelouch worked towards, her true wishes are much more selfish. As she says while he lay there dying, the only thing she really ever would've wanted was to stay with her brother and live their lives and nothing more.

This is my top anime for so many reasons. The story, characters, and themes are just amazing.
It means something whenafter so many years the Code Geas' Ending/Pulling a lelouch is still used to describe other anime endings. That's Legacy
That’s how it’s done Isayama
Two main points about the ending. Lelouch knew he would have to make difficult choices to win the war against Schneizel, even fighting with weapons of mass destruction and involving many innocent deaths. Even if he had won in a slightly more noble fashion or let someone else win, there would have been many who suffered and blamed those that won. This would lead to future conflict. By making himself the center of all hatred, the one who ruled unilaterally with absolute power, he took on a all that hatred and blame. Then being removed by the symbol of zero who fights for the common man, the resentment of much of the world could be let go of. It doesn't solve all of the problems, but gives the world a chance to start fresh without so much lingering resentment.
The other main point is about whether Lelouch actually died. Lelouch had taken on two Geass marks after being in the world of C. Charles had mentioned that once you gain two Geass marks you should be immortal. Now, Lelouch was able to use his powers to still kill charles (Or at least destroy the world he was living in which resulted in his death), but lelouch was simply stabbed. In that final scene with CC in the wagon, I think lelouch was there with her. CC was never able to fold a crane herself, yet one was sitting there next to her. Now, she could have finally learned to do it in remembrance of Lelouch, but I think they were all subtle hints that Lelouch was still alive.
Basically, he realised that the world had been through so much conflict and war that even as the UN was created, there was too great of a divide to reconcile. Remember that even the commoner Britannians were racist (with how everyone was discriminatory towards Suzaku until he became a knight). So he decided to make himself the enemy of every single person including his own countrymen (think about all those soldiers he made into slaves who would never contact their family again, and how he said he would spill so much blood that bloodstained Euphy would look like a joke in comparison). Afterwards by having the legendary Zero save the world he would make Zero into such a symbol that even the previously racist Britannians would see him as a hero and won’t dissent when the formerly colonists nations are elevated to full citizens and have to be treated with respect.
Even though there might be conflicts in the future, Zero has Schniezel who was almost just as good as Lelouch (he commanded Schniezal to obey Zero, not Lelouch). They also weren’t necessarily trying for eternal world peace, but to reset the board so that everyone could start anew and work together like how after WWII the modern world condemns wars strongly and tries to go for peace without armed conflict, and reviles Hitler.
This…this is someone who understood the anime and reason behind the zero requiem. Just saw this anime for like the 8th time a week ago and haven’t watched it since resurrection (movie) came out, but yes the reason this anime has such a beautiful and perfect ending is because there’s a reason for everything. Hopefully they rewatch later on by themselves and grasp the beauty of this anime cuz I can see how it would be difficult in a group environment while doing a vid

Lelouch answer to it is simple. Stain his hands with evil to destroy evil but also get rid of himself so that evil doesn't remain.
This is hands down one of the best endings in anime, if not the best and I'm saying this as someone who watched A LOT of anime. Doesn't matter how many times I watch this ending it still makes me cry, especially when Nunnally realizes what he did. I really like that Kallen also realized that it was Lelouch's plan at the end and I like to tell myself that all others that were close to Lelouch also got to know his plan after it happened and remember him as a hero and not a tyrant, which is very likely.
It's been a fun journey guys.
11:25 Really? Like what? Death is a punishment for Lelouch because of everything he has done. Every innocent life he has taken, whether accidentally or not, weighs upon him and the only payment he can give for all of them is his life and the promise of a better future. Killing him publicly also gives closure for all the evil deeds laid on his feet.
Remember, R1 Lelouch isn't really a good guy and a lot of people suffered and died because of it.

I love how this finale leaves just the perfect amount of information up for interpretation.
I find it funny that Lelouch Geas'd people to obey Zero instead of Lelouch so when he dies, Schizel and the others will obey the Zero persona rather than Lelouch.
Also, I was spoiled on the ending of this series but when I watched the show fully, I was still surprised on the plot twists.
Man, this ending gets me every time.
Also, I really enjoyed the follow up. I mean, it can make sense that the powers of Geass could alter life enough to bring about the impossible.

I would recommend "Farscape" next. it's not an anime but it's a really good sci-fi show that finds it's footing about half way thru season 1. There are 4 seasons and a 4hr movie/mini series to wrap it up.
Also "Pushing Daisies" is really good but it is only 2 seasons and was cancelled so not an ending. ...

My favorite anime and maybe for many more years
Sort of a biblical equivalence, Lelouch dying to take all the worlds hatred with him like how Jesus died for humanity to atone for their sins. The Cross of the Britannian symbol and him falling on top of it while dying as well. Harkens back to those times Lelouch referred to himself as messiah too.
If you think about it. Suzaku and Lelouch get what the other wanted. Lelouch wanted to be with nunally forever but he died, on the other hand Suzaku wanted to die to atone for the death of his father and the japan colonization but instead needed to be alive to protect what peace lelouch left.

The empire was abolished, but Britannia still exists as the Britannian Principality, which is basically just the north american continent, so still one of the largest nations, but peacefully participating in the UFN now. All the "areas" are now independent, and also members.
Nunally rules the principality now, which is probably a parlimentary/constitutional monarchy now. Suzaku serves her as Zero, but I'm pretty sure Nunally knows who is under that mask, and Schneizel of course is geassed to serve Zero, and is probably some kind of beurocrat or minister, a position where he is made useful, but kept in check and close at hand. Honestly, I believe he doesn't mind his fate too much.
More than a decade past. I still love the ending and still cry
I'm definitely happy with the end discussion and how interested The Normies are in doing a re-watch! That's where the movies come in, I really hope for "The Normie's Movie Night" for the Code Geass movies!
Also with the thought of having other groups watch Code Geass, I'd love for this group to watch Vinland Saga (I know Micky already watched it) especially since Farmland Saga (season 2) is coming out!

This episode and ending solidifies Code geass to be one of the top anime... and in contrast death note has no heart and fulfillment like code geass... death note is all empty thrills and twists.
And Lelouch is a superior character compared to Light.
Lelouch is a better version of Yagami Light, when it comes to an anti-hero kinda character.
Light has this God complex that he is the messiah and feels he is always right no matters what.
Lelouch knows and acknowledges that he is not a right always, but he feels that's the only was he can achieve his goals and
Lelouch is ready to risk his own life also or other's lives as well, for the cause.
And Lelouch has lot of depth, and believes in a ideology, with a proper set of beliefs guided by his own sense of justice and he stands by it, and he is self aware that he himself is gray and but is a necessary evil ... kinda thing.
Light feels he is superior and always has never considered to put his own life in line but didn't bat an eye to sacrifice anyone for any silly reason, at his whim as he considers everyone expendable except he himself.
Light is just a childish egoistic, egotistical manchild with a God complex with no moral compass and acts whimsically but calculated manner without any actua sense of justice. He feels he himself is justice and he doesn't have much depth. He is just bored and disgusted by the world and feels what his whim says is absolute justice.
Ofc both Light and Lelouch have this competitive mentality while looking at the circumstances at hand and get excited by the challenge at hand.
Ultimately, Lelouch was always aware of the sins he has committed and felt responsible for his actions and moved on carrying that burden. But he never revealed this to anyone openly and always put up a fake arrogant facade leaning into the misunderstanding...
He strongly repented for his sins and this last episode makes me teary everything I see it. The instance when Nunally, Kallen realized what Lelouch intended all along... was way too emotional.
And the Zero Requim has been hinted at for many times after Rolo saved Lelouch.. and when we realize what he meant by it when he and Suzaku mentioned Zero requim multiple times during which they trusted through face forward into all the violence they are committing in the last 2 episodes. .. and finally see it play out on the screen by Suzaku delivering the judgment to Lelouch...and the pure satisfaction, happiness on Lelouch's face when he realized he has finally fulfilled his final destiny and his wish to create a world Nunally desired...that was poetic!
And the music... continued story... is way too emo!!
Best ending ever and one of the best protagonists and one of the best anime... of all time arguably in entire fiction it is in the top level
This was Lelous plan all along
