    I love your videos. Nice and slow and clear. I had a lot of trouble getting the half hitch right and consistent. It's really a 2 part knot. The first part, the string goes under but for the second part, the string goes over. Once I figured that out, I had much better luck with it.

    Do you think I could add some beading to sections of this? This is my first time making something like this! I am so excited!

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You can add beads to the center of your square knots by threading the bead onto the two filler strings and bringing the working strings around the sides of the beads. You could also add them underneath the diagonal clove hitch lines. Anywhere you like! Have fun and let me know how it turns out!

    • @RachelColton

      Sure! You can basically use anything to which you can tie a larks head knot! Use your creativity and imagination. Sounds like you might come up with the next trend in Macramé!

  • @madisoncanales832
    @madisoncanales832 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love this! I think I’m going to adapt it to make the top longer before decreasing to make the knotted part larger. A suggestion for future tutorials/question: if I wanted to repeat the pattern (start with a straight line after the triangle comes to a point) is there a way to do that?

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Madison! Thank you for your comment and your question! I think making several full rows of alternating square knots before beginning the triangle will look great! There are a few options for creating a straight line underneath the point of the triangle. You can either make a row of square knots, a straight row of clove hitch knots meeting in the center or you can add a new string and make a row of clove hitch knots around the new string. I will post a tutorial next week where I explore all of these options. I have also seen macrame artists use painters tape to help them make straight lines. I hope that helps and I'll let you know when my next tutorial is up!

  • @mahiitistic7399

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mahii Tistic thank you for your feedback. Could you be more specific about what you found confusing so that I can improve my instruction for future videos?

    • @mahiitistic7399
      @mahiitistic7399 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RachelColton I am glad you didn't take it hard. For the square knot ( if iam sure wht ure showing me is what I saw on the other video) you explained as 2 loops and then pulling strands through them and that makes half knot. Where as if only a 4 is made and the the last strand is wrapped over the 4 s strand ,behind the 2 middle strand and through the loop would make a half knot. The 2 loops are actually confusing.

    after my diagonal hitch knot the two sides dont come together completely, what do i do?

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the two pieces you were knotting the others around to form the diagonal lines (these should be the middle two strands at this point). Use one of them to continue the diagonal line by knotting around it (as you had been doing) and use the other one to form the clove hitch knots around the first one. Does that make sense?

  • @juneking698
    @juneking698 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the tutorial you said to drop the two cords on both sides when doing the alternate square knots but your finished hanging does not look like you dropped any can you explain?

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      June King after the first complete row, you want to leave out two strings on each side for the next row. Then leave out four strings on each row for the next row. And so on until you have an inverted triangle. Does that make sense?

  • @melpinter5892
    @melpinter5892 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are really tricky to get the hang of. Try watching this video th-cam.com/video/5wgGSCIOXk0/w-d-xo.html and then maybe just practice the double clove hitch with a few pieces of rope before coming back to your project.

    • @RachelColton
      @RachelColton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
