    I love it... Groonan el Vagabundo somehow just rolls off the tongue! You could even combine it with some lines from Princess Bride "you keel my father, prepare to die!'

      It is fun to say, isn’t it! He’s from Bar-th-elona.

    I when I read the video as "Spanish Groo", I thought it meant the Spanish Mexican translation. Though it's still interesting to see them in comparison. Good vid.

      I’d love to get my hands on some copies of “Groo o Errante” and do some more comparisons! Glad you enjoyed the video! 😀

    I got these in the late 90s. Nobody knew what this was, I bought it because the 12 issues were really cheap. This was my first contact with Sergio and was love at first sight. Have been collecting everything Groo related since then. Marvel's Conan series was HUGE in Spain, so they changed the name to Groonan to attract those readers. It didn't work and after 12 issues they finished the series.

      Very interesting to hear that they changed the name to capitalize on Conan! No surprise that Groo didn’t attract Conan fans though. 😉 Thanks for sharing!

    These are awesome. I always loved the oversized trade paperback of death of groo the wanderer, so having a larger version of those comics is nice.
    Oh! Just in case you are collecting a bunch of Sergio stuff, at comic shops is a Masters of the Universe: Masterverse #1 where the variant cover C is done by the great Sergio Aragonés!

    Really cool to see some more region differences to Groo(absolutely loved the previous Polish Groo vid). I'm wondering if Tom might have given some extra notes to the Spanish team. I think I remember hearing him in an interview talking about how unsatisfied he was with the some pages of the first few issues. The colors in Groonan El Vagabundo are just so fantastic.

    • @GrooTube
      @GrooTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, I’ll have to keep a lookout for that interview. From what I could tell though the Spanish printing used the exact same colour separations as Marvel. But I understand how atom may have made suggestions like, “use a deeper ink for the Magenta plate” or something. Interesting! Thanks for sharing that!

      @@GrooTube strange that Mark and Sergio post a video about a new colorist day after your vid. Fun coincidence.

    • @GrooTube
      @GrooTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! I noticed that last week too! But I also know that they record all their videos in batches ahead of time, so the release was surely a coincidence! 😀

      @@GrooTube it makes me happy that they've been dropping videos the day after you. More Groo content. Though whenever I get the notification for Mark and Sergio I always think it's actually a Grootube upload.

    I got those twelve issues here in Argentina at a bookfair many many years ago. I do not know if they fell from a cargo ship from spain and came ashore or something but they are still pretty easy to come by at second-hand bookstores.
    I always found annoying the "Groonan" translation, but I guess they were trying to accomodate to spanish.
    You see, "Groo" would be pronounced like "Groh-oh", so "Groonan" would be like "Groh-oh-nan", much more closer to "Conan".

    • @GrooTube
      @GrooTube  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cool! I would have loved to have a Spanish Groo friend who could provide those kinds of insights. Let me know if I can ask you some Spanish language questions when I look at more of these comics.

    Spanish is my fifth language and I only know two languages. So I appreciate this trip to espagnol. And guys, if you don’t like Groo’s puns remember. You can’t spell Groonan without the word “groan”.

    • @GrooTube

      Ha! If that was true, I’m sure Conan would prefer to stay lost!

  • @reliabletoasters
    @reliabletoasters ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think Groonan should be pronounced like grow-naan, which sounds a lot more like Conan would be pronounced in spanish.

    • @reliabletoasters
      @reliabletoasters ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed they translated EeeeeK! into Iiiiii! (spanish i sounds like a long e) but left Floom! as is, which would be pronounced Flome! (long o).

    • @GrooTube
      @GrooTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I'm certainly not proficient... or anywhere close to able.. at Spanish pronunciation. 😀
      @leandromarcelomartinez802 Suggests that Groo might be pronounced "Grow-Oh." Perhaps that's the double O?
      I expect it was easier to change "Eeeeek!" into "Iiiiii!" than it would be to change "FLOOM!" into... whatever onomatopoeia that would be in Spanish. It's much more integrated into the drawing too, so maybe it would be inappropriate to change the drawing, but lettering is ok?

    • @reliabletoasters
      @reliabletoasters ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrooTube Yes, it should really be a double o sound, but I figured they were trying to split the difference between Groo and Conan. Maybe with Iiii because it's being spoken makes more sense to translate, whereas "made up sound effect" probably can stay as is.

    • @GrooTube
      @GrooTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably something like that. I was thinking that I should ask you to take a look at a few pages and compare the Spanish translation to the English. Maybe next time! 😀
