Thank you Joe, been waiting on more love for EG4 for a while and I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago if you remember. You're the first TH-camr with detailed info about the new Gridboss and Flexboss 21. One youtuber briefly went over it last week with a quick overview. Who would have thought it would be you coming out with all the details? Thanks for listening to your viewers. Now with the Gridboss and the Flexboss coming out. I'm going to forgo the original 2-EG4 18KPV Hybrid inverters and get the new stuff. Going to be cheaper to get it installed and more flexible features. I will hang the electric vehicle charger right off one of those smart ports instead of hanging it off of a sub panel. One thing that wasn't mentioned, the EG4 Hybrid Inverters and all of their current batteries are now certified EMP Hardened as of a couple of weeks ago. Not sure about the off-grid inverters. That includes all the ones that are currently selling so you don't have to buy new ones for that certification.
Wow, what an informative video! It's great to see EG4's innovative approach to solar and energy storage solutions. Thanks for keeping us updated on these exciting developments in the solar industry! 🌞🔋
I have 3 EG4 6000xp inverters running my whole 2 story house, work shop and ADU... Im going to be adding the 9k mimi split AC unit within the next few months...EG4 hasent let me down and I love how they are always improving.
I think that grid ties in the next few years will become less and less important. With the improvements in Battery storage, more and more people will be cutting the strings to the grid. I cut years ago, because of the problems with obtaining the grid for my rural home. It was definitely more expensive then. Now, it is closer and closer to being a wash and soon it will make more sense for people currently on the grid, to cut such ties. EG4 is a very competitive solution now, and it will only get better.
I really appreciate the laser-focused presentation and strong communication skills of the presenter; especially insisting on "K.W.H." pronunciation for the specification run-through as compared to the confusing-to-normies "kilowatt hours".
Welcome to the DIY market. Seen a few of your videos (all great coverage), but I do hope this helps educate more people in solar and what the utter scam is that most installer companies are with their insanely overinflated prices. Juts a little knowledge and time, home owners can build out systems at a fraction of the cost a traditional installer can. Maybe all they do is get help to do the install but purchase the equipment directly from Signature or other retailer.
Interesting set of assumptions in that statement. Where exactly are you seeing the solar installation companies ripping people off? If you want to get a permitted installation (which solar installers have to do) I'm seeing just about zero inflation in their costs. Lots of idiots look at panel, inverter, battery prices and think to themselves "Those thieves are ripping people off!!!" And meanwhile they neglect the permit package costs, solar racking, combiner box, disconnect switch, wiring, etc. If you want to DIY, that's awesome, but you're only really saving the cost of your own labor. Compare the number of hours you're going to spend on the install and what a certified electrician costs per hour and you're not saving anything.
Wow, the Gridboss looks amazing....almost like the next logical progression step for this. For a grid tie hybrid whole house system the options seem interesting with the Gridboss... You could do a single 12kpv and then another when funds allow. You could have a Flexboss or a 18kpv. I am guessing you can't parallel multiple 6000xp in this scenario?
The new set up with the flex boss would’ve solved so many issues that came up when sending up my system not so much issues in the sense that something went wrong, but it got expensive to run wires from where my electric panel is to where I want to put my batteries in my garageThis is so smart.
What really caught my eye is the ability to hybridize a full home, grid tied system. Get an installer for the main components, then do a HVAC to areas without the grid tie. Gorgeous!
This is exciting and actually makes me glad that I’ve not pulled the trigger yet on buying my battery back up system. The ability to have both AC coupled solar and generator is key.
GridBOSS is a great product introduction. Solar and batteries are the easy and cheap part of an installation now; integration with load centers, utilities, and AHJs is the hard part. Look forward to seeing more details soon. When’s the meter collar coming? :)
I have heard a bunch of great things on EG4, but hadn't spent a lot of time learning about their products. This is a really cool lineup. Good to see innovation & competition in the storage sector.
9:00 The POCO wants a fused disconnect with a handle that can be locked by them I wonder if they would go for what James is saying? Where are the CTs placed when using the Gridboss with a Flexboss, 18kpv, or 12kpv? I am guess as close to the meter as you can get them? Are are they in the Gridboss now?
Thanks, Joe. Going through the California phase of cost increase because of fires and SCE wanting the customer to pay for this project by increasing electricity, and no NEM1, and minimal NEM3. The way of doing so is upgrade your system by more solar and battery back up. Then put you on a PPA setup for 25 years. oh my! Like this presentation. Could be helpful. Bob
I purchased the grid boss because it will load shed dryer and stove allowing my 30amp generator to run my house. What are the pros and cons of adding either the 18kPV or the Power Pro. I’m only looking for features not cost.
Looks like I have some homework as I am a bit confused. They started with the EG4 Flexboss 21 & GridBoss + storage then ends with the new 1200 XP + storage. Which one am I supposed to use if I want to replace what I have now (solar and inverter) and expand to additional panels and storage in Ca. Especially if I want to do partial DIY and hire out electrical. They are right - the EG4 is very popular from what I've read so far.
[1] If you need to mount outdoors, go 18kPV/Flexboss/Gridboss. If you want to mount indoors, go 12000XP. [2] If you want to get a contract with PG&E and sell back to the grid, go with 18kPV/Flexboss/Gridboss. If you don't want to deal with the power company, go with 12000XP. [3] Either route can equally be done partial DIY. [4] Either route can equally use your existing solar panels directly as a string inverter -or- do "AC coupling" if your current panels use microinverters. [5] Either route provides a path for additional panels and storage. However, the new Flexboss/Gridboss approach provides the most flexibility
The Gridboss replaces your AC combiner/distribution panels from your inverters, as well as a inverter bypass so you can run on grid while doing inverter maintenance. If you never had multiple inverters or a bypass you don't need the Gridboss
Great video. I've not paid attention to products this past few years. Brought me up to speed. Got proof the 12000xp can start a 5 ton AC under load? I've seen products starting just compressors but not loaded.

Impressive. I’m in the process of building a box truck to assist natural disaster victims with Wi-Fi, charging for phones, laptops and satellite communications systems. EG4 sounds like the best options. But are the systems shielded? I’m planning on multiple repeaters for first responders and I really have to have clean power for the repeaters as well as ham radios. To keep the equipment cool I’m also looking at a split A/C unit.
Excellent video. Excellent channel. A question (dumb I’m sure): A series string feeding directly into the mini split, what would the rapid shutdown system requirements be? What are the options? Panel mounted? Capable of operating without AC power? As a hobby level RV guy, if you or someone else had an introduction/comparison of panel level protection systems, and maybe an idea of where codes will go in the future…
EPC in the solar industry means engineering, procurement, and construction. It is a term that is widely used by companies that provide end-to-end solar energy services, including designing the system, giving procurement details about the system, and installing it.
When will the 12000xp come out for sale. Am only holding from ordering 2 6000xp because of this video, and it seem to make more sense to get the 12xp instead of 2 6000xp
Did I understand correctly that at 19:00 in the video, the rep says homes with dual service panels can be served by one inverter through a parallel connection? My home has 2, 200-amp service panels. This would be great.
I have the 6k off grid inverter and a 5 k battery been going for a year now, I am looking at the one ton mini split. If i read it right it is even cheaper than than the Mr cool diy system.
Great job EG4. I’ve talked to 3 installers and they cannot figure out how to configure my whole house system. However they are all asking well over $100k. My issue is I have a meter with box 50 feet from my house and 150 feet from my barn. The power is split at the meter into a 200 amp panel into the house and a separate 200 amp panel to the barn. I still don’t exactly know what to install but this system seems to be a solution. Could someone give me knowledge if this is the best solution for me. I want to run a 24 KWA solar system with backup battery power for atleast a 24 hour period. I’m going to build onto house and current 200 amp panel is full. The addition would be on the far side of the house approximately 150 feet from the meter box. Thanks
"Attaching" the battery takes about 5 minutes. "Installing" the Power Pro takes hours. If securing it to the wall mount, it's comparable to craning a V8 engine into a car. Very heavy and delicate. Takes two people, and dropping it is not an option. I have three of them and it took an engine hoist to lift and move. And the wall mount they give you has to be aligned within about 1/8 of an inch.
@@JamesFriedeck I would never wall mount it that would be a waste of effort for the battery. You can if you want to but its largely pointless to mount it on to the wall, you could just secure it to the wall which is what I would do. That said a simple dolly and straps allows you to move the batteries around very easily.
UnpluggedTexan here on TH-cam filmed a close-up of the specs off the poster at this show. the camera moves fast at some points but you can pause the video to see most of the PRELIMINARY specs.
He didn't talk about them because he couldn't make money off them, and convincing people to DIY would take his profits even further away. I don't blame him for making his living, but a salesman's gotta make sales to make a living and there are plenty of other channels that will help you DIY.
Which inverter is the best option for me? I have a 4.1kw grid type solar system with micro-invertors and I want to add an additional separate 4kw array with a battery. I want to leave my old system alone and the new one will be "off grid" with the option of using the grid if I run out of power but not selling energy back to my utility.
I absolutely love that he tells you flat out that their target customer has been neglected by previous solar marketing. He wants the "red county USA small town rural and suburban" customer. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: If you want to sell solar to a Democrat, talk about saving the planet and reducing the carbon footprint. That's what most of them believe in. If you want to sell solar to a Republican, talk about energy independence and preparedness. That's what most of them believe in. Up until recently, the solar industry was a one trick pony. All they could do was try to sell hatred for fossil fuels.
I wonder why you did not cover EG4 products. I understand better now. I guess it is because it is more of the diy market and is now moving into installers. Thanks for covering their new products.
If EG4 is so great and cost competative why are all the solar sales guys pitching me power wall 3 or Enphase. Ive talked to 5 companies and I get the same product recommendation. Its almost like Tesla and Enphase are paying them.
cost competative... lol... good one Growatt SPF 6000ES PLUS off-grid inverter does the same for half the price and without american special parts in the rest of the world i need parts that cost the same as the inverter to install a eg4 inverter (same with enphase) and on top of that they cost double price installers want touch it where i live, so that part is not cheap either
Why? Commi$$ion. EG4 is thousands less than the 'brand' names every fly-by-night solar installer wants to sell you. Plus the other systems are proprietary - once you're in, you're in for life. EG4 is to Android as Tesla is to Apple - one is open/inexpensive/flexible, one is closed/expensive/limiting.
I just bought the EG4 18K, 3 EG4 Outdoor Batteries, and 20 540-650 Canadian Solar Panels for $19K out the door. Wish I could have waited for this, I have my install on Monday, but I am completely off grid and my current 25 year old battery died a month ago. Been running on a generator for a month now. Been a hard time for the wife but if it was up to me I would have waited for this. Can I pair the 18K with this system?
It depends on how many inverters you buy. 18kPV or Flexboss: at least 50 amps. 12000XP: at least 50 amps. 6000XP: 25 amps. (all of these should likely be at 80% for continuous usage over a couple hours)
Great products for the price point. Unfortunately Signature Solar and EG4 is willing to lie to their customers to ensure they make as much $$ as possible in my experience. I also regret telling my neighbors about this company as they had a similar experience. I'd suggest paying the extra buck to ensure you'll have great customer support and won't need tech support along the way.
Very few electronics are made in America anymore. For over 40 years, U.S. companies have outsourced manufacturing, chasing profits and moving expertise overseas. While the Biden administration is attempting to reverse this trend with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and CHIPS Act of 2022, it will still take years, if not decades, to see these products made in America again.

I have the 6k off grid inverter and a 5 k battery been going for a year now, I am looking at the one ton mini split. If i read it right it is even cheaper than than the Mr cool diy system.
Clark Kent knows his stuff.
Will the grid box work and be compatible with existing 18kpv installations?
Yes
Thanks
I like the offgrid 12000xp for retail $2500
NOT to be confused with the 12kpv hybrid $3500
Can't wait to see the specs on the 12000XP
thanks

I do question the $1000 labor in installing a battery???? That seems a bit insane no? But this shows how insane the markup is for installers.
As more electricians get trained up on batteries, they will likely return to the traditional hourly labor rate + cost of materials pricing model.
@@SolarSurge To be fair a battery is really no different than a solar panel, there really should not be much of a learning curve at all.
When can I get these flex boss and 12000xp
I think they said mid November.
Where do you get specs for the Boss lineup. Itis not on the website.
It's new and will drop in November
UnpluggedTexan here on TH-cam filmed a close-up of the specs off the poster at this show. the camera moves fast at some points but you can pause the video to see most of the PRELIMINARY specs.
He didn't talk about them because he couldn't make money off them, and convincing people to DIY would take his profits even further away. I don't blame him for making his living, but a salesman's gotta make sales to make a living and there are plenty of other channels that will help you DIY.
He didn’t talk about what? Their hardware is VERY DIY friendly.
Your video editor is worth what you pay and more. Really good production. Great content in this video.
Most manufacturers Advocated by Solar Surge is not on the market say Pointguard, Tesla etc. Be informed.
LETS GOOOOO!!!!!!!
No mention of when 12000xp is gonna launch. Nothing on the EG4 website.
For a 4kW off-grid expansion, the 6000XP inverter will work just fine and be the best value.
@@SolarSurge does the current 6000XP has the AC coupler that he was taking about?
That was the one I was waiting for (12000xp)
EG4 guy needs to do more videos! He has a very different perspective than you or Will or anyone else
This guy in the plaid jacket looks like he fell straight out of a 1979 Sears Catalog. And I mean that as a compliment.
Impressive
So the gridboss does grid tie?
Great video
Can the Flexboss21 be paralleled with the 18kpv
I absolutely love that he tells you flat out that their target customer has been neglected by previous solar marketing. He wants the "red county USA small town rural and suburban" customer. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: If you want to sell solar to a Democrat, talk about saving the planet and reducing the carbon footprint. That's what most of them believe in. If you want to sell solar to a Republican, talk about energy independence and preparedness. That's what most of them believe in. Up until recently, the solar industry was a one trick pony. All they could do was try to sell hatred for fossil fuels.
Any recommendations for installers in the ATX area?
Contact EG4 directly. They can recommend preferred installers
@@JohnTostanoski Did that. They couldn't help me.
Any release date in 12000 XP?
I thought he said will be released in November
I wonder why you did not cover EG4 products. I understand better now. I guess it is because it is more of the diy market and is now moving into installers. Thanks for covering their new products.
Your video editor is with what you pay and more. Really good production. Great content in this video.
Did LUX design the 12000xp, or did EG4 design it?
How do you become an installer for EG4?
You can reach out to them at signaturesolar.com to get equipment or sign up for training.
This changes my plans. Not much. But the 18k is gone and the grid boss is in.
The bypass alone will save me 1700
EG4 is on another level. Dollar for dollar. No better option for true robust partial and whole home backup and NEM economics
I just want that 12000xp spec sheet!
If EG4 is so great and cost competative why are all the solar sales guys pitching me power wall 3 or Enphase. Ive talked to 5 companies and I get the same product recommendation. Its almost like Tesla and Enphase are paying them.
Because the markup is higher on those, along with the margins.
cost competative... lol... good one
Growatt SPF 6000ES PLUS off-grid inverter does the same for half the price
and without american special parts in the rest of the world
i need parts that cost the same as the inverter to install a eg4 inverter (same with enphase)
and on top of that they cost double price
installers want touch it where i live, so that part is not cheap either
Why?
Many have a 6000XP. Will you be able to run the 12000XP with the 6000XP.
Good question
When will EG4 come out with a 'meter collar'? I would much rather go with EG4 than Tesla but without the meter collar it aint happening.
Did he say eg4 is for red states?
EG4 literally helping democratize everything!
Whats the output to an EV Charger?
On one of those four smart ports at 125, 80, 60, or 60 amps.
Damn, I literally just ordered the Eg4 12k... Now I'm wondering if I should stop it before it ships and wait for the 12000xp `:\
Your 12kpv will most likely have a longer warrenty.
Wow….sounds like a beast. Is this made in America?
Very few electronics are made in America anymore. For over 40 years, U.S. companies have outsourced manufacturing, chasing profits and moving expertise overseas. While the Biden administration is attempting to reverse this trend with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and CHIPS Act of 2022, it will still take years, if not decades, to see these products made in America again.
No. Its Chinese. The US missed the boat switching from an oil economy to electric economy.
Factory is already starting production, USA in early 2025
300+ more Texas jobs building the best stuff you can get for energy independence
@@jamesshowalter6362 I've gone off-grid with 2 6000XPs and 3 PowerPro batteries. Very satisfied with the products and support with a few exceptions. What is the factory going to produce? How can we support your "Made here" efforts?
Glad I watched this. Was about to go 18Kpv. Cringey he talks about 'serving red states' wearing that jacket. Has perfect greasy fast-talking car salesman look.
