  • When one thinks about the types of jobs the airline industry offers, the first ones that come to mind are Pilots or Flight Attendants.
    However, there are thousands of people working behind the scenes to make the air travel industry run. If you want to apply for a job at an airline, there are many exciting possibilities you might want to consider.
    During these Deep Dive videos Airways will showcase different interviews and information from industry insiders to learn more about their specific jobs and the ins and outs of commercial aviation. To begin the series we will start with a little-known but crucial job in the airline industry: Flight Dispatcher.
    Airways had the chance to interview the President of the Airline Dispatchers Federation (ADF), Catherine Jackson. She has worked as a flight dispatcher at Southwest Airlines (WN) for 15 years. Most of the following information presented is based on a series of questions given to Catherine Jackson during our interview. The answers make up the majority of our dive into the world of flight dispatch. Let's get started;

    Retired dispatcher here. Nice overview but it gave very little detail regarding what we actually do. Once I got hired as a dispatcher I loved it so much that I felt like at that point I quit working for a living. The airline was paying me to do my hobby. Being a dispatcher was a wonderful, wonderful experience.

      Compass Airlines. Regional that flew for Delta and American. Unfortunately it went out of business in April 2020 due to COVID, one week after I retired.

    Best job ever. I taught flying for 4 years.. I was not a military pilot and back then no way an airline would hire me. Then I became an Aircraft Dispatcher. Best job in the world. I jump seated (sat in the cockpit required by the FAA) I saw the world and was paid very well. Pilots see the world however they shlep thru airports, miss kids birthdays.

      Study the CARs, TC AIM and FTGU and then wrote the FD Ops and FD Met exams. You can also take a course if you want, but don’t need to. There’s a study guide on the Transport Canada website which will point you to which topics you need to know. It’s a lot of information to digest.

    • @MrMudslap
      @MrMudslap ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exact opposite. They do encourage you to stand up and move around a bit but the job requires you to be vigilant and both follow flights as they progress and set up flights before they are scheduled to take off
