If you compete in top-level athletics long enough, someone you can't handle inevitably emerges. Ma Long accomplished everything humanly possible in table tennis at the age of 34. Of course, he's still one of the best three paddlers in the world, but WCQ is the next-generation Chinese elite that's 12 years his junior. I think Ma Long is in incredible form considering his age and it'd be so great to see him retire after winning at Paris Olympics next year, even though it looks to be a long shot at this point.
I wonder if he will qualify for the olympics at this rate, or will LJQ take his place?

ML had to win the world championship in order to compete in olympic singles. Now they will go for FZD and WCQ for sure. It's such a pleasure to see WCQ play. This dynamic and light footness while still being so powerful is beautiful.
They cannot leave Ma at home during Olympics. Just can’t. He means too much for TT in China 🇨🇳

This is So Hard To Watch Being Such A Long Time Ma Long Fan... Sad To Say. I Think Ma Long Is Gonna Retire Very Soon.
Ma Long is one of the greatest tactician of all time, but I can't understand why he didn't choose to do different serves, shorter serves or more surprise long serve to prevent WCQ BH flick. It's clear that WCQ has a full read on Ma Long serve and could flick basically 90% of the time. Not slow spinny safe flicks, but speedy attacking flicks that put ML on the backseat and 70% lose the points.
If WCQ push and the game to short touch - you can see that ML win more points due to his more finessed touch and better in-the-table attacks.
Almost no long serves from ML today either ! It's common that if an opponent is eager to flick, a long serve can take them surprise lots of time. You see ML against good flickers like Lin Yun Ju, FZD - he did more long serves which caught them off guard ! It's like when he played WCQ he just has a mental block or something, so so weird.
Ma Long is a legend in the table tennis realm , this is the peak duel between the players of two generations . I feel that Ma Long his mental fighting spirit has begun to loosen could be he is trying to path the way to bring up the next generation , In terms of strategy, he did not find way to take the countermeasure to against Wang Chuqin's backhand flick as you said . If he can boost more his mental power I think the match will be more intense for sure . Salute and respect Ma Long
Watch Waldner playing lefties to see how it's done.Chinese are by tradition weaker against lefties.Even Liu Guoliang had some odd losses against lefties.
ur right about the flick of WCQ but Ma Long did try long serves and the first attack of WCQ is still strong if not stronger so its not like he could get an advantage there
its not so easy if ur oponent reads ur servers perfectly and can also attack them all perfectly as well while Ma Longs flicks were too slow and always countered hard as well

Опять Чунцину слил,отдал матч показательно, совсем не хотел играть,как и в Маккао,зачем надо было ехать?Чтобы блох в своей группе разогнать у них молодёжи достойной хватает,непонятные движения,а смотреть такой спектакль противно и позорно!
Согласен, самый здравый комментарий. Если есть такая установка на матч зачем вообще играть в турнире, Чукин и так бы прошел до финала.
