I grew up with jazwares but I love mainly because of how reasonable priced they are and they starting to make characters of merch we never had and it awesome. Jazwares still my favorite but jakks has great potential to be the next jazwares
God, seeing that wall of Toys R Us Jazwares figures gave me such a strong feeling of nostalgia! I wish I could go back! God, I remember when my Dad would take me to Toys R Us during the summer after a track meet and would let me pick out some Sonic and Pokemon toys. And then on our way to the checkout isle I would go through the comic books and grab all of the Archie Sonic comics they had! Those were the days...
The Jazwares figures increased in price over time. I recall it being the following range from start of release to end of their licensing life. 3 inch: $5-$8 Comic pack: $12-$16 3-packs: $15-$18 5 inch: $9-$13 10 inch: $15-$20
Huh interesting, I was worried I'd get some sort of stuff wrong on that section since it's so hard to find consistent prices for them, at least it doesn't alter the outcome thankfully lol
The one pet peeve I have is the 2.5 inch and the 4 inch playset compatibility. I wish Jakks would have stuck with just making a 3 inch figure line and do what jazwares did and just add the accessory with the 3 inch figure. I don't want to buy the same figure in different sizes.
well if you think about it them re releasing the figures is a good thing cuz it allows people who missed out on the release of the figure to be able to buy it for example...take super sonic hes ridiculously priced on the aftermarket say jakks re releases him and shadow now it would give people the chance to buy them so it isnt all bad
I haven’t taken the Jakks figures out of their boxes but from what I look at, I absolutely love them so much! My favorites of the series so far are Classic Sonic, Amy, and Silver. All in the four inch set. I do have some 2.5 fella and they’re cute too, such a fantastic price set too! Sonic and Tails with the tornado for only $20 is just one of few “Yes please!” Moments I only have a few more wish characters in Blaze, classic Amy, Sally, Tikal, and I guess whichever movie characters come in the future. As of now I have everyone I want. Good comparison here pal. Good humor and inserts as well.
As obvious as this was, it's still cool to confirm it. I never started collecting Sonic figures and plushies till Jakks strated making them. Mostly because I appreciate them doing so much Chao stuff. While I don't like that ugly gold Chao figure, the cheese and dark Chao plush are amazing.
counterpoint, all the 3" Jazwares have fully poseable arms (minus classic characters obviously) while Jaks has only RECENTLY started doing that.. mostly with Metal Sonic variants
Though what is the deciding factor between jazwares and Jakks is the Playsets and accuracy to the source material. For example, we got a whole Egg Mobile playset with bosses accurate from the games. Not only that whole playsets are based on zones that are clearly based on Sonic Mania. I just wish they were bigger like the papercraft dioramas that was custom-made. Or maybe one day we get an actual death egg playset.
Honestly for Jakks, I think they would superior if they also had elbow articulation as well. They are fine as it is but idk, feel like yeah Jakks is better because they actually have characters that Jazwares hasn't done (Thi ngl, Jazwares is special to me cause of Sonic Stop Motion Adventures)
10:46 Strangely enough, when i was about 8 I specifically remember seeing the Jazwares Sir Galahad figure (Black Knight Silver) in Walmart, by itself, not even on the toy isle, just on a weird cardboard rack that was filled with random items by the toy isle It confused the hell out of me because it had the "Toys r us" exclusive sticker yet it was there. I didnt buy it because my parents said no, but oh my god did i want that sucker so bad. And to this day i still dont understand why it was there
Jakks Pacific over Jazwares for six reasons. 1. They don’t take Super 7 years just to get one or two new characters out per series. Blaze anyone? 2. They don’t fall apart in your hands. 3. Better variety of figures and in the case of Team Dark, we’re not waiting as long just to complete our teams either. 4. As much as I dislike Jakks’ constant inclusion of Modern and Classic Sonic in every wave, at least they bothered to change them up even just a little compared to the constant repacks of Jazwares with the occasional new accessory just to make people buy them again. That’s as much I’ll give them that. 5. The quality control is more competent than the horror show that were the Jazwares where you’ll either get a stable figure or a figure with a broken leg out of the box. There’s no in between. 6. Scaling and proportions are a lot better with the Jakks figures where you don’t have a Tails standing as tall as Sonic or a Shadow that looks too lanky in the limbs.
I highly agree with you on the scaling. Jakks can be bad at times (*ahem* Amy) But at least it's not as bad as jazwares scaling. For example: Tails Blaze Vector Silver
@@jaleanawatson7154 Vector was scaled alright. I can handwave Blaze’s height as a result of her shoes and the fact she’s not seen standing next to the other characters often.
i mean they were the ones to make the “we have tomy classic sonic deluxe figure at home:” thing with weird inconsistencies (the smiling mouth is from sonic 1 while the others are from mania adventures???) and the fact that they don’t have elbow joints, and the weird figures for the movies with uhhh eyes

I think jazwares is kinda overrated. I mean the jazwares figures where priced well and had good articulation, but jakks pacific has made figures of characters who haven't had a figure for a while or are just getting their first figure.
I can’t decide I like them both Also I did not know that jakks has various sonic toys in stock in Walmart but the thing is that I have the WORST luck going to a Walmart finding at least one 4inch figure of any character for me to take home for my obess- i mean collection all I find is the 2.5 check out lanes and the team sonic racing diecast that I don’t know anyone cares about because the marketing for tsr was pretty dead
I personally love Jakks for giving us figures like Rouge and Mighty, but Jazwares will always be the winner to me. Not just because I grew up with those, but because they made a lot more figures based on games. Free Riders, Black Knight, All Stars Racing, Colors, and releasing the classic figures once Generations came out. Obviously Jakks is still fairly recent, and haven't had as much happen. fun little fact for 11:08 from a Canadian, we still have toys r us, like it's literally my go to store as a toy collector and I go there commonly, however... they don't really have much of Sonic. Of all the toys r us stores I've been to recently the most I can find is a small corner of isle filled with the same 2 giant classic plushes and one box of classic sonic craftables figures
My biggest problem with the jakks line is while it has great variety of characters and pretty accurate sculpts, every store I go to only every stocks the same set of figures (usually a bunch of 4 inch sonics, a 2.5 inch playset, the rc sonic riding a ring, and then those god forsaken strechy figures) I know I could just buy them online but that usually means paying double or triple the retail value just because Walmart doesn't have faithany characters outside the core 5 characters will sell 💀
I agree. There are rarely any figures except for the same couple of 4 inch sonics. Same thing with 2.5 inch line with the same common figures. I guess they're so popular that they're bought online before we even get them to retailers.
The jazwares figures always fell apart after playing with them as a kid. I can see the sentiment for collectors, but Jakks takes the cake on durability (albeit with limited articulation). I also really like how accurate the jakks figures look to the game models. Good video!
Oh yeah and jazwares metal sonic absolutely shits on jakks. So disappointed when I saw that the jakks figure didn't have metallic paint, hopefully they'll do a re-release one day.
And thankfully vectors mouth can close so he's not stuck with a traumatized face lol. I love jazwares but as Jakks grows I think the Jakks line will be the best line the series will get.
Love this video, but I have to make one add-on that I hope makes the score more 4-1: Inflation. Yes, even if we go from the Jazwares end of 2013 and Jakks' start of 2018, there's a significant bump of about 8%. To make it more clear/unfair, gonna go with 2009 price inflated to 2018 via US Inflation Calculator(a bump of 17% because longer timeframe plus changes in Chinese factory pricing, various financial crises, etc): - A single 2.5-3" figure Jazwares: $7.02 Jakks: $4.99 - A 2.5-3" figure PLUS accessory/Badnik (which was like...10-12 USD from memory. Jakks is hard to find, I think I've seen it for the price shown in store) Jazwares: $11.70 Jakks: $6.99 - 2.5 multipack sets/playsets Jazwares: $24.57 Jakks: $19.99 It goes on from there, but I highly disagree with the original point on price. Another thing to think about was 'relative cost/value'. At the time Jazwares had the license, Transformers, GI Joe 25th, Marvel, etc? All at or below $10(2009 money) for 4-6" figures, some with incredible parts counts, detail/paint, and accessories. Now? All those lines are pushing 20-25. Sonic toys today by that metric are so much better in value. I also love the move away from Badniks being cheap, mono-mold inclusions to being their own figures. Jazwares has, however, greatly improved over the years, so if they got the line back and put as much effort in as their Fortnite line? I'd be happy with that.
JESUS you put a lot into this comment lol. I totally get what ya mean though, the prices were just so much of a cluster since there so many variables, as you layed out amazingly lmao
@@Bulbasquirtle thank you, just was a memory that stuck with me from back then where I'd got to a store, see the line just dying on the vine because between the cost being on the high side AND the likelihood of a breakage, fans weren't picking it up. Personal, anecdotal experience though.
I collected a few Jazwares and I really enjoyed them for what they were, they definitely had issues though, QC and having plastic pin joints that small made things easy to break or be really loose. While the Jakks toys don't have as much articulation, they are a bit more polished with the paint and with less mold lines and more consistent paint. Thing is, I do think we will be getting 4 inch toys with elbow bends with new molds for the ones that dont have them, theyre just running the old molds to finish first. Rouge has elbows which surprised when i opened her yesterday.
In my opinion I think jakks pacific is better because I can find them in stores for a decent price compared to paying 60 dollars for a poorly painted shadow action figure
Toys R Us is till open in Canada, and there aren’t that many jakks pacific sonic toys, the only one I found there last time I went was a tails plush from the 30th anniversary.
While the Jakks line got me back into collecting Sonic figures, Jazwares got me into it in the first place. I still remember the first and last figures I bought from that line (being Werehog and Sir Lancelot)
The worst parts about jakks is the elbows, I wish they had articulated arms, posing is so difficult because of that, especially knuckles. you can hardly move his arms because of his head, and his hands are longer than his torso. Thats the only complaint I really have
Jakks, and I'll tell you why. Because almost all of my Jazwares figures broke not long after I bought them. You'd think it was just me, but no. I've seen tons of people's who have also broken. These new ones are sturdy and have just the right amount of articulation. :03
Ah yes, the debate of the century hehehe! 😆😉 If I got the cash to buy something, I would honestly buy both Jazwares and Jakks Pacific Sonic Figures, both so far have Sonic characters that range from common, rare, and to even obscure sonic figures.
Thanks to Jakks, I was finally able to afford a Metal Sonic figure, and I was pretty excited when they made silver Sonic as well. My biggest hope is that they release Sonic 3’s mecha sonic.
I know Jazwares has the TRU advantage, but the availability for characters (other than Sonic himself) was night and day between the two companies. Yes Walmart gets Jakks figures, but I have never seen a character there that wasn't Sonic or Tails. And it would take me weeks of stopping in Targets to find a character like Big or Amy. With Jazwares, I knew that TRU would have shelves of every character as soon as they released. Never had to hunt.
Jakks has characters like Omega and Infinite that I love, but Jaz I like more. They were more childhood, and the figures were super posable and just the right size.
Jazwares figures were too fragile imo even fresh out the box. While 10 year old me had those, 20 year old me knows how to take care of figures and only one figure has broken not long after taking it out the packaging. All the rest are considerably more sturdy and standing fine on my shelf. The sheer variety too, the moment they make Blaze, it will immediately make Jazwares obsolete if you ask me. Edit: Also just wanted to add, kids are so goddamn lucky nowadays. I, for the life of me, could never find Jazwares figures as a kid and had to resort to ebay. Now several stores are stocked up with these figures and they'd be so much easier to obtain for a kid. Not just Sonic, but FNAF fans, Minecraft fans and even Among Us fans. We are truly spoiled and I am envious games didn't have this kind of merch when I was growing up.
If Jakks puts out Tikal and E-102 [with Froggy accessory] 4" figures then I'll be more or less fulfilled. We'll finally have the complete Sonic Adventure 1 cast. Nack the Weasel/Fang the Sniper (getting some spotlight due to Sonic Superstars) and S3&K "Mecha Sonic" 4" figures would also really make me happy, and not impossible given they're releasing a metal Sonic 3.0 toy. Other than that, more 2.5" badniks. Biggest issue I have with Jakks is lack of availability for some figures in Canada. You basically *have* to use eBay scalpers or US 2nd hand sites, which gets expensive. But the figures themselves are fantastic. Hope they keep the Sonic license for several more years.
I think Jakks has the potential seeing as there bringing never before released figures to the table.

If I got the cash to buy something, I would honestly buy both Jazwares and Jakks Pacific Sonic Figures, both so far have Sonic characters that range from common, rare, and to even obscure sonic figures.
Ayo Grand Metropolis stage music around the 6:00 mark is just based. My jam right there.
Jakks is better imo because there is good articulation without the weird lines and joints
i live in canada on toys r us is still in business and they have a whole sonic section like jaswares did
Thanks to Jakks, I was finally able to afford a Metal Sonic figure, and I was pretty excited when they made silver Sonic as well. My biggest hope is that they release Sonic 3’s mecha sonic.
I lost it at comparing Tomy to the mitten 🤣
I know Jazwares has the TRU advantage, but the availability for characters (other than Sonic himself) was night and day between the two companies.
Yes Walmart gets Jakks figures, but I have never seen a character there that wasn't Sonic or Tails. And it would take me weeks of stopping in Targets to find a character like Big or Amy.
With Jazwares, I knew that TRU would have shelves of every character as soon as they released. Never had to hunt.
Jaz Sonic never being in walmart always pissed me off as a kid since after a certain point we never went back to toys r us
My art is in the video
I love how all good main line sonic figure Starts with a letter J
Resaurus
@@rankrodent2772 “good”
It’s simple Jakks……*video ends*
Here in Canada they do sell Jakks Pacific Sonic products at Toys-R-Us (because Toys-R-Us is still open in Canada)
Congrats on 10K ❤😎❤
Jakks has characters like Omega and Infinite that I love, but Jaz I like more. They were more childhood, and the figures were super posable and just the right size.
I remember having the jazwares figures of the Supers and Sonic
If jazwares implements elbow joints it’s over
I think that Jazwares has more articulated toys. But jakks has more color and more of a realistic touch if wanna call it that
Bulba you saved me, you made a video on my birthday 😁
🎉
Just subscribed very good break down
It sucks that toys r us is gone. Jakks is so hard to find today
Bro I always had a problem with my jazzwares vector. I had two and both time his legs just broke off
7:48 The Metallic Paint High-Dive!
You talk exactly like The Almighty Loli
Jakks looks more like the games models
You don’t know, but Toys “R” Us is still alive in different countries
i just got back from Walmart with a jakks tails Minifigure and saw this
Jakks is best. They have screen accurate figures. Jazzwares joints made the characters look muscular.
I still own all my Jazzwares figures. They’re still in good shape too!
Whats the song playing around the 3 minute mark
Imagine if you included rereleases for jakks there would have like 10000 figures
I don’t give a turd in the wind for these toys, but I will watch a 10 minute video about them for some reason.
