Fosse certainly left his footsteps on the sands of time! Here we are, 2018 and enjoying it like the first day!

SO good! I was a huge fan of MJ since I was 6 years old. I always see him in stuff like this, since Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly where some of his influences, he even tap danced at one point. I can see why he was so inspired. AMAZING.

I have to say that Fosse's choreography style looks simple and difficult at the same time. I mean, I couldn't do a pirouette. I'm not a dancer. Anyone can theoretically do a lot of Fosse's signature moves but at the same time you know it takes a lot of training and precision to make it look awesome.

As someone who has recently worked a lot,on it, it’s really simple mainly, but it just takes a lot,of,strength (and other things) to pull off the style and the stillness and isolations

@dancinman17 - Gary, although I didn't have a chance to see it, I understand that DANCIN' was a tremendous show. It was nominated for 7 TONY Awards and won two - including best choreography by Bob Fosse. It looks like the revival of the show is finally on for the Fall of 2011 - I can't wait!

Fred Astaire's original version in 'The Belle of New York' is the closest he came to a personal credo. IMO it is the greatest solo turn by a male dancer ever filmed, a celebration of pure control that soars into ecstasy.
This troupe is doing slow, stylized, easy movements: nice, quiet, stuff tailored to average skillsets. The patterns created are amusing and interesting, no more; the Rockettes can wow audiences better. And, as always, Fosse's little schticks often look less avant garde than a reversion to blackface times.

I was in the Broadway Company (I played the lead FRED ASTAIRE character also on the 1st National Tour to Los Angeles. Mr. Astaire came and saw the show--and said it was the best dancing he had ever seen in his life! My name is GARY FLANNERY and you can TAKE THAT TO THE BANK!!

  • @dancinman17

@theBestArts //Most of the Fosse show was brilliant--especially the ORIGINAL company-which did not perform in this video! Having been taught by FOSSE himself, I know what these numbers should be--and certain pieces are just not up to what BOB would have wanted! Blame whoever--but I hope the new production learns from these mistakes--though I know if they decide to do my "Bojangles" it will be another AWFUL version of what BOB considered his finest piece of DANCE THEATRE-but nobody asks me!!
