Morning Brian, You’re right, I’ll certainly remember that trip as I was shattered. It was such a long day but a fantastic day non the less. Take care matey and I hope you have a great week 🍺👋
Love it! You’re such a trooper! That very first image that you shared, was great! The images right after the helicopter photo were very nice too! Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Much as I love Maddie I do quite miss being under canvas ( was never brave enough to do a solo camp though) .Pants weather but you're still upbeat about the experience 👍 The Helicopter Image ....Love love love it 🤗
Hi Lynne, I’ve another one planned in a few weeks, I’ve certainly got the bug now. I’d really like to get back to snowdonia by the end of the year and carry on where I left off with Dave. Take care matey and hopefully our paths will cross in the lakes this year. 🍺👋
Great vid as always, buddy. Brought back memories of my Christmas Day trip to Blea Tarn and then up Side Pike. Unlike you, I stupidly came back down Side Pike using the rock face "path". Very sketchy to say the least. Something I won't be repeating! Christmas morning sunrise at Blea Tarn was epic, though
So there was a pathway there? I thought there was one on OS maps and I thought it was going to be steep like Coniston Old Man, but when I got close to the edge I thought “no way”. Blea Tarn on Christmas Day…….perfection right there. Take it easy bud and have a great week 🍺
Wow, I would have been super happy with those images from my tent, 👌. It's all a great learning experience and taking the positives away and knowing what/where to improve is a mark of a good trip in my book. A multi day wild camp is a big undertaking at hats (gloves, 🤭) off to you sir for planning to do it. Thanks for sharing Mate and take care, 👍📸
I'm not much of a camper and would have probably headed for the car and the closest motel when it started raining ... lol. Having said that I ho have a couple overnight hikes on my list of to dos. Thanks for the video and the pics. I particularly liked the "layered mountain" shot @ 11.06
Morning Mark, I hope you’re well Good quality camping gear is so expensive now but if you can get the balance between cost and weight right, you can get a really comfortable set up. Good luck with the overnight hikes bud and let me know how you get on 👍🍺
@@DarrenKnightPhoto Will have to wait till I find out whats wrong with the knee I hurt on my last hike video and fully recover but seeing I will at most be only doing a couple of these overnighters I might look into borrow/hire what I need.
Reminds me of my recent trip to the Dakotas. Except I have my car to fall back on. But man did it pour rain. Enjoyed watching and proving we are at nature's mercy.
Morning BP, I agree that camping or hiking in the rain is not pleasant but at least the wind wasn’t too strong. Thats when it’s really uncomfortable. It was a good test and I learnt a lot from that little trip and so I’ll be more prepared for the next one. Take care bud and I hope you had a great weekend ☀️🍺
Another thoroughly enjoyable video Darren you have a natural way of being able to bring us along with you and really experience what it’s like. Great photos to
Really entertaining video Darren, with some great photos as well. I wish you could send some of that rain my way, we are in the middle of a drought and could really use some serious rain. It still amazes me how different the mountains are where you are from where I live. You have open vistas all around you, while ours are mostly tree covered until you get to the top of the tree line then it opens up. I haven't done any wild camping in years but still miss it. These days most of my ventures are usually within 2 miles of my Jeep. One of the things you may want to consider taking with you on your next trip along with tea is a couple of packages of instant oatmeal. The are small, wight weight, easy to pack and just mix with a little water. They make for a quick easy light breakfast or snack especially when the weather turns nasty. Take care and thank you for sharing your adventures🤗
Hi Peter, Thanks for the comment and for the description of your terrain. Regarding weather, Here in the UK we’ve had an awful start to the year but it’s pretty hot now and so perhaps it’s the start of summer, but our summer May only last a few weeks 😉 I do use the oatmeal pots and bags. They’re so good and I’ll be taking them on my next hike. Take care and I hope you guys get some rain soon 🍺
Lovely shots even though the weather wasn’t the best, it’s great to join you on the fells especially when I’m now working so much now the lockdowns are over and thanks for doing the hard work for me.
Great video Darren. We'll worth a watch. Your sure putting yourself out there and I appreciate all you do. Great images even with the conditions, Look forward to more 👍
So I'm guessing we won't be seeing you on a forthcoming series of SAS Who Dares Wins then..... no fresh fluffy socks and camomile tea for the hard wild campers! Lovely to watch you up the mountains though mate 👍🍺
No wonder you were tired going the long way round didn't help. Added to which still up at 18.30 that is past your bedtime I am led to believe Daz......... Glad you had a great trip shame about the weather for photography. Hope to see more of your adventures soon. Stay safe.
Hi, great video. It would have been so easy to get down and frustrated, I know I would have, but you always come across so calm and positive. You are truly inspiring Darren. I could definitely see you on the BBC, 'Walking with Darren' I would watch it 😀😉👍. Take care. Steve.
Hi Darthnog, Thank you so much for the fantastic comment. I find I’m always happy and positive when I’m out in nature. It’s my natural medicine Have a great weekend bud and stay well ☀️🍺
Looks like you had a great time even though you say it was not the best conditions for photography, yet you still managed to capture some lovely atmospheric images, i like the image at 11:07 with the layers and orange warm tones and the search and rescue helicopter image at 10:53 was really nice. Im sure you had a great time despite the conditions and loosing a glove ! Something i have never done is a wild camp , maybe one day! Stay safe mate take care.

Morning Chris, I love that little 70-200, just like I loved my canon version. I sometimes miss my 100-400 but that’s a heavy heavy beast to carry up a fell. Thanks for watching mate and I hope you enjoyed the weekend 🍺☀️
Usual great watch Darren - not sure about Camomile Tea though mate - think maybe Red Bull or Irn-Bru might be more appropriate for the intrepid Dazzer !! 😂😉
I’d be up all night with either of those two John 😂😂 Mind you I was quite partial to some Irn-bru when I lived in Scotland. Take care bud and I hope you’re well 🍺👋
Great vlog Darren ,Think i will stick to Holme fen & dersingham bog for my day trips LOL . One thing if you dont mind me saying ,great photos spoile by that huge border .I think a max of 15 pixels around would be SO much better . Thanks for the vlog ,look forward to your next adventure .Stay safe.
Hi Roger, I’ll take your suggestion on board but all of my prints at home have a large boarder as that’s what I enjoy seeing. Everyone has their own style and preferences Enjoy Holme fen and the bog 🍺
One criticism I have of your videos is the gap between them is too great, would love to see them at least weekly. The images on this video are excellent as always, serious suggestion , invest in a couple of pairs of 'Sealskinz' socks, I did and they keep you feet dry in the wettest of conditions(like not realising there's a hole in your wellies).
Hi Dave, I have pair of Sealskin socks but chose the weather the Bridgedes as it was a long hike (over two videos) but I agree they’re fantastic socks. I used them a lot in snowdonia. I’d love to upload every week but unfortunately I really struggle with free time 😞 Take care mate and I hope you’re enjoying the weekend ☀️🍺
Wild camping always looks fun but I just can't bring myself to do it. Just to much of a wuss I suppose lol. The language that would have come from me with the glove incident...
😂😂 cheers Nev, It wasn’t too bad it was just a long day as it was my 2nd hike of the day, plus I’d driven for 5 hours to get there. Still worth it though 😉 Have a great week bud and I hope you’re well 👋🍺
Carrying a second pair of gloves is the way to madness, then its extra shoelaces, a spare pair of glasses etc etc. Just learn the lesson to account for everything before you leave a spot. After years of hiking/camping I still left my glasses on the top of the Menteith Hills last year as I was making a quick exit due to hundreds of wee black flies (not midges) that thought my sweaty body on a hot day summer's day would taste good. There is nothing, seriously nothing, better than wild camping. Best advice I can give is pitch your tent on low young heather if you can, extra insulation and lets ground water pass under the tent. I went with hot chocolate powder rather than tea and a packet of stoned prunes which you can dip in the hot chocolate powder as an instant sugar hit. There's no such thing as a condensation free tent any more than there are waterproof boots. Water/sweat either gets trapped inside and you get wet or it gets in and you get wet, waterproof the outer within an inch of its life and keep the inner as ventilated as possible. If I was buying camping stuff all again I'd buy a smaller hiking tent and a bigger/warmer man made fiber's sleeping bag. Nothing saps the energy more than lack of sleep because you're cold. I wouldn't bother with down coats unless you can guarantee no rain, as soon as they're wet they're a heavy miserable encumbrance. Suitable for arctic deserts not wet British weather. A very small sewing kit and some sturdy safety pins have saved several tents in the field over the years. Travel light, anything you can reduce the weight on do it, lighter compass, lighter boots, lighter torch, lighter tent pegs, without undermining the reliability of the kit - expensive kit does not make it reliable kit. Enjoy your longer expeditions :-) Oh, and go to the loo before you go to bed !
Morning Iain thanks for the tips but I’ll certainly be carrying a spare pair of gloves on my next trip, along with my down coat. Since my blood pressure scare, I really suffer with cold hands and feet and so I need to protect them. Plus the down coat weights zip, but from now on it will stay in my bag until I really need it. Have a great weekend matey 👍🍺
@@DarrenKnightPhoto . Did you get a B12 blood test? I'd highly advise it. I still get the cold, tingly extremities occasionally but nowhere near as much now. If it comes back okay its one less thing to worry about. Enjoy the hills but don't forget the wonderful flatlands :-)
