I was in Vietnam in C Co/2nd Bn/505th PIR, 3rd Bde, 82nd from March '68-May '69. Started in Hue/PhuBai area Bastogne,Veghel etc and moved with Brigade to TonSonNhut base, working area north of Saigon near Tay Ninh, the Parrots' Beak and Cambodian Border Happy to be alive
Airborne All The Way - I had the honor of serving our nation in the 82nd. Airborne Division. I was actually drafted, however, volunteered to go Airborne because my cousin was in the 101 Airborne and he impressed me. He served in Viet Nam. God bless our military. - I have a Ph.D., retired law enforcement, did overseas missionary work in some dangerous places - everywhere I go there is some 82nd. Airborne experience within me that makes me battle ready, enjoy each day I can while in appreciation serving my family, friends, nation, and especially my God. Today? Late in life I am a missions pastor in Mexico. Life has been a journey. Check your static line and jump out into life with vigor.
In 1983 the 82nd still had those green jungle fatigues in their warehouse. So they issued them to us in Grenada. I still have a set hanging in a closet somewhere.
My grandpa was in WW2 , and was in DDay Operation Market Garden , and wounded in Battle of The Bulge. He was a medic w capt.s rank. Saw alot of men kia both American , and German. My uncle was kia mid-3/68 , tail end of bloody TET, 10 days b-4 my 11th bday. He was in 1st Cav. Airmobile Central Highlands.
My Uncle was there too. He was a M60 Gunner on top of a building watching for snipers. Our local paper wrote an article about him and his brother who was there too.
My grandpa was in the 82nd told me that he had be doing guard duty when I look into it the 82nd was there for a fight my grandpa never talked about Vietnam only enough for me to know that he served enough for me and my dad I really think now he had really been in the thick of it in 1967 he left in 1969 he had a buddy go back and died there I guess it took forty years to learn his buddy died he always said to me left them rich men fight one of them wars boy and it won’t happen again I miss you grandpa Jerry I never judged you for taking another persons life.
Back in 1969, I was with B Co, 3rd/22nd/ 82nd Airborne, even though I was an ordinary 11B infantryman, not airborne. It did not matter to us. Using parachutes are not wise in swamp areas, when helicopters are available. However, the Airborne lifers whom were officers and NCO’s were not happy about it.
What an inglorious vision of minds for victory, salvation and traditions. Only to find out in reality it was all a Big Lie. Remember those who passed into eternity as their blood soaked into the mud of a god forsaken land we should have never gloriously tread. RIP🙏🕊️
