    Ingenuity at it's finest. To have had this hotter-than-a-$4-pistol illegal AF but brilliant piece of masterful craftsmanship stored in this engineer's home loft since 1992 only to be given to Dale Jr after he said he wanted it, is like having Smoky Yunick point a crooked finger at you, givin' you a sly wink, and lettin' you run wild through the Best Damn Garage in Daytona to take anything you want. Jr is definitely stepping between the raindrops.

    This was an incredible little segment. “Cheating” stories has been my favorite thing from these podcasts with guys from previous generations, so hearing one from someone who worked on this stuff behind the scenes was amazing. Hopefully we can see more of this in the future

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      "The stuff going on today" in NASCAR is boring as all hell...........not to mention the entire nascar cup scene is barely even a shell of it's former self. Sorry, but there will never be the excitement, wonder, intensity, and greatness in today's nascar like there used to be, end of story. I mean for crying out loud, they're all running a generic car set up BY nascar officials nowadays. Not to mention how most of today's punk ass cup car drivers couldn't handle a 500 mile race non-stop. No Sir, today, they get to take breaks a few times throughout each race.........so they can all have ice cream & snow cones.

    It would be super cool if Dale took an early 90s gen 4 car, put a decklid like this on it, steel shot in the roll bars, nitrous under the seat, and all the other cheated out stuff that his guest have told him. Then give it a cool ass Dirty Mo paint scheme and kinda have it taken around to different racing venues or a museum as somewhat of a history lesson for fans as to how Ingenuity used to be done.

    So I love this guy brought this by! This is one of the top guest in my opinion that’s ever walked in! You just can’t put a price on the cheated up parts. On my stock cars and even legend cars I used a lot of DTMF controlled devices with different radio controlled (by my spotter) he would send tones and open different vents up to change the low pressure region. Also I had 5 fins on the grill to open all of them. (Key radio: Press: 6) to open Individually. Key radio: press: 1-2-3-4-5 or if you only wanted 2 & 4 open which is what we ran 99% of the time. We would key radio: press: 2-4. Those were the good ole days. After the series put onboard cameras I knew I couldn’t be flipping switches so I had to have someone remotely run that stuff.

    I don't know if Dale Jr. would remember this or not, but he was running the 400-miler at Daytona one year; the night race. Jr. had about the strongest car, but at one point in the race, he is jus' ridin' 2nd behind Kyle Busch, making laps. I'm listening to his radio channel on my scanner and Jr. starts to chuckle. He then proceeds to describe--in detail--what he is seeing on the 18 car right ahead of him. The 18's entire decklid is lowering itself, as if being pressed down by the airflow over the car, or by actuators like the ones being described in this video, as the car proceeds down the backstretch, bringing the rear spoiler down out of the air. But, lo and behold, the decklid then raises itself back up, flush with the rear quarter-panels, as the car entered Turn 3. This happened lap after lap, with Jr. absolutely giddy seeing this !!! It must've gone on for about 10-15 laps, and then pitstops began, and that was the last I heard him talk about the decklid during that race. A precious moment that I will never forget !!!

      Haha! That’s funny. Basically DRS way before they started using it in F1.

    You should ask Dale Jr about the "rear end cooler fans" on the 5 and 88 cars on the 2009 speedway cars for JRM...I can remind him if he's forgotten...

    Very creative...if there is a will there is a way. They have taken all the fun out of nascar,and most other types of racing.
