I really appreciate that you actually test gear in the conditions they're made for. A lot of reviewers just get boards, test them in whatever crap snow is out there, and then make a conclusion. Anyways, I just bought a storm wolf so I am not in the market for another powder board for a bit but just wanted to say you're doing a great job.

I bought my first powder specific board this year, the Nidecker Beta 162. Before this I only ever had one board and as I've gotten older I wanted something that was less work in deep snow. The Beta did not disappoint. It's awesome in the steeps and in low angle pow it stayed on top. I know some people didn't like it but I highly recommend this board, especially for the price.
Rad board. I tried it but didn't get it in any pow. Nidecker has some sweet boards and good prices. I've owned two Mellows and ridden them a ton. Underrated for sure.

Thanks! I can tell you, the Flagship is almost as good as a pow board and way better once everything is tracked up. The only downside is it's not super turny or nimble. At least in the sizes I like to ride it.
Was going to say that you could set the hovercraft further back, but getting more float by sinking the tail more adds drag. Actually has me wondering now if low angle float could be improved by moving weight a tiny bit forwards on the hovercraft, or if it wouldn't be able to stay afloat at all like that. I take it the powgoda remains the best in tracked powder? I think the reason it can deal with it so well is that there's no distinction between the front kick and the early rise, the board from rear kick forward is a stretched out S.

I love jones and ride the stratos 164w as my all mtn (it floats well in its own right!) but i was considering a hovercraft 2.0 164 for this trip and a dedicated pow board goin fwd. You have me second guessing! any other boards for the big boys you think i should consider???
Jealous I think that hovercraft 2.0 would be great, it's awesome and if you like jones don't be afraid to do it. I like the Powgoda a little more myself but it might be a bit soft for your weight. 164 Korua Dart or 172 Pin Tonic would do really well at your weight, or lastly the Bataleon Cruiser plus in 164 from last year would be rad too. That Cruiser plus is super underrated in my opinion and it's 30% off now.

I’m very tempted to get the storm chaser 24 as it’s on sale, how would it hold up on long snake tracks back to the lift? Or should I just get the camber version 25?
I think it would be fine, but the more icy and nasty the tracks get the worse it will do. If you really want it to be okay on edge you might want to wait for the 25 version. But I can tell you, the current one is so good in the pow!
I don't. I try to test the boards as close to reference as possible, as I'm trying to eliminate variables and want to see how it feels the way it was "intended." In my personal riding, I will alter my stance location depending on conditions and the board I'm on. No kickbacks for me, gotta stay unbiased! My fondness for the Cardiff boards is legit.
Hmmm. Can't say it's unseated it but probably about the same. If the Surfer came in one size bigger, I'd probably still give the nod to the surfer by just a bit. The Powgoda feels maybe a touch more versatile.

For what it's worth I've had the Storm Chaser and Powgoda in every kind of condition but I'd never tried the Hovercraft in that super deep untouched snow so I put them in that order on purpose. And I'd still put the Powgoda and Storm Chaser ahead of the Hovercraft in the deepest pow. Thanks for watching!

Actually had it set all the way back. I’ve also ridden it in pretty deep snow not so set back. It’s fine but has limits if the snow is deep enough.

Storm Chaser and then Special Effects. The Nideckers are good boards but they don't measure up to the other two in pure pow.
