I'm implementing this with my teens. I was just going to go with them cooking, but I love the idea of having them shop within a budget too! We homeschool so this can also be part of life skills.
I think by this time we all know that Bella really wants a dog. She should get one; having a dog teaches so many important things. I vote for getting Bella a dog.

I think with this next time, you guys need to add budgeting but showing them where to look for the items they are looking for. Cause the girls looked for the chicken in the freezer and not by the meat section they spent a lot on the chicken they bought like a foot $8 a box when they could of gotten a bag of chicken break stripes for like $15. And I noticed Luke couldn’t find the spices fresh but didn’t know he could use dried spice as a replacement. So I think making sure they have a meal plan before the store and showing them how to budget and swap out ingredients when things are not available to stay in budget.

I love this! My husband is so Max though! I can cook a nice meal and he would go for Pb and J or PB and Honey sandwiches. The comforts of an old school meal! The trend did a great job! I'm curious to try the Buffalo Chicken Taco and of course The Pulled Brisket. Yummy! Please do more! Maybe have the younger kids try their turn with some help with the older teens. This would be fun with your little kids. Let the pick the meals take them check the cabinets to see what you have what you need then to the store to get what you need and to stay in budget. It would be great for them to learn to. And then to go home and help prep and cook. The could choose a fresh fruit or vegetable and meat, posta, rice what ever works

If you purchased in bulk could you cut down meal from $100 each one? In the uk we’ve got loads of pages on making food for 4-6 for £5 using bulk. May work for you. Also if you encouraged the young adults to not buy all pre-made, and teach them some cooking skills, they’d save lots and learn more.

I love the idea of you guys giving them a budget. I watch you guys shop and am amazed. I live by myself and can't afford to spend more than $50 a week on groceries. No fast food. I look at the drinks that they have. Starbucks and specialty drinks are definitely not in my budget. I grew up pretty much being able to buy what I wanted when my mom was alive.

That's amazing that your kids are learning how to shop for your big family I remember when I became a step mom at the age of 16 yrs old that I had to teach myself to cook and and shop for my family and then I had my first child at 18 yrs old so it was nice and a learning experience for me to do that and then for my very first dinner I made a big salad and home made lasagna and garlic bread and it turned out amazing I made two of them and the first lasagna didn't turn out good but it was eatable and the second one was the best I love watching your TH-cam videos crystal aka the crazy pieces love ya

I baked the same dessert that Hannah & Bella are gonna make I call them Diabetic Comas and it's a cookie base with an Oreo in the middle and topped with brownie mix. You can either bake them in muffin tins or as brownie bars, they are so yummy I actually have close friends who wants me to make them for them to try lol. Happy cooking kids
How about taco salad? A green salad with Tom. Lettuce and cheese then put fried hamburger in the salad after it cools....then.....put a bag of Fritos on top of salad and mix in. You can use salsa & sour cream as your dressing.
Shopping for meals is a great opportunity to learn life skills! It was fun to see how the teens progressed since last time. Next time they plan and shop for dinners, maybe you could challenge them to buy only fresh foods, no prepackaged meals. They'll be able to see how much cheaper that can be and how much better the food will taste. (They may not see how much healthier it is, but it will be!) Good for Savannah for challenging herself to make the pizza dough and choose a recipe even though she "might need Dad's help with the meat." Stretching herself will only give her more confidence. I hope you will show the dinners. I can't wait to see how they turn out. What a fun family project!

Video Idea for the next time you do the teen shopping. Make it a game. Each teen plans, buys, cooks and when all meals have been gone through take a BLIND vote for which is their favorite. Maybe it can be a way to teach about voting too. Lol I would say have a prize for the winner.
I was amazed, Luke idea about making a Lasagne dish was great, he found most ingredient,he could have asked a staff member in the shop to help find the Lasagne sheets for the laying. Hanna an Bella, another great idea, again couldnt find pre cooked chicken, but next time, could have brought fresh chicken breast, made their own coatings an cooked them in the oven at home , if they cooking for a family of 14 , why not all the get together an practise cooking a tradional roast dinner, think you only do this at thanks giving. Here in U.K we have roast dinners . I.e Roast chicken or beef or pork. With roast potatoes , an cooked fresh vegetables. Max dinner idea , so laid back ..
I vote no dog (just yet). Just because you want a dog doesn’t mean you’re ready for all a dog brings. I think she will be too busy to take good care of it at this time in her life with friends and sports and family trips…you already have dogs so she should try to be fully responsible for one of those dogs for a month before she gets a dog of her own. I don’t think she’s mature enough just yet(cue to her grabbing every box of Oreos at the grocery store) which isn’t a bad thing at all but if she thinks it’s ok to put her body on all the cookies and slam them into a cart when she knows she’s not really suppose to be buying that many then I don’t think she’s fully ready to be responsible for a whole dog for life just yet. She’s a teen and she should be silly and have a great time but a dog needs serious attention when they are a puppy or you’ll have a dog that poops all over your house because she didn’t have the time or patience or maturity to train it properly.
Ask mom and aunt Bonnie if they have some good old fashioned cook books. They can be really fun. To help the kids in finding recipes. Just a little help from this grandma

Hannah u can get chicken in a can like tuna & it saves time. I use it instead of boiling chicken for chicken rotel.. U can substitute a lot of things for a recipe. U just got to think. Mac & cheese recipe, I’d do it just regular lasagna. I have put spinach in my lasagna. It’s good. U kids did a good job shopping

My parents used to do that when we were younger. I loved it so much. Also my mom did the burrito thing with us all the time.

Hannah u can get chicken in a can like tuna & it saves time. I use it instead of boiling chicken for chicken rotel.. U can substitute a lot of things for a recipe. U just got to think. Mac & cheese recipe, I’d do it just regular lasagna. I have put spinach in my lasagna. It’s good. U kids did a good job shopping
They need to cook the food instead of frozen prepared food. Like fresh veggies, steamed carrots, green beans, squash casserole etc
