Nice work. However, I think your putting yourself in the wrong category. From the work I've seen, I think you're painting photorealism and surrealism, not hyperrealism. That is, it doesn't look hyperreal being all you can see is a closeup of the face. It doesn't look like an actual tiger in the room. Hyperreal is different than photorealism in that way. Hyperreal is more about creating an optical illusion than creating a beautiful painting with zoomed in tiny details.
That drawing of the tiger was incredible. I appreciate the valuable hints given on how to achieve the desired affect that I would want to portray. I'm certainly going to give it a go.
I am a beginner honestly, and i am moved by your level of overwhelm and ease, so i want to learn from you... How do you see a photo now.. What are you thinking... What did you father across say each species that you have drawn, materials you use... And their amending where they aren't available in the way you have used them.. Maybe in a lower cost way.... Share it all please... There is just a sea for me to learn
Absolutely stunning drawing! and everything you say it is so true. Thanks for sharing your talent and tips! How do you transfer the reference image to the large canvas?
What a great artist! Your drawings are amazing and inspirational. I am a beginner and need to know what type of eraser/pencil do you use to make white lines. Thank you!
Love your work. Getting back into charcoal myself. Question... How do you store the larger pieces? When you sell or display your do you framed them? Love to sell at events but not sure how to display them to sell. Thanks!! Your work is amazing!!!
Incredible work my friend!, just wondering which paper role you use for large scale charcoal pieces??, I’d love to try some bigger pieces myself, only really to A3 though lol😊
@@StudioWildlife Absolutely brilliant & very helpful video!, thank you so much 🙏 I look forward to trying a larger scale piece soon!. Just ordering the paper now 😊 keep up the great work sir, look forward to following your journey and future work!. Best wishes Mitch
I have to say there are so many TH-camrs that say ANYONE can learn to be an artist. Some people say they are « self taught « But it has always been my opinion that you’re either born with talent or you’re not. Skills are learned, instinct is not.
Here’s the link to the video I made going through all of the materials I use, the white is just the paper showing through. It’s an eraser to remove the charcoal th-cam.com/video/BFk1eH0LpIQ/w-d-xo.html&feature=shareb
It’s a bit of both, I am working from a reference photo but I use my experience to help make adjustments and change the fur texture away from the reference slightly. I don’t want it looking exactly the same as the photo
Fabriano artistico paper, There’s a link to a pad of the paper in the video description, I buy huge rolls of it though, and yeas you can combine charcoal with graphite but I haven’t personally done it but I know a lot of people out there that use both
No the paper isn’t strong enough and will buckle and tear. Watercolour paper works, or you can buy small rolls of gessoed canvas for relatively cheap too
I dont understand people who want a painting or drawing to look like a photo... Since cameras were invented, more artists started to create more unrealistic art because nobody needed a realistic painting if they could just take a picture. The point where people want to see details is not convincing me either... Art is supposed to be looked at from the distance...not through a magnifying glass 3cm from the canvas. I mean, Im impressed by skills if somebody can make a hyper realistic piece. It gives a lot of experience that is needed in other works. But I just dont understand why somebody would want just a tiger and pay a lot for the work, wait a lot of time to get it done etc. If they could print a picture in high quality
Who says art is supposed to be looked at from a distance? Art doesn't have rules, just because it's not particularly to your taste doesn't mean it doesn't have it's place.
What makes it special over a photograph which anybody could aquire, is the fact that it's not a photograph. It takes a tremendous amount of time and skill to pull this off in just the right way as to give it the appearance of realism. Then there's the bonus of telling people "no. Actually it's not a photograph" then you get the typical 🤯
Because it's an original artwork. It virtually never is the same as a photo, because (rightly or wrongly) people value art over photography. because case accuracy does not necessitate copying the photo. People do want realism actually more than not. You've only got to look at the number of people that want art works of pets they already have the photo for. This is art instruction as such you do need to get up close to learn.
Art is whatever you want it to be. Abstract, not completely done or even something super simple. Your statement of why draw it if you can take a picture of it… is like saying why buy a car when u can take an Uber. It’s the feeling of doing it yourself and making it your own.
If u dont understand then that is your own business. Art has no form. Realistic or unrealistic does it even matter? Is just you cant do it and jealous of other people success
Do you have any questions about drawing with charcoal? Let me know and I’ll try to answer them in my next video!

Sir please explain how did you draw texture. Did you created those texture yourself or follow the texture reference on the photo?
It’s a bit of both, I am working from a reference photo but I use my experience to help make adjustments and change the fur texture away from the reference slightly. I don’t want it looking exactly the same as the photo

Is it possible to paint wild life animals in A4 bond paper with acrylics? (can't afford to buy canvas)
