One of George's nicknames was the "Possum"... And yes, opossums are quite unruly... Just like "No Show Jones" when he was drinking... Also check out the two guys who were on stage with him... Mark Chesnutt, I recommend "Thank God For Believers" or "Let it Rain" and Tracy Lawrence, I recommend "Sticks and Stones" or "Alibis"... These, OFC, are just two songs from each of these phenomenal artists, and they each have many more to offer...
🔥🔥🔥🎼💙🎼🔥🔥🔥 .. so cool. Yeepp , Mr. George Jones has had the nickname " the opossum " for many years. He proudly calls himself the opossum... he is such a great performer .. love this one !! 💙💙💙💙💙 Country Music !
Neon in his veins - from the lights of the clubs he’s playing in. Keep rollin’ with ‘Ol George lady, he’s the undisputed greatest in my opinion. Good vids!!
I enjoy your reactions all the time! I hadn't realized all of the George Jones you had done! My grandfather was born in 42' and' passed in 19'. George was his favorite singer. Dressed just like George a plaid button up, blue jeans, the side burns and a wrist watch everyday. My grandpa gave me the nickname. I am 34 and have been called possum by my whole family for about 32 of those years. Lol. Not til i was about 7 or 8 did I make the connection, and I have loved george ever since, had the honor to see him live in 03. Glad to see someone else, a lady especially of our age enjoy, and appreciate the raw and real. Keep it up! Great content!
You need to watch the full version he did in the studio, a lot of the hot younger stars showed up to sing one line. Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Mark Chestnut, Tracy Lawrence, Joe Diffie, Garth Brooks, etc.
You need to hear Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes. Also Mark Chestnutt with Too Cold At Home and ‼️anything‼️ Tracy Lawrence! ♥️♥️♥️ Yes and it’s ‘neon’ in his veins, as in honky tonk neon. R.I.P. Possum.
The week George Jones passed I went to karaoke reminded everyone that he passed by doing "who's gonna fill their shoes", then every guy and 1 woman did George Jones songs for the rest of the round. There were 3 women that did not do any of his songs.
George jones better know as " the possum " is the greatest country singer of all time , it was truly a sad sad day when he passed 😢, and yes your right no one and I mean no one does thst deep voice like him , he is and always will be my favorite singer of all time
George Jones did this song in response to being removed as a duet partner with Dolly Parton for her song "Rockin' Years'. They went with the much younger Ricky Van Shelton. Jones was pissed because he was waiting on the call to start recording it. So this song was his response. At least that was the news back when it came out. I personally love both songs and felt bad for George Jones. I saw an interview with Dolly and she stated that her record company told her George Jones turned it down (which he denied doing) so she went with Ricky instead. She said it was a miscommunication. I think it was the record label's doing. I can't imagine Dolly asking him to duet with her then cutting him out and using someone else. She has too much class for that.
"Neon in my veins..." is a beloved country music reference to the night life and good ol' honky tonk saloons! Another example just off the top of my head is a line from a Merle Haggard song, Swingin' Doors: "My new home has a flashin' neon sign." It's a about a guy who gave up his home to his now-ex-wife in a divorce. So he spends all his nights in a honky tonk with swingin' doors and a flashing neon sign." If you're not hip to the "swingin' doors" reference, just think back to scenes of the town saloon in cowboy movies when the hero pushes the swinging doors apart as he steps into the saloon and a hush falls over the crowd because they know he's there to do "business" with a bad guy. LOL
Yes, l agree with last comment. You love George, you will definitely love Conway Twitty. Conway sang to us Ladies & has the sexiest voice in Country Music along with Marty Robbins. Like George, Conway has a long list of hits. My favorite Conway song is "You've never been this far before". But any Conway song is great. If you do the live version of "Hello Darlin' " the audience response will drown out him saying, Hello Darlin'. I'm pretty sure that clip is taken from a show called "Hee Haw". There are many clips from that show of singers performing on yt. Other songs people will ask for is; "lt's only make believe" "I'd still love to lay you down" "That's my job" "Tight fittin' Jeans" And many, many more. Also ask you to listen to the duets he made with Loretta Lynn. 1st song should be " Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn & Marty Robbins ARE COUNTRY ROYALTY & LEGENDS. It would & will take you forever to listen to all their songs. And l only mentioned 5 artist. So many other greats. Have fun traveling down the road into Country Music. RIP to the 5 l mentioned. I miss them all so much & they can never be replaced!
Country music was king in the 90’s. Best time in country music ever in my opinion! I have a memory that still stands out to this day to me. I was walking Thru West Towne Mall in Knoxville, shopping a little, seeing the sights…lol Don’t remember the year, but this song started playing over the speakers thru the mall..I don’t know why, but it stood out to me then and the memory still does, the mall was packed as usual and I’d bet a paycheck that 95% of the folks were singing along and be-bopping in their own way. Not caring, just enjoying this song….Kids to old folks, all were singing along without a care in the world…That wouldn’t happen today with the crap they call country! This video was made in 1993, Knoxville, Tn. At the Civic Coliseum. I was there, not long out of the Army! Great, great concert! Best country one I’ve seen…The whole concert was taped! My mammaw got to go see it as well before she died. She loved her some George Jones! East Tennessean here born and raised! George and Tammy first met in Knoxville and sang together. George’s last concert before he died was in Knoxville! He said Knoxville had a special place in his heart! RIP possum!!
The Ole Possum ... Britt, you've absolutely got to check him out as a young man when he was first becoming a star. In all of these he is much much older. Check out the black-and-white video of White Lightning, an early hit of his.
He was and still is an Icon, He's the Original OG,He was so loved by his Country Music Family and Fan's that when he passed away they Televised his Memorial Service on TV it was 2 hours or longer I can't remember, I've 2 brain surgeries sorry, but anyway, you heard him mention opossum, well that was the name they called him,He'll definitely be missed, R.I.P. Opossum, Thank you sweetheart for your reaction and I hope you have a blessed day 🙏 sending you love from Lafayette Georgia 🙏 🍑
This was a revenge song. He was in talks with Reba's people about doing ROCKING YEARS with her, But after it came out with another male singer, he hit back with this.
This was co written by Billy Yates for George, Billy also wrote George's song "Choices". Since George's passing Billy has come into his own as a performer. I recommend "MFC Momma's Fried Chicken" or if you like something more serious "Flowers" is a good choice.
In 1999, the CMA Awards invited George Jones to play his new song he had just put out, "Choices", but then, they came back and asked him to cut his act and just play a snipet of the song. so George just decided that wasn't worth his time... When Alan Jackson heard about this, He was upset about it too... He was playing his latest hit at the time, "Pop a Top" (The whole version) when he suddenly stopped the song, and sang part of George's song, "Choices" instead... This angered the powers that be at the CMAs, but Alan got a standing ovation from the crowd... Including all the other country stars who understood exactly what was going on... George was genuinely touched. Here is a link of the incident, at the 1999 CMA Awards Show... th-cam.com/video/tJVp6FM0aH0/w-d-xo.html
Those 2 boys are Mark Chesnut and Tracy Lawrence both from Beaumont Texas and had several country music hits of their own, where George was a Radio DJ before his singing career took off. He was a huge influence in the area long after his DJ days.
The man playing bass on George’s right is Ron gattis he does a crazy good George jones impression. I had the pleasure of playing a couple small shows with Ron hes great.
This is so great and so much fun! :) And... George never needed a rockin' chair. Stood on stage till the end, wasn't even abel to finish his farewell-tour. :( The guys who helped him out at the end of the song are Mrk Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence. Great singers too! :)
George’s nickname was Possum. Mostly because he looks like a possum in the face. He was the first music I remember, I was 2 years at most. The song was “He stopped loving her today “. Miss you Possum.
If you want to see the love and country music the performer Vince Gill George Jones took under his wing when Vince Gill was a young man George taught him and showed him what he needs he was Vince Gill's mentor you need to watch George Jones funeral Vince Gill Go Rest High On That Mountain you will see the love and respect that Vince Gill had for George Jones rest in peace possum
For an amazing duet I suggest Clint Black and his wife Lisa Hartman Black doing his song "When I Said I Do" My husband and I play this every anniversary
This man is known by many names 1 being The possum because he had almost drank himself to death several times, also known as NO SHOW JONES , because of drinking too much to make it to the show. Still one of the legends of country music . An Eskimo needs a Frigidaire , like I need your rockin’ chair. Love it ❤❤❤
There are two songs that George did please react to them Who's gonna fill their shoes and Choices. You should watch or maybe react to the official video to this one hint there is another George in it its hallarious
I got to know George over the years and I was devastated when he passed. He was a wild one but he was also humble and down to the earth and never forgot where he came from. Loving your channel so far. Maybe look up a duet he did with Alan Jackson way back. The name of the song is a good year for the roses. It is a remake of a song that George had a hit with back in the late 60's I believe.
Great reaction to a great song and artist. The line about the possum in a cage is because one of his nicknames is "the possum", and the line about the new corvette is because he's got a song "The Corvette Song".
Both of his guests had very good country careers and are still performing. George's nickname was the Possum. He also was known as no show Jones in his younger days for his habit of blowing off shows because he was in a bar. For a good laugh and more of George's vocal gymnastics, find a version of him singing White Lightnin'. Also Britt, I have someone new for you. Her name is Gretchen Wilson and I am leaving a link to her music video of Red Neck Woman. Great song. Enjoy!! th-cam.com/video/82dDnv9zeLs/w-d-xo.html
An alcoholic, an addict to drugs - a guy that lived a hard life....he was rescued from living in his car in an alley in Nashville. One of his nicknames was "No Show Jones" cause he was often too drunk to make it to his own concerts! All of that and he still aged that well, is generally considered the best country singer of all time and someone Frank Sinatra said had the best American voice of anyone - who knows?
George Jones' nickname was the Possum. Because his facial features kinda looked like a Possum, with his small eyes close together. Especially with his buzzcut.
He's saying he has neon in his veins everyone knows George, did a little drinking in his day's, hey Britt, try listening to George Jones, singing "SOMEDAY MY DAY WILL COME" LIVE GOOD SONG, THANKS
A family friend, years and years ago, was working security at an event in Louisville KY. She saw someone cutting donuts in the parking lot and called the cops. Turned out it was George cutting up before a concert. He didn't make it to said concert, lol.
Number one The 2 singers that came on stage was Tracy Lawrence and mark chestnut.. Number two, possum was his nickname. And the biggest one was, oh God. It must have been easy 20 years ago. Now. A new country singer was being interviewed after a decent start in country music. And he said the old country. Guys, that are still out here touring. And all that need to just retire and leave it to us, younger people. They can retire, said at home, sitting on the front porch in a rock and chair, and just enjoy life. That is where this song came from.... PS oh yeah, by the way, I can't remember his name. Country music blast at him. He still had concerts but nobody will show up country Fans Wouldn't buy music radio stations finally quit playing It. And nobody go to Sam. He was more or less checked His ass out of country music
One of George's nicknames was the "Possum"... And yes, opossums are quite unruly... Just like "No Show Jones" when he was drinking...

Not trying to correct you but he got the nickname possum for his close set eyes and turned up nose.
They called him Opossum back then because like an opossum plays dead, he would play sick, really drunk, hence the name also " No Show Jones".

So good to see George being appreciated. He had it all.
Yes! Yes! Yes! 🔥 🔥 🔥 this is a great reaction!
George Jones' vocal range (from low bass to a phenomenal tenor) was unbelievable.
I watch a LOT of reactions, but yours are by FAR the BEST!
You need to watch the full version he did in the studio, a lot of the hot younger stars showed up to sing one line. Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Mark Chestnut, Tracy Lawrence, Joe Diffie, Garth Brooks, etc.
Miss Mark, Tracy and Joe (RIP) on the music charts 😢
I love the George journey.
Must Journeys!
Waylon Jennings

I'm 35 years old and he is my favorite country singer of all time I wish I would have got the chance to meet him
You need to hear Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes. Also Mark Chestnutt with Too Cold At Home and ‼️anything‼️ Tracy Lawrence! ♥️♥️♥️
Yes and it’s ‘neon’ in his veins, as in honky tonk neon. R.I.P. Possum.
The week George Jones passed I went to karaoke reminded everyone that he passed by doing "who's gonna fill their shoes", then every guy and 1 woman did George Jones songs for the rest of the round. There were 3 women that did not do any of his songs.
Tracey Lawrence was one of the guys singing along & speaking of rocking chairs, you would love his song, "If the World Had a Front Porch".
George jones better know as " the possum " is the greatest country singer of all time , it was truly a sad sad day when he passed 😢, and yes your right no one and I mean no one does thst deep voice like him , he is and always will be my favorite singer of all time
loved it!!!!
That was my favorite thing about him too, but didn’t realize it until you said it 👊🏽
Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence are singing with George at the end. Mark Chesnutt has a good hit to react to "Too Cold at Home"
One of my favorite George songs is called "The King Is Gone" such a clever song
my favorite singer!
Love George. R.I.P

They released the "Rocking Years" version as a Dolly/George-duet on George's "Burn your playhouse down"-album in 2008.
I love Rocking Chair with Dolly and Ricky Van Shelton. He has such a smooth voice. Would make a good funeral song. Maybe mine.
Britt-you “get” George Jones!
React to Choices!! You will LOVE it!! So proud to say I was able to see George in concert before he passed!
Love you! Yes. He’s one of a kind

Miss Britt, you will never grow old. Just keep listening to George Jones.
That growling he does is what makes him legend.
George was to do a show at The Grand Ole Opry. When he came out there was a Rocking Chair. Then he wrote this song!

My friend Billy Yates wrote that song and “Choices”! Check out Billy Yates “Flowers”
A little neon in my veins, party life neon lights.
When commented on that one guys voice saying (OH his voice) That’s Mark Chestnut! He has lots of great songs!
Mark chestnut and Tracy Lawrence are the 2 guys singing background both 90s country legends
The two younger guys are Mark Chestnut & Tracy Lawrence Both stars in their own rite
They call him no show Jones. Lol 😆 great song
I was at that concert. It was wonderful.

Should also include the video of Alan Jackson on that talk show on TNT the next night talking about it, and George Jones calling in.
I was there at the concert when this was filmed it was the first time he sang it in public it was in Calhoun Georgia
That was Mark Chestnut an Tracy Lawrence. Both epic 90s neo tradition country stars
Always awesome!
That reference to a possum has a lot of meaning here. In years gone by he was known as "The Possum." For reasons I shouldn't say out loud, lol.
Mark Chustnut - Too Cold at Home (Mark was discovered and mentored by George)
Tracy Lawrence - If the World Has a Front Porch
Those 2 boys are Mark Chesnut and Tracy Lawrence both from Beaumont Texas and had several country music hits of their own, where George was a Radio DJ before his singing career took off. He was a huge influence in the area long after his DJ days.
One song I don't see too many people reacting to is George Jones radio lover it is a tragic love song that I think you will enjoy the story
Merle Haggard and George are close friends and Merle has a legend deep voice the same way George uses his.
George Jones' nickname was the opossum.
I still got neon in my veins, referring to neon lights. Great reaction
The man playing bass on George’s right is Ron gattis he does a crazy good George jones impression. I had the pleasure of playing a couple small shows with Ron hes great.
This is so great and so much fun! :)
And... George never needed a rockin' chair. Stood on stage till the end, wasn't even abel to finish his farewell-tour. :(
The guys who helped him out at the end of the song are Mrk Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence. Great singers too! :)
Thank you for playing a song I requested, I knew you'd like it!
Thanks for the idea!
Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawerence are the other two George Jones was Nicknamed the "Possum" by a Disc Jockey in Nashville's WSM Ralph Emory
Geogre😢 was the best of 😢 best period😢
You should definitely do Tracey Lawrence and Mark Chesnut reactions. They were big in the 90s and had great songs that you would enjoy
Two of my favorites, for sure! "Today's Lonely Fool" by Tracy and "Too Cold At Home" by Mark are good places to start.
@@chrisdutton2975 most definitely. And go from there
Britt would probably get a kick out of "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" by Mark Chesnut. Definitely an entertaining story!
Hi Britt love your facial expressions makes me smile
The neon in his veins refers to the Neon on & in the bar!!

You are good people 😊
This man is known by many names 1 being The possum because he had almost drank himself to death several times, also known as NO SHOW JONES , because of drinking too much to make it to the show.
Still one of the legends of country music .
An Eskimo needs a Frigidaire , like I need your rockin’ chair. Love it ❤❤❤
Lovely person doing this. Video!❤️
There are two songs that George did please react to them Who's gonna fill their shoes and Choices. You should watch or maybe react to the official video to this one hint there is another George in it its hallarious
Another George?!? 🤔😳 adding them to the list! Thanks, Mark!!
You didn't mess with George Jones
When he says. "Cant keep this possum in a cage" Its becasue his nickname for years was " The Possum"
George's club in Colmesneil, Texas was called "Possum Holler".
HEY BRITT!!!! I AM 81 YEARS OLD ,BUT I FEEL LIKE IN MY 30'S.....EXCEPT WHEN IT IN THE FREEZING WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got to know George over the years and I was devastated when he passed. He was a wild one but he was also humble and down to the earth and never forgot where he came from. Great reaction to a great song and artist. The line about the possum in a cage is because one of his nicknames is "the possum", and the line about the new corvette is because he's got a song "The Corvette Song".
The neon in my veins line refers to the neon lights of nightclubs.
Both of his guests had very good country careers and are still performing. George's nickname was the Possum. An alcoholic, an addict to drugs - a guy that lived a hard life....he was rescued from living in his car in an alley in Nashville. BRITT,,, THE ONLY THING IN YOUR LIFE YOU CAN CONTROL IS YOUR "ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George Jones' nickname was the Possum.
Because his facial features kinda looked like a Possum, with his small eyes close together. Especially with his buzzcut.
Neon from the bar lights
Possum, where I come from! His beady eyes, and his down from his socks gravel voice.
I consider him the savage of country music…. He’s amazing. Try ‘she thinks I still care’ and ‘worst of luck!!! I’m a sucker for old country & Western
That's Mark Chestnut and Tracy Lawrence joining George
He's saying he has neon in his veins everyone knows George, did a little drinking in his day's, hey Britt, try listening to George Jones, singing "SOMEDAY MY DAY WILL COME" LIVE GOOD SONG, THANKS
A family friend, years and years ago, was working security at an event in Louisville KY. She saw someone cutting donuts in the parking lot and called the cops. Turned out it was George cutting up before a concert. He didn't make it to said concert, lol.
