Thanks. I had to work with webhooks a while back and I saw the thumbnail and couldn't remember what a webhook was so I this helped jog my memory. Learned a bit more as well. Appreciate it.
Thanks for the explanation, in layman terms, in API you ask server for something and get it by hitting a end point,where as in webhooks you set a condition once and leave it, if the condition gets triggered you will get what is needed.

I think I have already used web-hook pattern without knowing that I am using web hook. I have worked on apps which generate data and when that happens, the app posts that data to certain down stream systems. In our case the down stream systems were predefined. We didn’t provide any provision to register on the fly to receive data updates. I think the web hook pattern allows for dynamic subscription?

Do we call a post api initiated by a user a webhook? Or we only call it a webhook when post request is initiated by database?
No, this would not be considered a web Hook, since the Consumer is explicitly Making the request.
When a system monitors For a particular event, and when the event happens/is triggered, A Web hook is used to send the post request to notify the Consumer that the event happened. In other words, if the consumer is making the request then it will not be considered a Web hook; whereas, if the system is notifying the consumer, it should be considered a Web hook
if a company A is to provide status updates (events) to Company B .
