Becky, thank you for sharing your first sketchbook. I am just finishing my first sketchbook I started after being inspired by one of your videos. I am now more hopeful I will see improvement with time and practice.
I stumbled onto your videos recently and have enjoyed them so much. I love how straightforward you are, and clear about the supplies you use, and especially the advice and tips on mixing pigments. I haven't painted or drawn in a couple of years and got so so rusty. So i fixed up my plein air bag and headed to the beach this morning early. It was sublime out there, lots of nesting shorebirds and turquoise waters. I just channeled my inner Becky and jumped in, to get over my mental block! Just draw, look, paint, get it done ;) So Idrew a decent scene in pencil, then inked it, not bad. But the painting was pretty bad. Really awful. I didn't despair at all (oddly enough). Instead i wrote all over the painting the things I learned, what worked, what i loved and what to change. It feels like a very successful trip and next time will be better. I still had a beautiful morning. Thanks, Becky, for your down-to-earth and clear instruction that makes satisfying watercolor sketches seem actually possible.
So much fun to see your progress! (As well as the early "ugly" sketches that are beautiful because of the memories). I love how you use your sketching to focus on the good things in life.
Thanks for letting us being part of your artist life. Its so important to focus on what we have, instead of what we dont have. I do the same. And especially in hard times this is a healthy thing that can help a lot!
It was delightful seeing the 2012 art journal and the most recent art journal. One can tell how far you have traveled, understand why one needs to practice , practice , practice ,and have patience in order to achieve what you've achieved, Becky. TY
@@BeckyCao yes! Thank you! I think I watch most of your sketchbooks flip throughs, but there is the gap between the 1st and....I don't know how many you didn't shoen yet, several years
Wow. What an inspiration. Loved seeing an early sketchbook and a current one. I have watched several of your current "Drawing my day" vlogs. They are so cool and fun to watch! Bravo!
Hi Becky, it’s nice to see you ! it’s very interesting to discover your first sketch book, and to see the difference with now. I’m at the beginning and what I have to do it’s to be patient and precise like you....not simple but when I’m able to do it after I feel well! In this moment I try to draw without cancelling, with my pen and after to use watercolors. Thanks again 😊🌷🌿 Have a nice day.
Thank you for your appreciation, Annick! I wish you enjoy your time with your pen and watercolors. Keep going one small step a day, and you will see progress and change over time. 😊
Thank you for sharing your first sketchbook! I think you’re too critical of your first sketchbook Becky, I was pretty impressed to be honest! While your drawing skills have definitely improved, what strikes me most is how much bolder you are now with color. That is something I am working on because my early watercolors are so flat chromatically. I’ve been dabbling with soft pastels lately and I find those are helping me a lot with both color and value...but watercolor is sure a lotneater and more portable. :-)
It's great to see how you've been working on your art, and keep playing and experimenting! Everyone should find their own way in their artistic journey while learning from and supporting each other. Way to go!
Majority of people sketch outdoor scenes and to be honest (kind of all look the same to me? Lake, trees, a road, a barn, flowers..yawwwwn.) But you sketch-paint everyday items that are colorful and interesting to see come alive on paper. I like that a lot! Very inspiring to be able to do that instead of having to haul the kitchen sink to plein aire paint outs. 😂 ps. I still admire that beautiful blue Windex Bottle you painted in one of your other sketchbooks. Stay safe.
Your comments always mean a lot to me, Sylvia! Yes, I am trying to break from the conventional ways of doing art, and I believe that we can do art anywhere at any time, using minimal supplies. Everything around us is worth contemplating, and sketching is a way to preserve the experiences. 😉 Have a lovely week and take care.
All of it gorgeous...loved your self portrait. Always you are a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you for your kind words! 😊❤️
Love seeing your progress Becky!
Becky, you’ve certainly come a long way as a skilled artist.

Hi Becky, I saw the quot on the inside cover of your first journal from Danny Gregory. :) I noted this quot for myself as well. Amazing work. 🌸🎨🌼☕️
Thank you! 😊💗 Danny Gregory was one of my inspirations to start art journaling.

Lol, breakfast at 1:30pm!!
3:40. Hi Becky. Did you use ink or pencil for your pre-sketch?🤗
I think I used ink for the linework, and pencil crayons for the colors. 😉
Omg if this was your first sketchbook then I have a very long journey..........
Do you think you improved so much by practicing a lot or did you had advice of a teacher/professor?
Definitely by practicing a lot!
