It still looks “space age” today! Quite polarising on its release - love it or leave it. I got to ride the 750 version and that had ample get up and go but this beast…wow! Cheers for posting and bringing back great memories 😻

At that time I drove such a 1100 Katana for some years. But it had a 4in1 from Bimota installed. The sound was divine and could be heard for a few more kilometers.

WOW! The Suzuki Katana is a motorcycle that needs no introduction. It is one of the most iconic and recognizable motorcycles of all time, and it has been praised for its timeless design, powerful engine, and handling.
The Katana was first introduced in 1981 as a 750cc model. It was designed by Hans Muth, a German designer who had previously worked for BMW and Ducati. Muth's design was inspired by Japanese katana swords, and it featured a sharp, angular bodywork that was unlike anything else on the market at the time.
The Katana was powered by a 749cc, four-cylinder engine that produced 76 horsepower. It was paired with a six-speed transmission and a shaft drive. The Katana was also equipped with a full fairing, dual disc brakes, and a monoshock rear suspension.
The Katana was an immediate success, and it quickly became one of the most popular motorcycles in the world. It was praised for its performance, handling, and style. The Katana also won numerous awards, including the prestigious Motorcycle of the Year award from Cycle World magazine in 1982.
The Katana was produced for 10 years, and it was available in a variety of engine sizes, including 750cc, 1100cc, and 1300cc. The final generation of the Katana was produced in 1992.
In 2019, Suzuki brought back the Katana name with a new model. The new Katana is based on the GSX-S1000, and it features a similar design to the original Katana. The new Katana has been well-received by critics and enthusiasts, and it is sure to continue the legacy of the iconic motorcycle.
Here are some of the key features of the Suzuki Katana:
Timeless design inspired by Japanese katana swords
    Powerful four-cylinder engine
    Excellent handling
    Full fairing
    Dual disc brakes
    Monoshock rear suspension
The Suzuki Katana is a true classic motorcycle that is still admired today. It is a testament to the skill and vision of Hans Muth, and it is a reminder that sometimes the best designs are the ones that are the most original. This one SUZUKI KATANA is my favorite motorcycle ever because it simply resumes everything I always wanted and needed from a motorcycle. Period. Think I still dream about owning one since I was a 16 year old back in 1981!!! But I'm growing old and it is becoming harder than harder not only to find one for sale, but even to spot one these days... Sad. Thanks for sharing.

Bar risers - that's the Katana I remember. None of this sit up and beg crap on the 2019 model with its mushy rear suspension. Katanas were back-breaking, hard-core,no compromise sports bikes. That's why they had a love-hate cult status. They didn't try to please everyone, just the fans.

    Not an 1100. This is a 1000.
And not 97. The 1000 was only available as an 82, and the 1100 was an 83.
I know. I had an 83 1100, with a Russel Sturm built motor..
It still scares me to this day.
Lived in Marysville OH at the time.
Drove it to Marion Cty raceway in La Rue.
Ran a 9.29 with no wheelie bar and one cylinder flooded due to a piece of debris keeping the float open on carb #3.
Scared the crap out of me.
    Wicked torque.
    Great frame balance.
Front wheel 6” off the ground thru 4 gears.

I had an 1135 efe, and 750 es, have to say, the 750 was a far nicer ride, the bigger 1135 had lousy handling, mine had a siezed rear shock, the frame tubes rusted from inside, so rear seat frame broke, below engine tubes cracked, inlet rubbers perished, wiring loom brittle with age.....rear wheel clutch hub rubbers perished,

      @elmoomle4565 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Obsolete? I disagree.
It's a motorcycle that can be ridden, relatively fuss-free....it starts, it goes, it stops and it corners...all while looking AMAZING. It clearly doesn't have the performance envelope of today's 'sports' bikes and it's certainly not obsolete as a road bike.
Is it 'lower tech'? Sure. Does it have obsolete tech?? Hardly.

The bike is really clean but the front forks are off a older bike. The front forks dont have the anti dive valve unit with the little cooling fines and the extra brake lines that join it. The rear shocks are not stock , but they are better units then the stock ones. I would put a 1987 GSXR 750 front end on it with the better brakes and smaller 17 inch font rim, .the bike will turn into a corner carver lol!
