Awesome video! Has the UK Monetary Policy Themes video been released?
yh
how is the government able to £600Bn more over the next 5 years if they are in such high debt and borrowed so much during covid? arent the tax freezes and increases in corp tax supposed to be making up for all the accumulated debt? so why are the government then also spending £600Bn more? thankss
they are spending that much money to reduce the negative impacts of the policy , but the real reason is because they are goobers who don’t know what they are doing
I think its only mandatory for them to service the debt interest so i'd guess they're just gonna pay back the actual debt over a longer period of time in order to free up money to spend on expansionary fiscal policy to prevent the potential of a demand side shock which could be caused by the current contractionary fiscal and monetary policies
cuz the entire point of the covid policies were basically to avoid recession so letting the economy go into a recession now would just be counter intuitive
Since the government is increasing spending in some areas, would this not count as austerity?
@@AlevelStudent-c1y my brother in christ austerity is cutting government spending
Fresh trim 🐐
Would the crowding out effect also be relevant as less low able funds are available for private firms to make when we came out of lockdown
I think yes
yeah, increased gov borrowing - this increases the *demand* for loanable funds which pushes up real interest rates and crowds out the private sector :)
Potentially, however it is essential you do a chain of analysis so it is clear how you got to this conclusion
Economics teacher on steroids
If Dal can get me anything above a fail i will build an alter for him
dal is the best
ECONDAL DA GOAT YO
Is this for Cambridge as paper 2 or another paper?
