Thank you so much for this video. My granddaughter wanted me to make her a skirt, and I'm a quilter, not a garment sewer! I was dreading putting the zipper in, but with the gadget and your instruction, I got it right the first time. I am so relieved. A million thanks! ❤❤❤

Been sewing for over 45 years and never had to sew an invisible zipper until tonight. Your video helped TREMENDOUSLY!!!!! I didn't understand instructions with pattern or zipper foot, but after watching this I think invisible zippers are actually easier to install than a regular

I think it's good that she repeated things and "overly complicated" it - which isn't the right term to use. She was just spelling things out, so to speak, so it's easy to understand, even for a beginner who knows little to nothing about sewing! Thanks to this, I feel confident now that I'll do it right the first time. Thank you for this tutorial :)

After my father, who was an AWESOME self-taught tailor, passed away, I inherited all of his sewing equipment, and not until I watched your video, had I been able to figure out how to use his invisible zipper foot! It isn't like the Universal one you demonstrated, but it at least gave me great direction, and from there I figured it out! Thank you so very much for helping me feel like my father was right there with me again! I've subscribed and can't wait until you're next video!

I love that this tutorial includes how to install those feet. I just bought them without ever having sewn a zipper before but I knew I needed them. This is the most comprehensive zipper tutorial I've seen on TH-cam. Thank you so much.

I just got home from Hobby Lobby where I had purchased an invisible zipper and the package of invisible zipper feet that I wasn't sure I would even need. To my surprise I have the exact package that is shown in this video and without this video I probably would never have figured this process of attaching the zipper foot and sewing the invisible zipper so easily. I am sewing it into a throw pillow. Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions.

I've been sewing since before Professor Pincushion was born, so I assumed my old invisible zipper foot wouldn't work on the new smaller coil zippers. Bought the new thing and had to wire it together (difficult) because it kept popping off the "bar". Gingerly used iit for two zippers. Checked Nancy's Notions website to see if they carried a better one and low and behold, they are selling my "old" one. Had a scrap end of one of those newly installed zippers, and used my "old" foot. It worked perfectly, and MUCH much better than the cheap one sold at the fabric store. Live and learn!

I enjoyed your video. Yours is the best so far. I have never put in an invisible zipper but my friend brought me a suit to make and it called for an invisible zipper. I told her I didn't know how. She suggested You tube. She was correct. I will try tomorrow. You make it seem so easy. I am confident now that I can do it. Thanks.

This tutorial was great. You really helped me out when I was out is options. I was sewing a dress assuming that the zipper foot package would help me figure out how to fix it on. I found I did it know how to do it from the package info and that the real zipper foot I needed could only be ordered online. This tutorial fixed all of my dress problems. Thank you so much.

Looooove this video! Very informative for those of us who are beginners. I didn’t know I would find a universal zipper foot in the fabric store instead of ordering from a manufacture online, so this was even more helpful. Thank you again for your time in recording this! 💜

I always sew in the zipper to my main skirt. The lining at the seam is pressed the proper seam allowance and then hand sewn to the zipper tape. If you need t see an example you can search "basic skirt lining" on our website but this tutorial is part of our premium membership which is $5/month. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the very helpful tutorial. I've been sewing my entire life and had to get a new machine. I know how to put in the zipper, just didn't want to spend $30 for a new foot so I heard about the universal. I really appreciate how easy your instructions were.

It snaps on to the white foot in a similar way as the others, it can only go one way, and then attached in the same way as your foot attaches to the presser bar. Remember this is for machines that thread right to left. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for all machines but you can always contact coatsandclark with your machine info and see if your machine is compatible.

Fabulous instructions. Articulate and easy to understand walk through the process and clear visuals of all the actions needed. Just finished the install of my first invisible zipper with a decent result for a first try. I did have one frustration. The rod on my white piece did not snap in tight. I was able to use the foot but only with the most delicate touch and with a number of resnaps of the rod needed. I'm thinking I had a defective part as there was no mention in the video of the rod detaching from the rest of the white piece.

  • @ProfessorPincushion
    @ProfessorPincushion  11 ปีที่แล้ว

Are you adding it to an already existing seam? If so, it won't add very much. If you're adding seam, it'll actually make it smaller. If you make your seam allowances smaller, it'll add a little. If you need to add more, you might be able to sew in panels. make it a contrasting fabric and you'll add to the design.

hmmmm...that is correct. It is right side to right side. And when I say right, I don't mean left/right. In this term it means side of the fabric that would be considered showing when the garment is right side out.

It's not any different than doing a regular zipper into a lined garment. I like to stitch my zipper to outer shell as normal. Then I put the lining into my garment. Lining that extends over the zipper tape, gets turned under the seam allowance and then I hand sew the lining to the zipper tape so that it looks nice inside and out. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for your easy-to-understand tutorial! I have only put in two invisible zippers before....for my twin's prom dresses a couple of years ago. I struggled through with some various online tutorials, and it all worked out okay, but I tore them out and had to re-do them multiple times. Today I found your tutorial, and quickly was able to get two zippers put in to some cute little flower girl dresses! Keep up the good work! :)

You made it clear and your voice isn’t like a child nor did you talk to us like a child like some ppl do. I do wish all machines had a huge space to pull thru material. Like a huge arch. Try working on a big furry blanket. Gees. Machines can make it hard to sew with little space. Thanks.

yes, I agree. When working with thick fabric, it can be a pain in the neck trying to squeeze it in a little area.

  • @ProfessorPincushion

I think this is more of a "suggestion" because, of course, they want you to buy their zipper but I think any invisible zipper is more or less the same. Some machines come with a special foot for them and it doesn't make sense that you would only be able to use it with one brand of zipper. :)

Suggestions: always have manicured fingers, use a bright color zipper so we can see the teeth. If you say " you may not be able to see it" that means you need to change something! I only install invisible zippers since they were created 40+ years ago. They are SO easy to install and look perfect, unlike a regular zipper. I only teach invisible zipper installation. Got a new machine and needed to buy this kit. Thanks for explaining that the white pieces is a base. There isn't anything about that with the package.

I forgot to mention, the basting stitch is a great idea, I'll definitely try it. What I've done before was baste stitch the two sides together, iron the heck out of it to get a nice crease, then remove the basting stitch and use the crease as a guide.

Thanks for the tutorial. My machine is a Viking 500 Computer, and this zipper foot did not work well. It didn't fit the shaft very well, so it kept twisting while I was sewing, and as a result the zipper is sewn so close that it is difficult to unzip. Of course that isn't your fault, but this zipper foot attachment is very cheap and poorly constructed. I won't be putting in another invisible zipper anytime soon. :(
