FOCAL is a great Audio Co. I bought UTOPIA in USA in 2017 and used it in Pakistan for 05 years to my entire satisfaction. 03 months back, my set became defective, the voice coil on both the cons would break frequently. I approached Focal France for help. They deputed their dealer in Pakistan, Al- Hina Import and Export (Desert Sound) to address my issue. The dealer also worked very diligently on my issue and arranged shipment to and repair in France. I was mentally prepared to pay the intervention charges to Focal as my set was much beyond warranty. However, to my pleasant surprise, they were magnanimous to undertake repairs on my set free of charge. That is the advantage of tagging along with a great company like Focal. I am now enjoying my UTOPIA once again with a new lease of life and with a humble sense of gratitude to Focal and Al-Hina, Pakistan. Good Show.
Indeed - Addicted to Audio - I was all over that! A bit of a splurge perhaps but it's not every day you see $5500 headphones going for $3500, even if the new model was imminent. Now the new model is $6999 in Australia :-(
22:27 can you please measure how much your cable changes sound signature? sounds like there should be a small bump in high frequency. It should be measurable I think.
Thank you for providing the best review of the updated Utopia headphones. Having Focal provide answers was just great. Utopia are very good headphones. However I am wondering how much improvement it is vs the lower cost Focal Clear MG's which are updated headphones over the original Focal Clears.
The Utopia is definitely a better headphone. Is it night and day like listening to a $25 earbud vs a $500 headphone, no. But Beryllium makes all the difference in the world. Materials matter at the end of the day. Beryllium properties are much higher quality than Magnesium in terms of strength, weight etc etc. This equates to better transients and so on. The Clear and Clear MG are closer in performance than the Clear MG to the Utopia.
Try original Focal Utopia pads on Focal Clear MG and better cable (I have Toxic Silver Widow) and Focal Clear MG sounds amazing. I didn't hear Utopia but by friend's opinion is that this configuration sound very close to Utopia. I hope @Moon Audio will review such pairing. I have Clear MG connected to Mojo 2 and it just shines.
Fun little experiment! When you have the Chord Mojo 2 you can turn the 2016/2020 Utopia into the 2022 version by turning the second highest equalizer frequency band, the green one, 1 dB down from neutral. Vice versa this works also to turn the 2022 one into the 2016/2020 version by turning the green equalizer band *up* 1 dB from neutral. Since I prefer the more sparkling sounding 2016/2020 Utopia unequalized on the Chord Mojo 2, the question then is, is the Chord Mojo 2 slightly leaning towards warm in terms of sound signature? If that is the case, you could sorta deduct from that that the 2022 Utopia may in fact be the more neutrally tuned of the two Utopias, potentially making it better upgradable with higher tier DACs? 🤷🏼♂️
That's a decent analogy, as the Celestee is warmer and fuller sounding than the Elegia. Some people like one headphone over the other, while others enjoy both the Elegia and the Celestee. Same with the Utopias!

I could care less about the box. If it was cheap, I don't care. I don't store in a box and don't listen to the box. Some of the changes seem interesting and will wait for more unbiased reports.
@@20puskinas1992 you're entirely missing the point. They were never talking about a zero sum situation where if you lose presentation you gain build quality and vice versa. If you pay five grand for a headphone, everything has to be exceptional-no compromises in anything. Small things like an elevated unboxing experience is a promise from the brand that everything to the finest details has been heeded.
I'm a little disappointed in the design - from afar, they look more like Focal Elex. They don't stand out like the OG Utopias did. They only look good very close up, in person
They should have lowered the price . No one will spend 5000€ on a dynamic driver headphone. You can get a Susvara, lcd5 , LCD 4 , Dan Clark Audio Expanse for that kind of money which will sound better because they are planars. For 2999€ this will be a great headphone but not for 5k€ . Big no no .

An audio company here in Australia, had a sale on the old ones and was $3500 from $5500 man if I had the money, I'd snatched them headphones up 🎧

I bought mine about 2-3yrs back for 3999 at A2A. Now they are 5500. And new 2022 utopia is 7k. Beyond a joke

Wasn't the originals voice coil all copper? Now its copper-al?
The original's voice coil was all aluminum. It's mentioned around 11:30 in the video. Now it is aluminum and copper. 🙂
