Hey Phoenix Typewriter! I have a Adler 350A/TA Satellite II/Royal Alpha 2001 and I'm wondering if you can point me toward any info on how the electronic margin sensors work? I believe my margin sensors are broken because it often beeps at me in the middle of the page and will go back to the left side on it's own accord. Other times it won't go all the way back to the left side when I hit carriage return, as if it thinks that the start of the margin is somewhere in the middle of the page. I've tried clearing the margins, but that's not it. I can rarely make it through a whole page before it beeps and either won't let me type anymore or goes back to the beginning of the page.
Huhu, thanks. My girlfriend gave me an electronic typewriter so I can send her neat letters while she's away. This helped me out a lot more than the manual.
Thank you for rhis video! I just got one, and never using one before it was very easy to translate what you were doing on that machine to my own! Thanks again!
I know this is an old video, but is there any way to get the first typewriter like yours in the video? I know there must be some out there on the net waiting to be bought, but been looking for a spanish layout typewriter for a while.
All of my typewriters at the time were purchased from thrift and second hand stores. Any typewriter that was less than $15USD I would purchase. I only purchased supplies online so I have no sites to recommend for full on typewriters.
Great video! I recently got a sharp pa 3030 but the keys seem to be all messed up, every letter is actually a different letter or symbol, any idea on how to fix such an issue?
I just got that Brother word processor at a thrift store for eight dollars. Boy, was I surprised to see that it still prints. What a fun, weird purchase.
I've always had an interest in vintage electronics, id love to get an electronic typewriter because i like how it was part of the shift from mechanical to electrical. Anyway do you have a recommendation for a fairly cheap, vintage, electric typewriter ?
Can you do a video with the basics on a Brother ml 300? it's just that I borrow it at the library so I don't have enough time to play with it (since it's not my typewriter and is at the library), thanks
Thanks a lot. I recently got a Brother Electronic AX-18. Crazy dusty when I got it. But in good condition. Different feel than an manual typewriter for sure. But still a lot of fun to use.
I have a Royal Satellite II which resembles the III shown here but without a left platen knob. Mine is stuck--it doesn't move or type. It turns on, so the problem appears to be in the machinery and not the power supply. When I type, the printing mechanism does not advance. The print wheel spins to different letters but never strikes the page. Whether I type, or hit the return, or hit the correction button the printing mechanism rocks but doesn't advance. I changed the ribbon cassette and replaced the wheel, with no affect. Can you guess what may be wrong with it?
+Rusty Silver The print head isn't lodged in any way, correct? No obvious shipping placeholderd anywhere? If you gently push it left or right, can it move? The usual "don't move too fast, you'll burn out the motor driver" applies. Is it possible to check the connections to the print head to make sure they are making contact? I can't do any searching right now to see if there is a common fault with that model. As long as the mechanics are fine, it'd be on to an electrical check with motors and go from there. If it isn't anything simple that is.
Thanks, I checked the typewriter further, following your questions. So far, no solution. One could say that it "tries" to print, but cannot do it. Please see the video - goo.gl/photos/mkr8SYpLV1Zc9kFA9
It's really hard to say what's wrong with it. I agree, it certainly "tries" but I don't know why it can't. Doesn't seem to be anything simple sadly, or at least nothing I've seen wrong before. Might be as simple as some form of power (or even still connector?) problems, or some strange processor problem. The first thing it should do when it turns on is try to move the print head all the way to the left, finding the end stop, so even it doesn't even seem to be working at startup. The ability for it to try to spin the daisy wheel is perplexing, making me want to think power delivery , but I'm probably off base.
Mine has left and right margin keys which I would have assumed would be to move the starting margin but so far as I can tell, they don't do anything. It makes a sound when I press them but from there, nothing seems to change.
I have an Olivetti ET Personal 55. It has two green lights on the left side of the keyboard, one is obviously the ON light, but what is the other one for? It says EDIT under it. Thanks in advance.
I have a Panasonic R340 and the thing you type with is stuck right in the middle of the page. No idea how to fix this, I don’t think it’s a tab issue but I’m not sure. Any help would be appreciated
Carbon ribbon is one use ribbon as well as MultiStrike. My multisticke Smith Corona does have Mebius loop but it seems like supposed to have. Such a story ;) 10:01

Could you please say how long can work (without any repairs) a portable typewriter? And which printing technology it uses, because it writes without noises.. somehow.
Portable typewriters seem to last quite a long time without any repairs. It mainly comes down to replacing the ribbon cassette it uses, and then batteries, if you aren't running it off of the wall. Most portable typewriters I have messed with use a thermal printer, and the ribbon cassette is basically the "toner" for it, since you aren't using thermal paper, it instead uses the heat to transfer the material onto the paper. The ribbons for the Canon Typestar 7, as shown in the video, are rated for 32,000 characters.
Hello I know this was a few years ago, but I have an Olympia electric typewriter model E-R12 and it was working fine until it stopped typing. I press the keys but it won’t type, please help if you can. Thank you and love the videos
I've never had much luck with these things, they either have parts missing or other mechanical issues, or the electronics boards have gone kaput. Guess it's no surprise I love old manual typers, then.
+Shipwright1918 Don't blame you there. I've gotten lucky with most of mine but can't say I haven't had issues. I mean you really don't need a tutorial for manual typewriters, if they are working, they just work.
+Nick Drudge I dunno about that, most people seem to have difficulties getting to grips with manual typers, at least at first, but I think that's more to do with being unfamiliar with the technology than any fault with the typewriter itself. It took me a little bit to get used to mine, as I'd never used one before, but once I did it's like riding a bicycle, you don't forget easily. I agree though, if you have a manual typewriter that works when you get it, odds are it's going to stay working longer than you will provided you take care of it. A little cleaning every so often, a drop of oil here and there, and a fresh ribbon is all you need, no electricity required ever. Electronic typers are all right, I suppose, but as I said, I've never had the good luck to come across one that worked. I'm sure they're not all lemons, and no doubt they're really useful.
+Shipwright1918 I expect that learning curve with any device, but once you become familiar with manaul, you can typically handle any manual "oh I've seen one of these before, I know how to use it." Electronic having weird specific functions with word processing ones not even immediately printing when you type. Yup manaual typewriters will probably outlive us all. As far as electronic typewriters, there's something to be said about plugging a parallel cable to a PC and getting it to print with a basic command when a few year old USB printer has no driver support for the newest OS and all kinds of ads for their ink. Watching a typewriter seemingly work on its own is a different form of magic. Otherwise yeah its just preference. I find them an interesting hybrid of two worlds if anything.

Køøl Düderino, No. other way around. Lift off is for carbon film ribbons only.
