The fact that they pre-selected the reviewers for early review codes based on their first impressions videos is the reason. If they didn't, the reviews probably would sway much more in one direction. Also now they made another case to incentivise reviewers to give good reviews for their games. Otherwise you might not get a review code. In such instances I trust the negative reviews more. Just because they are curated to be the minority.
So glad that you arnt bitching about this game. I finished act one. And im INLOVE with this dragon age. I have played all other 3 games. And its 10/10 imo. I'm sick of hearing about people bitch about this game when they haven't played it. Its actually fun.

I kind of wish the weapon and armor mod mechanic from DAI would have become a mechanic in this game. I thought that being able to craft items you can attach to weapons and armor that change how they look and serve as stat boosters was really cool!

I find it interesting how much the positive and negative reviews agree on. The reviews overall are a confusing mess, but there are common points brought up in nearly all of them. Doesn't help reduce the confusion, but greatly helps identifying the obvious outliers.

I think it's a game people who give a try, play it for themselves and then decide with an unbiased opinion if they enjoy it or not. So many people getting caught up on the visuals or the politics around the game and then calling it trash and not once having actually tried it. Sad because this game is probably what makes or breaks Bioware going forward with big titles and them having more say in how they turn out.
BioWare ISN’T the same as it was, so it simply isn’t possible for them to make the games they used to. Even if not to the extent some have been saying; there are SOME people left.
Thank you for the great review. The thing that you mentioned about gorgeous environments and weird-looking models is exactly how I've perceived it, like it's a separate game at times. This game ain't ugly, it's just that certain models and their proportions feel off. Some of them look passable to decent, even great at times. Qunari looks outright awful though. I would've liked to know more about the combat, difficulty and itemization, but I've gathered most of that from Mortismal anyway.
Man, i wanna love what i see but i keep feeling like "well looks nice enough but on discount." I'll definitely wait for a sale on this one. Thankfully, we have lots of games to play until i make up my mind.

I know people will argue with me but when I played witcher 3 I loved it and I saw my friend playing fable 3. I heard people hated that game back then. But my friend suggested me to play it and guess what I liked it more than witcher 3. I think this game is giving me same vibe which I had while I was playing fable 3.
This is definitely a hit or miss type of game for people. As someone who would die for the Dragon Age series and 100% every one, I love this game. I went online to see others sentiments and it was the polar opposite. Its very different, yes, but not bad to me. Im around halfway through and I genuinely feel this game is incredible. Better than Origins? No obviously. Around the same level of Inquisition where it has an issue here or there but I absolutely cant wait to complete all of it.
Oooo also one more thing, can rogues stealth? And can the death caller summon undead or anything? Or is everything we’ve seen in terms of skills and abilities the end product?

You mention the romances feel asexual at times, but I was wondering if you could actually play any of the romances that way? Like you mentioned Bellara. Are you able to romance her without sleeping with her like Josephine or Dorian if you choose in Inquisition?
I think it just kind of depends on the personality of the character. I’ve heard some are more spicy while others are more subdued. It seems like he may have only romanced Bellara, who kinda gives off awkward nerdy girl who is more interested in artifacts than romance vibes, but it’s hard to tell. I guess we’ll see to what extent their romances can go after release.
This may be a spoiler to some people, but I figure based on your comment anyone in this thread is looking for info - Taash has a romance instigation scene that was more spicy than Bellara would have. I'm not romancing her so I can't comment further but a single flirt option and high enough approval brought this about pretty unexpectedly. I suspect characters like Lucanis and Taash are more spicy but probably Davrin and Bellara are sweeter? Take this with a grain of salt, I haven't completed a full romance for anyone, there may not be a full spice in the game. I just have that 1 scene to go on
He's made very few videos and had been pretty bland on his opinions about it, do you know what critical means? One thumbnail even says pleasant surprise
Good to hear the game is technically polished on PC. The character design is growing on me. I know it's a departure from previous titles, but I think it works for this.

Look I preordered I was gonna play this even if it horrible reviews from everyone I follow. Hearing it's enjoyable and combat works allays basically all my concerns major ones anyway. I was already set on doing Mage first and don't mind earning my skills so to speak so I'll still try it first. The itemization and sheer amount of options sounds like a blast to my theorycraft brain to play with. Appreciate all your work man, just hoping the storytelling and connective tissue are at least as good as before. Either way look forward to playing it alot more after your review. Hearing no cliffhangers worries me this is may be the last Dragon Age if they're closing everything off though. Hopefully not the case.

This is the second review ive seen compare the endgame to ME2 final mission and im so hyped!! Also Isabela confirmed! Letsgo! Lol im modeling my character after her so it should be interesting
All the negative hype is discouraging for sure, considering the legacy of the franchise. I however am very much looking forward to the combat, the skill trees and the action gameplay. I'm ok with a generationally different approach to gameplay. It doesn't have to be the same as last entries in my opinion. I do agree that character models look less detailed, especially the Kunari, but it is what it is, and I assume modders will have a field day with the gamein due time. I think your review is very fair. No game is perfect. I do appreciate that it runs very well without many glitches. I'm impressed by the care to make it a great experience that way. Lastly, the game offers 3 classes, which to me, adds to the longevity in replaying the game as another archetype. It should be fun to pick up again after some time to replay as another class. Nice review. I'll reserve my opinion of the negative perspectives, despite others comments till I've played the game myself.
As someone who kept playing as a pacifist mage being the support help out the team and try and be the overall good guy that is compleetly gone right? No more choices how you play like a tank support but just damage dealer right? And no more evil asshole playthrough which generally was my rogue... Just different classes that only are different ways of dealing damage? So overall choice is way more limited then the other games?
4:50 - It's Frostbite, just as Inquisition, Anthem, Andromeda. So yeah, no, not a technical limitation that one. I mean look at the variety of different enemies and NPC, how diverse they are in terms of size, shape etc. My money is on a purely ideaological/political decision.
Don't listen to the standard "hate slop" a lot of these other cornballs have been putting out lately. It's lucrative to hate on a game these days and you will get a lot of people in the comments jumping on the pole and riding it to be "cool". The game is fun and feels next gen. It's pretty much what Dragon's Dogma 2 should have been.
The critical reviews come across as much more genuine than most who have been given free copies. The general consensus being that it's an average action RPG, but a mediocre Dragon Age game.
@ There are plenty of people that were not given free copies that still gave it positive reviews. Half the bad reviews are edge lords, people that haven’t actually played it, and the degenerate women are “woke crowd.

Look at metacritic. The positive is the majority.
I think it's a game people who give a try, play it for themselves and then decide with an unbiased opinion if they enjoy it or not. So many people getting caught up on the visuals or the politics around the game and then calling it trash and not once having actually tried it.
Sad because this game is probably what makes or breaks Bioware going forward with big titles and them having more say in how they turn out.
Im no expert on cancer, but Im pretty sure it sucks. I feel the same way about Veilguard.
BioWare ISN’T the same as it was, so it simply isn’t possible for them to make the games they used to. Even if not to the extent some have been saying; there are SOME people left.
I play a game if I think its worth it. I cant give every game out there a chance. What a strange idea.

Thank you for the great review. The thing that you mentioned about gorgeous environments and weird-looking models is exactly how I've perceived it, like it's a separate game at times. This game ain't ugly, it's just that certain models and their proportions feel off. Some of them look passable to decent, even great at times. Qunari looks outright awful though.
I would've liked to know more about the combat, difficulty and itemization, but I've gathered most of that from Mortismal anyway.
Man, i wanna love what i see but i keep feeling like "well looks nice enough but on discount." I'll definitely wait for a sale on this one. Thankfully, we have lots of games to play until i make up my mind.

I know people will argue with me but when I played witcher 3 I loved it and I saw my friend playing fable 3. I heard people hated that game back then. But my friend suggested me to play it and guess what I liked it more than witcher 3. I think this game is giving me same vibe which I had while I was playing fable 3.

This is definitely a hit or miss type of game for people. As someone who would die for the Dragon Age series and 100% every one, I love this game. I went online to see others sentiments and it was the polar opposite. Its very different, yes, but not bad to me. Im around halfway through and I genuinely feel this game is incredible. Better than Origins? No obviously. Around the same level of Inquisition where it has an issue here or there but I absolutely cant wait to complete all of it.

Didn't know I was going to skip this game or not. I had been very excited, but some the reviews gave me pause. It is definitely not what I wanted, but I am now pretty sure I will give it a play at some point.

You mention the romances feel asexual at times, but I was wondering if you could actually play any of the romances that way?
Like you mentioned Bellara. Are you able to romance her without sleeping with her like Josephine or Dorian if you choose in Inquisition?
I think it just kind of depends on the personality of the character. I’ve heard some are more spicy while others are more subdued. It seems like he may have only romanced Bellara, who kinda gives off awkward nerdy girl who is more interested in artifacts than romance vibes, but it’s hard to tell. I guess we’ll see to what extent their romances can go after release.
This may be a spoiler to some people, but I figure based on your comment anyone in this thread is looking for info - Taash has a romance instigation scene that was more spicy than Bellara would have. I'm not romancing her so I can't comment further but a single flirt option and high enough approval brought this about pretty unexpectedly. I suspect characters like Lucanis and Taash are more spicy but probably Davrin and Bellara are sweeter? Take this with a grain of salt, I haven't completed a full romance for anyone, there may not be a full spice in the game. I just have that 1 scene to go on

Good to hear the game is technically polished on PC. The character design is growing on me. I know it's a departure from previous titles, but I think it works for this.

This is the first positive review I’ve seen of all the channels I watch. I pre ordered it despite the controversies so I hope this is the best one… but everyone else saying it’s bad is not promising.

Look I preordered I was gonna play this even if it horrible reviews from everyone I follow. Hearing it's enjoyable and combat works allays basically all my concerns major ones anyway. I was already set on doing Mage first and don't mind earning my skills so to speak so I'll still try it first. The itemization and sheer amount of options sounds like a blast to my theorycraft brain to play with. Appreciate all your work man, just hoping the storytelling and connective tissue are at least as good as before. Either way look forward to playing it alot more after your review.
Hearing no cliffhangers worries me this is may be the last Dragon Age if they're closing everything off though. Hopefully not the case.

This is the second review ive seen compare the endgame to ME2 final mission and im so hyped!! Also Isabela confirmed! Letsgo! Lol im modeling my character after her so it should be interesting
All the negative hype is discouraging for sure, considering the legacy of the franchise. I however am very much looking forward to the combat, the skill trees and the action gameplay. I'm ok with a generationally different approach to gameplay. It doesn't have to be the same as last entries in my opinion. I do agree that character models look less detailed, especially the Kunari, but it is what it is, and I assume modders will have a field day with the gamein due time. I think your review is very fair. No game is perfect. I do appreciate that it runs very well without many glitches. I'm impressed by the care to make it a great experience that way. Lastly, the game offers 3 classes, which to me, adds to the longevity in replaying the game as another archetype. It should be fun to pick up again after some time to replay as another class. Nice review. I'll reserve my opinion of the negative perspectives, despite others comments till I've played the game myself.

As someone who kept playing as a pacifist mage being the support help out the team and try and be the overall good guy that is compleetly gone right? No more choices how you play like a tank support but just damage dealer right? And no more evil asshole playthrough which generally was my rogue... Just different classes that only are different ways of dealing damage? So overall choice is way more limited then the other games?

4:50 - It's Frostbite, just as Inquisition, Anthem, Andromeda. So yeah, no, not a technical limitation that one. I mean look at the variety of different enemies and NPC, how diverse they are in terms of size, shape etc. My money is on a purely ideaological/political decision.
Don't listen to the standard "hate slop" a lot of these other cornballs have been putting out lately. It's lucrative to hate on a game these days and you will get a lot of people in the comments jumping on the pole and riding it to be "cool". The game is fun and feels next gen. It's pretty much what Dragon's Dogma 2 should have been.
The critical reviews come across as much more genuine than most who have been given free copies. The general consensus being that it's an average action RPG, but a mediocre Dragon Age game.
@ There are plenty of people that were not given free copies that still gave it positive reviews. Half the bad reviews are edge lords, people that haven’t actually played it, and the degenerate women are “woke crowd.
