Great tips. I like how considerate they are and very sensible too :)
I agree with all of them but the metre. I started film photography a year ago and I've been using an app to metre. Sure I don't get the most accurate reading but it's never been so wrong the photo came out terrible. By having learned the principles of metering, I can normally adjust to what I want. I definitely wouldn't have started shooting film if I had to spend $100 on a metre. I'm now considering one but I still have issues with spending money on a metre when the app does a good enough job for my needs.

Buying a 100-dollar camera and then spending the same amount, or ever more, on a meter is not exactly the best advice for the average beginner... The same is valid for overexposing film. Keep it simple for people that are just getting started. Perfecting the art comes later.

200 dollars won't even buy you an Xbox or a decent smartphone.
Shooting digital requires a more than 200 dollar computer and printer.

@@pahwraith what does that have to do with what I said? my point was to keep stuff simple for beginners. a beginner does not need to spend money on a dedicated light meter. there are cameras with meters and that's what beginners need to shoot the first rolls. shooting digital requires more than 200 dollars, so what? no one said anything about shooting digital.
