I have 5 hours on my 2023 Ultra 310x. I've been in the PWC game for 25 years and raced offshore in SoCal. This is my first Kawi and holy hell does it own the rough water and chop. None of my Seadoos can even come close. It's almost hard to believe how fast it is in rough water. I wish I had an Ultra when I raced offshore. The build quality, ergonomics, handling and engine are all top quality. The seat is incredibly comfortable even for three people. People say it's heavy, but it feels just as light as my 2014 RXPX on the water. It doesn't feel like a big boat, but it's stable like one. The right thumb reverse works fine and easy to get used to. If you want to be comfortable and go fast in rough water, this is the ski. It's not perfect - front storage opening is too small, gullwing doors are awkward and not water tight, engine cover is cumbersome, it's a wet ride in the rough, color scheme is lame (light grey in footwells, really?), two keys when there should be only one. I'd take a real glove box over cup holders any day! These don't take away from the riding experience, but bring the overall owner experience down a notch.

This ski looks very impressive. I've never ridden a Kawai but my Seadoo 300 GTX and RXTX have never let me down. They ride amazing in chop and when I smash the throttle with a RIVA Stage 1 kit, it practically rips my arms out of their sockets. I have to hold on for dear life. Nothing about my Seadoo disappoints me or leaves me wanting for more.

This ski is simply incredible. From watching your very early videos, it kept me with an open mind to Kawi's return. I'm impressed at the quality of the software engineering that Kawasaki invested into this watercraft. In my opinion, they have blown the competition out of the water! And as far as the reliability, they destroy Sea-Doo.

I have a 2008 Ultra 250x that still runs like a beast and a 2018 Ultra 310x that screams and cuts thru the waves like magic. My buddies have Yamahas and Sea Doos and call my skies Kawasofas because of the rides!

Man I sold my 08 ultra 250x and regret it every summer. I had it until 2018 and it was heavily modified and never had an issue even though they said the 250 was the worst motor for ringland failure. Besides a few supercharger belts I had zero issues

Another great review. You hit the proverbial nail on the head. I just took my LX-S offshore in Stuart Florida and it’s amazing how well it handled the open ocean. Transitioning from flat river riding to a windy choppy bay posed no threat to comfort or stability. And like you mentioned, the power is always available if you need it to pull you out of trouble or just get you to the restaurant just a little quicker than most. Really enjoy the channel!

Thanks for an honest review with actual opinions at the end. So sick of reviews with vague "Don't make other manufactures mad" statements at the end that mean nothing. This felt like the Water Ski Magazine "boat buyers guide" issues of the early 90s where they actually gave information. Thanks again for a great review. More strong opinions with clear "It's the one I would buy" statements at the end please. Awesome!

Finally paid attention to the Bare Bones part. I know what you mean in comparison to its siblings but isn't it amazing where we are today that a ski this amazing and still so feature packed is relatively "bare bones"! Haha. Shame they are so scarce! Reminds me of waiting for my 01 STXR to arrive. MAN I LOVED THAT SKI!

I’m getting a jet ski soon and your videos are super informative. Kawasakis are the brand I have seen the least about. My intended use will be ocean, surfing and tow sports, as well as some fishing. It was great to hear about the rough water ability of this ski as most of my riding will be in less than glassy ocean. The surf rescue industry widely considers the FXHO as the top pick. Why do you think that is?

You're not alone. The hood and general look were more slippery. The fumbling of the front storage is the biggest error in this build. It's just...egregious. But the lower center of gravity, deeper footwells and ergonomics are worth the cost of admission.

Thanks for the great video. I love the Kawi green but having only seen this particular ski in person, I can't agree more on how beautiful it is. Pics look great but on the water in the sun it is AMAZING! Sucks production is so hard hit. Maybe Nancy's visit to Taiwan will improve the electronics supply chain. That is if she has time after tending to her personal affairs. The way things are 2023 is all I can hope for.
It is a shame they messed up the storage opening. Engine cover is a non issue for me especially after JD's solution.
I agree completely with the Kawi width. The others are so wide, 2 on a trailer is just too tight for my garage doors.

    • @JDsWaterWorld
      @JDsWaterWorld ปีที่แล้ว +3

I burn 5 gallons an hour on the Kawi averaging in the high 50s. The Yamaha 1.8 SVHO motor is more fuel efficient because it’s centrifugal supercharger relies on a sprag clutch and thus produces only negligible boost at lower RPMs. The Eaton TVS S/c on the Kawi is always producing boost that is bled off through a vacuum controlled relief valve at lower rpm’s.

These seem so close to perfect with just a couple needless frustrations. It seems like storage volume and the opening size have been severely compromised in the interest of styling which to me looks like it was inspired by the LaFerrari (which I always found a bit ungainly). If they had broadened and raised the front they probably could have maintained or even improved on the 60 gals of storage of the old one. Also I understand that Kawi says the engine cover was necessary to narrow the seat but surely it could have been implemented in such away that it could be opened without tools, this ski is basically designed for salt water use, how are you supposed to clean the engine compartment after every use with that cover?
Any comment on how the smooth to medium chop handling and agility would compare to my '17 RXT-X? I only occasionally splash in open water and heavy chop so I wouldn't want to compromise too much on that in order to gain the superior heavy condition comfort.

    • @watercraftjournal

As soon as learned the new X doesn't have the continental shelf hanging off the back and was also lacking a concert inspired sound system I became even more interested in it specifically. Now I find out it isnt as iver sized as I've been led to believe.. hmmm... You hit it dead on when you brought up function over features. Not that this model is lacking in desirable features its just that desirable features are relative and I like many don't desire many of the newer "features" . I do find one feature missing on almost all models on all brands except one specific unit that I am aware of and that's a built in depth finder/guage. Why give a clear access lid to check the engine oil then miss out another access lid to top it up ???
Front bow nose storage so small apature and impossible to access on the whilst on the ski, you have to get off to load or unload it ??
New deck mats slippery not like models before.
Handle bar mounted key jumped out whilst ridding in rough water and lost it.
Narrower top deck has reduced the already tight access for engine along with relocating the electric trim motor from the front storage compartment to UNDER the engine inlet manifold, heat retention and humidity also increased with the crazy engine compartment cover.

The person who will plop down the $$$ for any of the luxury models like a GTX, Wake Pro, Fish Pro, FX, Ultra 310x, wont be concerned about size and weight.
