  • A very difficult barefoot climb in the Superstition Mountains, east of Phoenix. The trail started out flat, but was covered in gravel. Then it got steep and rocky and was indistinct in places. And lots of cacti - I was extremely careful, but finally stepped on one near the top (no harm done). But the effort was worth it -- spectacular views, getting to know a new desert environment, and on the way down a wild sunset

Super accomplishment. Much respect. Plenty of snow to challenge you back in NY. Happy trails to you.

Right at the top I got something in one foot - annoying for a few minutes, nothing worse

    Why are you barefoot?

I do barefoot hiking for the fun and extra challenge. I started experimenting with barefoot almost ten years ago. Now I only wear shoes when I need to. More fun, more intense, every step an adventure - instead of just focused on speed. Which is especially good as you get older
