  • My 07 R1 was getting hot, as in temps would start climbing very rapidly sitting at lights. While riding it would not go down like it used to. After thinking maybe its coolant or bad oil and lots of forums discussions I decided to replace the thermostat. Problem Fixed!
    Very easy honestly...took maybe 30min - hour.
    07 R1 Parts I Used:
    THERMOSTAT Yamaha Part# 5LP-12411-00-00
    O-RING Yamaha Part# 93210-49046-00

I know this is old but were you having issues changing gears when the temperature got hot? I notice my bike is running usually hotter than normal and having gear issues. I am thinking to do this first.

Hey Gus, no it was mainly the temps climbing a lot quicker than normal. But if you do have a cooling problem wouldn't hurt to try I guess. Ask on the forums, more knowledgeable people than me. If you do take the thermostat out, you can test to make sure it's working correctly by placing it in hot water, check youtube videos for specifics. Hope you get it fixed, I know the feeling when your baby is not feeling well :(.

Hey man, sorry, it was after I installed it that I thought I might as well record and just share what I figured out. Maybe it will help someone out. I never thought I was going to record. Sorry man.

Quick question, does the part that you used does it fit a 2005 r1?

is this thermostat responsible to start the fans?

    • @Humza1

That's a good question and one I don't have an official answer for. The fan might be based on temp sensor, but I could be wrong.
