really hits when you remember she told Joel that shooting that guy and essentially killing him "wsn't the first time" and she "didn't want to talk about it." Obviously Riley turns and she has to do the unthinkable.
Also you guys may not realize it, but the kiss between Ellie and Riley was one of the very first serious girl/girl kisses in gaming (Mass Effect maybe being the very first). Just kinda broke a lot of barriers. And made it look so natural and normal, because it is
I figured with the issues you had about the two suicides this season that you would appreciate Riley’s speech at the end about whether it’s two minutes or two days they don’t give up.
I don't think the show will explicitly show what happened with Ellie and Riley after she was bit because they already strongly implied that Ellie had to kill her. If you remember episode 4 when Joel was upset that Ellie had to hurt that guy Bryan and she responded with "It wasn't my first time". Since we know that after she was infected Marlene finds her and chains her up, there isn't really any other time when she would have had to seriously hurt or kill someone. I think she had to kill Riley and that is just so heartbreaking.
She did and unless the show veers off from the game, it is never shown. It might be mentioned but I think the fourth episode allows viewers to connect the dots. It fades out in the same way in the game.
In the game though Marlene shot her, which makes sense. Because in the game Ellie said, “I went to Marlene for help afterwards” Then Tess said to Ellie, “I’m surprised she (Marlene) didn’t shot you.” And Ellie says, “She almost did” So I’m guessing that Marlene shot Roller but not Ellie bc Riley want immune. Or was she...?
@@Sushie55 The DLC ends at the embrace, Riley turning isn't shown. Ellie went to Marlene after Riley turned and Ellie presumably having to kill her, and Marlene almost shot her after seeing the bite mark. In the show she didn't know Marlene and the mall is a firefly hiding spot so a firefly squad probably went to check on Riley after some time.
Go back and listen to Ellie describe getting bit in the mall. She actually lies and says she was alone in there exploring, prompting Tess to say, "Wow, you've got some balls on you, sister". So that's a further bit of character development that you only realize in hindsight: very much like Joel, she's trying to avoid even mentioning the people she lost, probably because she can't deal with that emotionally other than by burying it.
Ellie did have to kill Riley. The story in the game cuts off the same way as the show and they never show it. The only thing you get is back in the fourth episode when Ellie says it wasn't her first time killing someone when she saves Joel. Glad Holden noticed the Romeo & Juliet similarities as well. It's been awhile since I've played Left Behind but believe that was added for the show. Jens gotten to be really good at analyzing and articulating her thoughts.
This is based on the DLC Left Behind. It takes place right here chronologically but should be played after finishing the first game. I like how Holden is starting to connect the dots between episodes now. And how he's picking up on the strong trust themes.
Me having struggled through two seasons of euphoria and wanting to quit multiple times and then hearing jen give the best possible answer to Holden's question in this episode.
This was based on the DLC of the game “left behind” witch is what the episode is named as well. (Kinda spoilers) : We don’t get to know what exactly happens to Riley not even in the game. But it’s hinted at earlier in the show and game when Ellie mentions it a little and by the end as well. And I believe it’s a good thing we don’t really get to see it we don’t have to it’s way more impactful like this. And also there’s more cutting back and forth in the actual DLC I hope you play that as well after you finish the main story.
They won't show you the conclusion to the bite. They stay in the mall waiting to change. Ellie never changes and is forced to kill her friend; fireflies show up and ask what happened. They notice Ellie hasn't changed, so they take her. Cut to episode 1.
Actually they will. In the full trailer way back, theres still acouple flashes of scenes with riley that weren't in this ep. Prob flashback to it during a tense scene where she has to kill someone
@@freebird6591 We will find out over the next two weeks, but there is so much story to tell. It wouldn't be the first time a show added shots to a trailer that didn't appear in the show. Also, the game never explored that "storyline." It ends like in the episode when you play "left behind."

Lots of people seem surprised that things still work after 20 years but if they haven’t been used I would assume that goes a long way in keeping things in working condition. Especially being indoors away from the elements.
I'm quite confident they will not be coming back to the Ellie/Riley situation in the show. Not only is the outcome obvious, but Ellie already hinted at what happened when she told Joel that shooting that guy to save him wasn't her first time having to shoot/kill someone. As with the choice not to show Bill and Frank in bed after they passed, the showrunners opted to end that scenario with a bit of a focus on the romantic side of the tragedy. We really don't need to see a 14yo shoot and kill the 16yo girl she loved. I thought it was a great decision.
Another great episode, they did a good job of exploring Ellie's crush on Riley. Bella again did a sterling job at acting, even though she was wearing a mask, you knew exactly what she was thinking. I wasn't particularly convinced with Storm's portrayal of Riley though, maybe it's because there's such a contrast in acting styles. Troy Baker in the next episode, be cool to see him in the show.
Another fantastic episode. I love how you don't really get to see what happens with Riley and it's rather implied earlier in the show and during the game that she eventually had to do what needed to be done. So when the game became a tv show it was easier to get the licensing and actually use it! Can’t wait for the next episode! Should be very action packed and emotional!
Seeing this episode makes me think of all of her expressions in the previous episodes like when Joel told her to "Trust me", or why she didn't want to leave him to die. This showed all her trauma. Good job on the storytelling.

I think it’s a good easter egg that Ellie got bit on her upper arm, and Riley got bit on her hands. Essentially, Ellie would have turned sooner than Riley does, but she didn’t and that’s when it probably sunk in that she’s not going to turn after all and ended up having to kill Riley.
Riley's story is over. Everything that happened to Riley after this episode leading to Ellie meeting up with Marlene afterwards is up to the viewer's interpretation, though there isn't much to imagine. Hello there! We will be finishing S1! We finished filming some episodes today. Whether we continue to S2 will depend on a Patreon poll. Hope that helps! 😊 - Jen
What I love about this episode? There are too many ways for things to go wrong to have an accurate guess. If you havent played the DLC theres no telling how this trip to the mall would turn south. FEDRA seeing the lights on, a horde of infected triggered by a fungus wire, environmental hazards i.e. they fall through the glass counter and get all cut up etc etc... like you know something bad is gonna happen but what??
YES Ellie did ha e to kill Riley. Thet was the "first time" that she told Joel, that she "didn't want to talk about it". There's no visual conformation it happend. This sequence is a DLC that was released 8 months after the game. Watching medical personnel watch a show like this is funny. "Well, that's getting infected". lol
Let me just say something about the game without spoilers, when Joel gets stabbed in the game, you are going to be shocked. No he doesn’t get shot or lose any limbs, but just the way that it happens is so much better in my opinion. I feel like that the show is taking out some of the best parts of the game though, the show has pretty much no action compared to the game :c I mean, the entire show offs finished, and the only infected that we have seen were in episode 2, 6, and in this one. They just don’t feel like much of a threat in here because they pity yuck AREN’T in here, which really sucks!
While I agree with Holden on Hollywood not quite grasping how to write teens in a non-trope-y way, that wasn't really what pulled me out of the episode...for me, it was the idea that an escalator AND a carousel just working as intended with no loud screeching or grinding noises after 20 years with no maintenance or lubrication of motors/moving parts, not to mention an entire arcade worth of games and the cheap Halloween motion-detector displays....those things generally don't last a single season, much less 20 years. The glass counters standing up to a couple of teens dancing on them was a bit of a stretch too, but not nearly as egregious. Even so, still a great episode.

I have asked them every video for the last 6 videos....never got a response. I guess they just quit it which disappoints me because I was really enjoying it and I thought Jen was too. ...shrug
Hello there! We will be finishing S1! We finished filming some episodes today. Whether we continue to S2 will depend on a Patreon poll. Hope that helps! 😊 - Jen
@@HoldenHardmanthank you so much for reply!
This episode is nothing like Euphoria. TLOU may be heartbreaking, but Euphoria is tragic.
Yeah... they aren't showing what happened with Ellie and Riley. It's pretty obvious Ellie had to kill her.
YES Ellie did ha e to kill Riley. Thet was the "first time" that she told Joel, that she "didn't want to talk about it". There's no visual conformation it happend. This sequence is a DLC that was released 8 months after the game.
Watching medical personnel watch a show like this is funny. "Well, that's getting infected". lol
Hydra...Fedra...Is there a difference?
Nope
Hail Fedra
Let me just say something about the game without spoilers, when Joel gets stabbed in the game, you are going to be shocked. No he doesn’t get shot or lose any limbs, but just the way that it happens is so much better in my opinion. I feel like that the show is taking out some of the best parts of the game though, the show has pretty much no action compared to the game :c
I mean, the entire show offs finished, and the only infected that we have seen were in episode 2, 6, and in this one. They just don’t feel like much of a threat in here because they pity yuck AREN’T in here, which really sucks!
It was an alright episode the story and emotion was very good but not the best episode so far. Episode 5 stil the best episode

Anyone feeling uncomfortable watching these two actresses kissing? Just know they both are legal and at least 20yrs old. So relax.
