Heres a lost of all the funny things I noticed in this video😂
15:52 Jen trying to find a way to fight even while holding Sarah
16:04 Jen getting mad at the useless AI
16:20-17:03 Jen having a heart attack
22:18 Jen ease-dropping for no reason lol
24:06 Holdens reaction to Jen randomly running up to that guy(Im dead)💀
25:47 Jen mad at AI part.2
27:26 Jen not wanting to kill the guy not knowing the horrors that follow him
27:42 After being hesitant….Jen then executes the guy with no remorse lol
30:48 Jen taking a year to walk delicately across wood
32:35 Jen craving cooked Rat for absolute no reason unless she can taste coding
32:50 Jen trying to buy a dog that’ll probably die in 2 days with tickets she doesnt have
33:02 Jen trynna pick a fight outnumbered, outmatched, outgunned, outskilled, for NO REASON LOL
33:54 Jen trying to shoot another group of guys before even talking to them(shes dying to use that gun)
35:36 After killing that group of guys Jen then proceeds to shoot dead man again for-for good measures?
37:09 Jen doing weird jaw thing….to focus? (Haha idk what that is)
37:20 Jen raising control for better connection I believe
38.07 Jen gets the absolute crap beaten out of her by a random thug while Tess just enjoys the show
39:02 and 39:17 Jen gets surprise attacked by thugs but finally take out her anger and wins those brawls
39:52 Thug “believes” he hears something after getting a literal bottle smashed on his head
43:22 Jen shoves and takes Tess hiding spot almost getting her caught lol
44.02 Jen goes on a murder spree raising her controller with every kill as a….sign of dominance? Idk why she does that haha
44:39 Jen hunts poor guy like a psychopath
44:44 Jen somehow gets stealth kill then proceeds to swing at the air as her victory dance
46:43 Jen wants to kill man instantly instead of having a peaceful conversation lol
48:25 Jen does Mr.Bean impression after seeing robert murdered
50:20 and 50:50 Jen is running late to her appointment for her next killing spree
51.00 Jen holds onto the wall to take a breather in a dabbing position after all that vicious killing
52.06 Jen cold-bloodily shoots man before Holden can even finish his sentence
52:35 Jen almost shoots Marlene….then sees the real threat and doesn’t pull the trigger
58:34 Jen confesses her favorite part of the game is that shes now a crazed lunatic addicted to killing..good for her
All in all I loved this video and loved that theyre trying new stuff…cant wait to see the following parts to this haha

Actually, it's more useful than you think.
It's just that gaming experience and familiriality with controls is required for that.
When I played on Grounded,I let Tess deal with them.
It takes a while and you may have to move between covers , but eventually it will work out since Tess has Infinite ammo.

Gaming on Controller tip for Jen: think of the left stick as you moving your body, and the right state as where you’re looking.
so for example if you’re **moving forward**, you would move up on the left stick but if you want to turn left, you would move the right stick to **look to the left** but still go forward

Letting Jen try out a classic 3d platformer like Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie might be a fun option to help her get comfortable moving around in a 3d game without having as many controls to worry about. I know some people criticize the camera in those games, but the reality is that the camera still usually takes care of itself for the most part. So it should be simpler for Jen to get the hang of without having to worry about moving both joysticks at the same time like in a modern shooter.

Fun Fact: The voice actress for Ellie is Ashley Johnson who has a very small part in Avengers. She's the Redhead who Cap saves and has a little voice over saying that the Avengers, Cap in particular saved her life. She was also, way back in the 80's, on the sitcom, Growing Pains, where she played the youngest daughter. Also she played Mel Gibson's daughter in the movie What Women Want. At least I think that's the title??

    • @robhax
      @robhax 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ashley Johnson is also a voice actress - hence this. She is a big part of Critical Role - with other voice actors - and is reprising her character "Pike" on the Amazon Prime series "The Legend of Vox Machina".
That's a series based on that group's D&D series on Critical Role.

  • @icarusgaming6269
    @icarusgaming6269 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

You picked an excellent choice for a first time game! The myriad accessibility settings can be fine-tuned exactly the way you like. Jen's camera control is *exceptional* for a non-gamer. Most people walk into walls and stare at the sky 10x more than she does, especially with an unfamiliar controller. She fundamentally seems to understand the purpose of the thumbstick as an analogue device that's only meant to be pressed as far as you need to, which is why her turns are so smooth. However, in combat this somewhat goes out the window, and she either critically under or overcorrects while trying to keep everything else in mind. I think to start out you should cut her sensitivity in half. She is remembering to use the quickturn feature, so this shouldn't be too restrictive in case she gets flanked
    Her aiming problems are twofold:
    1. She's fighting *against* the heavy auto aim system you have enabled. It only activates when you initially pull left trigger and is calculated on a per-target basis. Once one target is eliminated, it's disabled until you release and re-pull the left trigger. Same thing happens if you start aiming before a target is presented. No doubt she's carried over her instinct from BCT to keep her gun up when she's in danger to reduce the reaction time when a threat presents itself, so having to constantly go in and out of ADS to get the assists to work right would probably be very counterintuitive. I think one thing that's making this confusing is the UI. The reticle makes it look like her shot will be accurate to the center of the screen, but then sometimes the auto assist overrides this and confuses her reflexes, causing her to pull the perfect shot the game tries to hand her on a silver platter. You could try disabling the reticle and drilling in that she *must* wait to aim until the auto assist indicator pops up, but it would add one more of controller twister to a pretty complex control scheme. The indicator is also helping her detect well-camouflaged enemies in stealth without needing to remember to use focus... but she doesn't seem very interested in using stealth, which is why you might also consider just having her graduate from auto aim entirely. There will still be aim *slowdown* if you disable this, which is a different system that fights you a lot less
2: I think the weapon controls being placed on either side of the controller are causing the two different sides of her brain to cross-wire. She has to use the right hemisphere to ADS with the left trigger, and the left hemisphere to aim and shoot with the right stick and right trigger (yes, human neurology is horizontally inverted). Somewhere along the way this is getting mixed up and signals intended for the right thumb are getting sent to the left, causing her to accidentally step out of cover and expose herself. The PlayStation itself has a built in solution to this: You can customize every button on your controller. I think if you swap the left trigger and right bumper she'll have a much easier time keeping track since all the firearm controls will be on the right side of the controller, just like a real gun. If the problem persists you could even instruct her to take her hand off the left side of the controller entirely until she breaks the bad habit. The immersion of the different trigger pressures for different guns should theoretically remain intact since shoot is still bound to right trigger
When you have someone grabbed you can do several things: You can move them anywhere you want, you can aim and shoot someone else while shielding yourself, you can knock them out, or you can pull *only* right trigger to execute them with the currently equipped pistol. Disable the "hostages can break free" setting to make these tricks easier. I can tell Jen shares my instinct to make sure everyone is dead, so if she's getting bored with the stealth she can try pulling some John Wick shit by sneaking up on one guy and using him to line up precise shots on everyone else. Throwables also majorly factor into this playstyle, but they're kind of complicated, so I'd rather come back to them when we start to encounter clickers
You can't update the old game any farther, and you can't run the new one without a PS5. I still have the second version they released, TLOU Remastered
You've got spam bots in the replies. Read usernames *carefully,* everyone

I just wanted to thank you both for being willing to go through this learning experience together. Like Jen, I grew up as a much more casual gamer and didn't start experimenting with controllers with double joysticks until I was basically an adult, and that was *difficult* for me. My brain and my hands could not grasp coordinating, and it was easy to get frustrated and panicked in situations where I felt like I could only keep failing. Learning and memorizing new mechanics and buttons takes time, and things that seem basic to those who are more familiar with games like this often need to be explained to people (like me, like Jen) who have little to no experience with them. Having someone who knows you and how your brain works can be so helpful when trying to learn something new like this, but patience and a willingness to listen to the source of frustrations/issues go a long way, too. I wouldn't be half as capable at games like this if I didn't have a partner willing to walk through them with me like the two of you are doing now. It's just really nice to see this sort of dynamic in gaming spaces.
For what it's worth, I do feel like this game (and the series in general) does a good job of being consistent about giving you options re: approaching enemies. Whatever Jen's preference ends up being for how to handle them is ultimately up to her, but the option to go stealth is consistent enough that hopefully it helps with the learning curve? Because I remember how difficult I found it to not just remember what all the buttons were and what they did, but also to remember what my options were if things went south and I ended up panicked. Being able to start a situation stealth just as a tool to help learn/memorize those things was helpful for me. Not sure if that'll work for Jen but just tossing it out there in case!
Excited to see if/when y'all continue this, and hope you both enjoy experiencing it (and the series adaptation) simultaneously. I don't think that's a perspective/experience I've come across yet, so I'm super interested to see how that unfolds.

I've been a casual gamer all my life and I sometimes forget how actually difficult it is to play videogames, its almost like learning how to drive manual (stick shift) cars for the fist time, you have multiple controls to use at the same time while doing them correctly and precisely lol, but when you get used to it, which takes just a few hours (sometimes less) it's really enjoyable. She made a lot of progress in that hour or 2, well done and I hope you keep playing it and don't get discouraged, this is my favorite game of all time and it has soo many beautiful moments and amazing scenes in it, and it made a pretty big impact on my life. Love the channel btw, you guys are great.

This is SO goddamn relatable. I had pretty much the EXACT SAME experience with my father when I tried to play this with him (it means the world to me, so he wanted to share in that). For non-gamers, to receive so many instructions in a relatively short time span, besides just learning basic stuff like "looking around" and "moving", it can be overwhelming like you are back in your toddler years. And we in the backseats as professionals are just as much panicking to try and steer the beginners into the right direction and prevent disaster... It is as much laughable as it is painful!😅 Jen's scared shrieks are just gold!
With games like this, were storytelling is so important, it might have been the better approach to let Holden play this, and Jen react to it. She has to learn so much that there is barely any time to absorb what is actually happening with the characters and the subtleties of world-building, which is the best part of the Last of Us. She should be playing a different third-person shooter or stealth game first to really get the hang of "playing", before trying this.
On a final note: the conversation bubbles are NOT essential to move the game forward. They are OPTIONAL, but you should try to listen to them as much as you can, since they provide a lot of hidden context regarding the story and characters. To me, they are an integral part of the heart and soul of this game.

The squeals that Sarah makes once she's shot just always kill me. It's so real, so believable. The voice actress here just did such a phenomenal job. Jen, you did such a fantastic job just moving your characters around. I remember when I first got my PS4 (just so I could play this game) I had the WORST time making them go the directions I wanted them to. I had a really hard time getting the buttons right and I didn't have anyone with experience to help me, unfortunately. But you did great, and Holden didn't have to help you all that much, really.
Annie Wersching was the face model and voice for Tess in the game. Unfortunately, Annie passed away from cancer on the same day that the HBO show's episode 3, "Long, Long Time" aired. She was in a lot of shows, most recently Star Trek: Picard. But I remember her most from 24 with Keifer Sutherland. She was an incredible actress as well as a wife and mother of 3 children.

I love watching people who have hardly ever or never played games, start to play and learn the ropes. It’s funny how there are things you just know from gaming for so long and muscle memory for little things, like Holden said those things we take for granted because they just come so naturally to people who continuously played games throughout their life. Like the joy sticks, I never realized it would be difficult or jarring to move both at the same time. I’m looking forward to the point she gets to where she doesn’t have to look at the controller and gets smoother with the controls. She’s doing really good already though, much better than some I’ve tried to teach.
