How is it that the surf and swell is nearly always bigger than it looks from the shore ?!
This sequence shows me heading out through some surf and side chop that looks fairly hectic but, apparently, does not give me any stability trouble in my Swordfish. Well, it doesn’t until I turn around and head back in. Suddenly, absent the restraining and stabilising impact of the friction from the incoming swell, I am at sixes and sevens. Lesson: stability is situational and there is a huge difference between heading out and heading back in !
    Subscription Story:
Once the channel hits 1000 subscribers, which should be soon, the channel will start earning $, the first 1000 USD per month of which, is committed to the NSRI.
The Channel will need to be somewhere between x10 and x100 bigger to be earning that sort of money per month but every $ for the NSRI counts !
The channel has over 7000 cumulative watch hours which is 3000 more than the 4000 requirement. Had the channel had 1000 subscribers from 6 months ago, it would already have earned circa 3000 U$D or nearly ZAR 60 000.00 for the NSRI !

Heading back in; I think that as soon as bow is digging in, the following wave grabs the rudder. It is then a fight whether you broach or get yanked over. Even small waves can do this, it is steepness of the waves that is the main factor.
Heading out; your video shows some of the sudden drag you get once over the top of the wave. Brings you to a halt, then it is a struggle to get any steerage way before the next crest comes.
    Good fun, I miss it.

usually I turn off sound to watch great surfski videos. The soundtracks rarely work with my music tastes (which are odd i admit). The subtitles I can't remove and it ruins great footage. Tapping out Richard until the preaching going away. I wanna hear the waves and the wind after a long day at work! Great waves though. wish I lived in warmer climate at times.

Absolutely scary and exciting at the same time.
    Which FENN model is that?

hi Tommasco, that ski is the latest version of the Fenn Swordfish in hybrid layup. Whilst I am stable in it in these conditions, I am not sufficiently stable in it in downwind conditions and so my new regular DW ski is the Boost Low Volume (shown in my most recent videos). Where do you paddle ?

@@ForbesRichard i'm quite new for surfski and i'm from Northern Italy. Obviously here we have waves completely different from yours (especially in height) but not so distant in terms of difficulty because their period is very short: normally from 2 till 4 seconds.
My record, in terms of height is 2meters.
Here in Italy surfskiers are very rare and i usually meet people on the beaches asking me what is that...
I come from 13 years of k1 but i fell in love for surfski randomly.
My first surfski was a SIPRE 575 but a few months ago i change it for a more stable SIPRE 525 because i want to have a ski in which i can feel comfortable quite in every conditions.
But it's only 5.25 meters long and the difference is big.
      But it's a good ski.
Consider that i usually go out alone, 12 months per year and i'm learning by myself.
      It's not easy.
And videos like yours are very useful...
      Thanks
