Wonderful montage! Brought back a lot of memories, and suddenly I saw my whole life as a slice of time. I would love to get some feedback on this one photo of our teachers at 12:45 marker.
I can identify some of them, could I get some help on this folks? Going Left to Right...
Row 1: X, X, Miss Cox (Vice Principal), Miss Dorothy Lawrence, X, X
Row 2: Mrs Greene (what was her first name?), X, X, X, X, Ela Roy, X, Mrs Sinha, X, Freni Ray, Lynette Shaw.
Row 3: X, Mrs Hennessy (PT Sports), Mrs Matthews (Math), Miss Wilhelmina DaSilva (Music)
Miss Lawrence had a lot of class and a stately comportment.
Miss Cox reminded me of a quick and agile bird in her movements.
Mrs Greene once looked at my handwriting and said I would become a writer. And yes, I write well.
Mrs Ela Roy was our beloved Biology teacher. Quiet, soft spoken, mild mannered, and dearly loved.
Mrs Sinha would attempt to teach us Hindi. I was hopeless at Hindi, so I had to tidy up her embroidery basket during class. Made no attempt to tutor me. Sadly.
Mrs Hennessy was our robust athletics teacher. Worked us hard at PE and most excuses were discarded and girls made to work out inside or outside. A very no nonsense person.
Mrs Matthews had a heavy South Indian accent, and we made fun of it, along with Mrs Narasinha (is she in this photo?). 'Yif Yem = Yen, then..."! She was very good natured and dedicated.
Miss DaSilva - what can I say about this teacher, I adored her! She wore pencil A-line skirts that hugged her figure and contours, high heel shoes, and a modern coiffure. She had poise and grace, and played the piano and sang. She would listen to your voice and pick you for parts on stage. When she got married she changed her name to DaSouza and I felt so betrayed. I loved the tinkly sound of DaSilva so much. She once brought over her little girl to the school cafeteria and said, 'Come along, urchin'. I was so sad when she left for Australia and Mrs Gazdar replaced her. Mrs Gazdar was roly poly and had no style and worked us in choir mercilessly.
13:09 - #77- that is Wendy Walters, older sister to Fenella Walters. Emigrated to Australia. Wendy was excellent in sports.
13:44 - Wendy Walters is #10. Next to her is Mr Mullick, our sports coach. One day someone challenged Mr Mullick to a high jump. He set the pole to an impossible height over his own head. Then ran up and effortlessly vaulted over it, his body landing on hard sand. Incredible!
14:11 - 2nd row 3rd from Left is Fenella Walters (my class) and just above her is Wendy Walters all round athlete and head of Martin House I think.
