  • On October 4, 1997, the world witnessed an event unprecedented in our nation’s history. Over 1.4 million men descended on Washington, D.C., and gathered on the National Mall.
For six hours, these men prayed for their nation. They prayed for their families. They confessed their sins. They prayed that God would act mightily in their lives, and that they would have the courage to stand in the gap.
This incredible event was known as “Stand in the Gap,” and in honor of its 25th anniversary, we’re producing a new documentary looking back at the day the lives of thousands of men were changed forever.
It’s time to share Stand in the Gap with the next generation.
Watch the documentary and then join us in the new Promise Keepers Community App (free on Google Play and Apple App Store) for bonus footage, relive the teachings from the original Stand in the Gap event, and participate in an all-new study connecting the body of Christ across generational, denominational, and geographical lines.
The documentary includes: Current Promise Keepers Chairman Ken Harrison, Former Promise Keepers Presidents Randy Phillips and Raleigh Washington, Dr. Tony Evans, A.R. Bernard, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, former staff, stories from men and families whose lives were changed through Stand in the Gap, and more!
Visit the website promisekeepers.org to join our email list or dive into the Promise Keepers Men's Community free on Apple App Store and Google Play.

I'll be watching tomorrow. Not only was I there, but 10/4/97 was the day of my salvation! I am so grateful for what God did on that day 25 years ago and in the subsequent days, weeks, months and years. I was ordained as a pastor in 2007 and have been an Army Chaplain since 2008. The Lord has a plan and a purpose for his faithful believers and I believe He is not finished with His church or our nation which, despite our shortcomings, has been a force for good around the world. God bless you brothers!

I was there, front and center. No protests, complaints, or arguments. We came to pray, and pray we did. We apologized to every group of peoples, beginning with home. Then went home and lived it out. Time to do it again, 2027 or sooner! I have digitized footage from the night before.

I remember. I was 16yrs old. These feminists came through the crown protesting the event. I was so confused. My dad and uncle went to rededicate their lives to Jesus and these women turned it into a political thing. Things haven’t changed. I will never forget worshipping alongside my dad at this event. He’s with Jesus now. PK changed his life. Thankful!

I went from our church in Brighton Michigan on bus that broke down in Ohio and within minutes another bus stopped and they said we are going to Washington DC too, come and join us. Everyone that nite was headed to Stand in the Gap! My 2 son-in-loves met me there coming from Kentucky and another church in Michigan and we love it.
Then as a result of our involvement, a Missionary friend, Jim Foote, with Footprints International in Siberia showed the film of the event to a number of Russian Christian women and they came to Cornerstone EP Church in Brighton and asked if men could come and share our love for Jesus Christ to their men and encourage them to attend church with the wives! We went as the Siberian 7 and shared with well over 300 the love of Jesus and our testimony.

What I loved about Promise Keepers was the diversity and the unity that was created. I attended the one at the Coliseum in L.A. and hearing such epic speakers like Bishop Kenneth Ulmer and John C. Maxwell. It was lifechanging and so glad that I attended before I was married. I miss that we didn't keep this movement going. We needed so much in this era.

A precious memory from that day was in the subway station returning to the bus. A police officer wearing a bicycle helmet was standing on a platform above us. We were a sea of men singing praises to God while tears were streaming down the officer’s face. What a beautiful thing to witness! I wish I had a picture of that scene.

After wandering for many years without any direction or purpose the Lord got a hold of my heart in 1996 in my bedroom when I cried out to Him after struggling with suicidal thoughts. The next few moments changed my life as I felt His loving presence all over my body and realized that He was real and really did love me. Shortly thereafter I attended my first PK event in the Orange Bowl in 1996 and walked down with hundreds of other men and giving my life to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The following year, I brought my closest friend to the Stand in the Gap event where we both were humbled to see so many desperate men who needed Jesus. I will never forget the speakers, the men singing and praying together as it was life changing. The following year I met my wife on an airplane coming back to Miami from San Francisco and we've now been married 22 years. In 2002, after leading a few bible studies at my home, I got involved in a ministry that helps men and women who have been homeless leading many to Christ. I ended up attending 11 straight PK Events bringing many other men to them. There's so much more but all I know is that "God is good all the time and all the time, God is Good!".

After 22 years roaming the desert, PK brought me back to my Lord & Savior. Stand in the Gap was an unbelievable experience, thank you for helping me relive it. Now if only a spark would happen in all the men who were so on fire for God in those days, but who have since lost the love & passion for Christ and grown lukewarm. May God revive us again!

What an awesome event that day 25 years ago. Me and a number of other men from our congregation were at the base of Washington's Monument crying out to God. When we each pulled out pics and wrote notes re: our wives and children it was a very moving time in the Spirit. I am weeping tears of joy for what all the Lord has done through this one event . . . Stand in the Gap '97. But I am also weeping tears of sadness that there are only 5.,546 views on this documentary thus far. What are we viewing men? What are we "liking?" Stand firm and count yourselves men. For the Lord our God is with us.

Stand in the Gap helped solidify my personal faith in Jesus Christ. The only PK event I attended was Stand in the Gap in the last century. It was wonderful to be with other men of like faith form different denominations in such a large gathering. Then repenting all day long of our sins and America's sin was so inspiring. I need to get my photographs out and scan and post them in this celebration of "Look what God has done!"

US and UK lost their power, might, strength, dignity, respect and economy by mingling with eastern witch people (and started to embracing eastern devilish ways).
The truth are, ALMIGHTY LORD JESUS CHRIST abandoned these western countries (indirectly all crisis (natural calamities, tragedies, economy downfalls and criminality) gripped these english countries).

I was there with a group of guys from the Portland, ME area. We set up stage left next to the porta potties (it got a little stinky as the day drew on). My greatest memory was not around anything that happened on the mall but on the stairs leading down to the subways as we were leaving. The sound of thousands of men singing hymns echoed up from underground and was absolutely amazing to experience (who knew that subway acoustics could sound so good?!). I have no doubt that, although we have drifted as a nation. the prayers, repentance, and worship offered that day 25 years ago is still reverberating in heaven and in the ears of God. And he will remember us - and heal our land.

Watched on TV - my son was 11 days away from entering the world (he did not provide an itinerary). But PK and that day in particular was absolutely instrumental as I sought to be a Godly dad to my now-grown kids. All of whom are committed believers, along with their spouses. I give tons of credit to PK for helping me chart a course in my goal to be a dad who would point my kids to Christ. Although yes, the subsequent 25 years have been a time of ups and downs for PK from me view in the cheap seats, there is absolutely no disputing that there are three young people in their 20's who bear witness to the legacy of PK in general and stand in the gap in particular. Blessings all -

I remember the trip from Northeast Ohio by bus, and praying, arriving in suburban Maryland hundreds of men walking to the commuter railway and singing praise songs and hymns as we moved toward Washington D.C., and arriving at the Mall near the Washington Monument, thousands of men worshiping and responding to the PK speakers, preachers with prayer warriors, proclaiming the LORD JESUS CHRIST. I recall praying, prostrate on the grass, asking the LORD for forgiveness for my sin and seeking wisdom from the WORD of GOD. Remembering the words some of my favorite Bible teachers, Joe Stowell and Tony Evans sharing the Gospel. The “Stand in the Gap” theme was so relevant to the condition of the 🇺🇸 United States of America that desperately needed to acknowledge ✝️JESUS as Savior and LORD.

    • @77kingdomkids

My story started before the event. I was part of the leadership team in Miami and the pastor that we chose to lead the choir for the Miami events received a call from PK. They asked him if he wanted to be in the stand in the gap choir. He was overjoyed and PK told him he could bring with him 4-5 men who had sung in the choirs to join him. We are friends so he called me and ask me to join him. Because of my leadership responsibilities with PK, I didn't sing in any of the choirs, and the men he had to choose from had to have sung in the choir at one of the events. That counted me out! I was going any way to the event. My wife and I flew out to Washington several days ahead of time to spend some time with family before the event. I was already in DC when I received the call from my friend asking if I wanted to still sing in the choir and available for the rehearsal. This is what happened, a few days before the event my friend gets a call asking if he knew of some men who could sing in the choir because a tragedy that happened to a worship pastor from another city. He was meeting at his church with his men to travel to DC to sing in the choir. That early morning the church was robbed, and all of the men were killed! So, I get a call from my pastor friend to ask if I still wanted to be a part of the choir. I was saddened but overjoyed at the opportunity! Without knowing it I had brought with me the exact color pants and shoes that was required for the men in the choir!! God put me in the choir with that amazing view from the platform of all these men of God! Wow!!
