Yes. When the TH-cam video says 3;10 instead of 3;25 you know it's been played wrong, imo. When played faster it's "prettier" but loses some of the poignance that makes this one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed.
If you lasted 4 minutes (or more) people could get tired, and the song may sound heavy. I do think the average time one can do playing this is 3:40 - 4 mins.
Yup! I used to play them all on piano, and now I play the first Gnossienne on harp too. Beautiful pieces, I think I actually prefer them to the Gymnopedies.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much from Vancouver Island, where I first heard Liona Boyd play her arrangement of this for guitar. How beautifully you play!
Actually my harp has 7 pedals! But they're for changing key, not for changing the timbre like on the piano. One pedal for each note, each pedal has 3 positions: sharp, natural and flat. Each time you change key, you have to use your feet. I started out as a pianist, and I found both instruments to be challenging in different ways.
I actually have that stupid Top Shot commercial to thank. I tried to shazam it, but it wouldn't find a match. So after thinking all hope was lost, I did some serious googling, I tried every combination of words just to find this piece. That work finally paid off.
Thank you for this video! This is my favorite song and it sounds amazing on a harp. And you played it at the correct speed, which makes all the difference!
Beautiful arrangement I love this piece by Satie Gymnopedie 1. You are truly a pretty and talented lady. Keep performing and play beautiful music our world needs it through all the chaos. Thank you!
for a person like me who has heard this many times, has played piano for 15 years and having played it myself & who has seen many versions of this song, I must say you are practically flawless. Thank you for your wounderful playing!
Oh. I really did not know that.... but that is really cool! I took piano lessons when i was 7 but i always found it challenging because i could never play o things at once. Its the same for the harp.
ahhhhh thank you so much for uploading this! i'm actually trying to learn this on the harp right now, and this is being a big help! and the way you played it was beautiful Cx
Must be a nightmare carrying that around. You would have to put it in a mini and tow the mini with a Land Rover. Can't think any other logical transportation method. Damn nice playing
I agree ! And as the Gnosiennes have an oriental aspect in them (if I am not mistaken, the same intervals as makam hijaz), this version by Sarband is my favourite. You can find it on youtube "Ensemble Sarband Satie en Orient Gnosienne no 1. I am not allowed to type the URL.
Beautiful sound on harp, I´ve always heard Satie either on piano or guitar. Now harp :) and I am also learning to play Gymnopedie No 1 on musical saw :D
I can't put in words the beauty of it... i was looking for the better version to show my friends this piece and found this... and all i can say is: amazing! =~~~
is there an apartment available for rent below yours☺?
My piano teacher says it should be played so slow it hurts....

+Carlos Mendoza last* sorry
Erick Satie had this particular reason why it should be played slow...it is the nature of the song...melancholic...enigmatic...
Yup! I used to play them all on piano, and now I play the first Gnossienne on harp too. Beautiful pieces, I think I actually prefer them to the Gymnopedies.
This is one of my favorite songs, and to hear it played on the harp brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful.
I still come back to listen to your rendition after all these years later :)
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much from Vancouver Island, where I first heard Liona Boyd play her arrangement of this for guitar. How beautifully you play!

2009. God that was such a long time ago. Nice year. For me anyway.
I actually have that stupid Top Shot commercial to thank. I tried to shazam it, but it wouldn't find a match. So after thinking all hope was lost, I did some serious googling, I tried every combination of words just to find this piece. That work finally paid off.

I wish I played the harp, but cello and viola is good enough for me. :-)
I'll never get tired of Saties Gymnopedies : really moody on the harp ! Well done! Do you play Satie's Gnosiennes ?
Great job!
Great Work.
Would you please share what arrangement this is? You play beautifully. Thank you.
Karen Shelton she is possibly just playing the real piano score since harps use bass and treble clef.
