Thanks guys. It's an homage. I hope that this century mandolin gets played and enjoyed by generations of music lovers. The value is in the playing and the stories as much as in the skill and dedication of the guys who build them.
One of my favorite albums is Grisman's Tone Poets where he and a bunch of other mandolin aces played his Loyd Loar 'Crusher'. It's amazing how different it sounds in different hand.
I know this special instrument is in good hands.

Definitely worth the price tag when you consider the tone, and the relic work is amazing- looks like the real deal!!

Special look, special sound. Kind of reminds you of Willie Nelson's "Trigger".

Rumor has it that Gibson is also considering the sale of a 200 pieces kit version of this mandolin just as it was discovered after it was skilfully disassembled by the unnamed person who dropped into Mr. Monroe’s home that special day. The kit would also come with an artificially aged fire poker.

I had a chance to play #1 and 10 from Mitch Meadors. Both are consistent with each other and slaw slingers.

Great episode. I'm with you guys: A great instrument is meant to be heard, not seen.

Excellent, and of COURSE I covet covet covet that beauty. Tuners - I would have put Waverly in place of the Grover, myself. The plates and longer shafts on the Grover spoil the look for me. On price: Nobody bats an eyelid when talking about violins and their huge price tags. I would argue that an F5 requires at least as many if not more hours of labor to produce. Anyone?

Modern Waverly tuners are junk. I’ve sent back three sets of guitar tuners because they wouldn’t turn. Grovers all the way.
As far as price no manufacturer makes that many mandolins. They make guitars by the multiple thousands every year.
Custom made mandos are even worse because they serve a very limited market. I wonder how many mandolins vs. guitars Eastman produces

That's pretty sad on the Waverly's. I've had quite a few over the years and they were great. I had a custom D18 built that I just got in June. I had Waverly's put on it even though I had heard some criticisms as of late. I'm still undecided about them totally. I don't think they tune as well as the old ones did though. @@pmscalisi

Who would have thunk that the legacy of a barber shop mandolin would reach this pinnacle...amazing.. combine the engineering wizardry of Lloyd Loar and the God talent of Mr. Monroe and you make history..Good Job Gibson..
Too bad only the privileged can afford one....

This one is the only HOF signed on July 9th 2023. 100 years to the day, after Monroe's. That makes it one-of-a-kind.
