Thanks for the review! My impression was the game is designed to be a 2 part game and as such it is should be very rare for the Nazgul to win outright in part 1, is that incorrect? My impression was the Nazgul are trying to stack as much corruption as possible in part 1 to set up their victory in part 2
Man Joel, your videos have greatly improved since last I stopped by your channel. It looks soooooo good! Cheers man. Not many people have published many videos on this amazing game, and especially not the second part of the game. I have this game pre-ordered. Was hoping to have this for Christmas, and am very excited to finally play this. Thanks Joel for showing this off. Great job!
Thanks Joel for this video! This has been high on my list since I saw Richard Ham/Rahdo cover it. It will be great for our game group. We've wanted to play Fury O.D. but it's OP now and sounds like this is even better and I love the LOR IP.
He must have taken it down bc he went on about it at length and I don't want that many board game channels and LOR is one of Jen's favorite IPs and after he talked about it then I put it on my BGG wish list and have been waiting for it ever since.
Great review, and I'm excited to have a hidden movement game that my wife will play - that doesn't involve a specifically horror and/or violence against women theme. Should be playing our copy for the first time soon... maybe this weekend.
It's not designed to be 2 different games - it's 2 parts of a single game. The Nazgul aren't supposed to be able to fully corrupt deodorant in just 1 chapter!
Definitely. I mentioned that in a comment here. However, it's certainly possible for the Nazgul to do so. One would just have to bump the difficulty up from the start and it would be possible.
Well sure, if you add some house rule to make it more difficult for Frodo then of course they can. But even the suggested difficulties are designed to work with the full game not just half. And both your review and some of your comments seem to treat them as separate games e.g. you don't want to try part 2 until the Nazgul win part 1. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you did this review and I usually really like your reviews. And this review still has some useful information. But in this one it's seems a shame you didn't play the whole game as designed from start to finish. The second half looks like it plays significantly differently because you no longer control Frodo, but Gandalf instead. So, it seems more like this should be a 'first impressions' than a full review.
Agreed, and that's important to note. I guess I just think it's a shame you didn't hold off until you had played the whole thing from start to finish. Because I'd have liked to know what you thought of the whole game, not just the first half. I like hearing your thoughts and opinions, and would have preferred a slightly more thorough treatment. But I appreciate that reviewing games these days is becoming a more and more time-intensive job. Sometimes you just need to go ahead and put a review out accepting you maybe haven't played it as much as would be ideal, or even as much as you would like. If you do get chance to play it right through, an updated 'final thoughts' video would be great. Especially if that happens before it's actually released. But if you don't get chance, no worries! And overall, just to be clear, I'd like to thank you for doing this channel and congratulate you on a job well done. The fact I'd have liked this one to have been a bit more comprehensive doesn't detract from all your great work. Your Game of Thrones review I found particularly useful - it's a game waiting to be opened this Xmas! (kinda instead of Hunt for the Ring, since it was delayed yet again!). Cheers and have a great Xmas!
Actually not the fan of the ring fellowship but this game actually very good, you made a very good review , i will think about buying it, someone already wrote about tokens so need to repeat beside it everything well done :)))
Haha... been there. Interesting note though... I talked about it in my review too, but apparently I was on to something. If you just play Part 1 alone you want to bump the difficulty up for Frodo. The default seems to be meant to be played over the course of both games.
Drive Thru Review oh ok, this game sounds great, Im a huge fan of both War of the Ring, and Battle of five armies, guess I'll have to get this ASAP for that LOTR itch
Bless you, stranger, for putting a time mark at "final thoughts and review"! If everybody could do like you.
You explained this game very well, and your excitement passed over to me. I want this game so much to play before War of the Ring!
AGREED
I've heard some complaints about the rulebook. What did you think? I didn't have an issue deciphering it.
Don't recall exactly... I think I struggled with one or two things, but that was mostly because I'm a dummy.

Mike Gregoire Ya seems to be the “core” way to play. However you can bump up the difficulty and I think a Part 1 Nazghul victory is possible.
After reading the rulebook, I agree. It is not two games, it is a game in two parts. Short demos and the novelty of it seem to be throwing people off.

Jarrad Shaw Thanks Jarrad.

Where/when did Richard Ham cover The Hunt for the Ring?
He must have taken it down bc he went on about it at length and I don't want that many board game channels and LOR is one of Jen's favorite IPs and after he talked about it then I put it on my BGG wish list and have been waiting for it ever since.
I assume you have a preview copy? I cannot find this game anywhere.
That's correct. Looks like the release has been pushed back to January now.
Thank you.
Great review and now def a game I will pick up. I was on the fence originally but no longer!
Glad to hear it. Hope you enjoy!

I have never said that Minis were a reason for me to want a game. That changes now, man those sculpts look good.
Only thing I see I would miss from The Fury of Dracula would be combat.
Can we move from location to location in 1 turn, skipping dots, or must we use a dot as a move?
Stu R Gotta use the dots
Wow! Never thought this game would be for me but it looks really cool! Definitely looks to have some of the mechanisms of games from its heritage.

Orion3T I mean sure. I was clear about how much I played it. But, that's not a house rule. It comes right from the rulebook on adjusting difficulty.
Agreed, and that's important to note.

No worries. I appreciate the feedback. This game is a bit of an odd duck to. I've never seen a two-part game before. Merry Christmas!
I actually liked the music at the end of your video.
Thanks for the review! I might need to pick this up.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Finally a review. So excited. Thanks!
Tamidor Windtaenzer Enjoy! Thanks!

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and hope it is a healthy and safe one.
Douglas Pearson Thank you Douglas. Merry Christmas!

What about the tokens for war of the ring?
I didn't show them. Sorry about that. They give you bonus actions for like drawing cards and moving the political tracks in War of the Ring.
Drive Thru Review thanks for description.
Sure thing!
This game sounds fantastic! I like the idea of tokens you can use in War of the Ring, as well. :-) Very cool!
so why haven't you tried the other side of the board?
Ryan Heckel Sorry thought I was clear. I want the Nazghul to win once first! :)
Drive Thru Review ok that makes sense, i was watching ur review while my 2 year old wanted to play peek a boo. Thanks for the reply

Hi, thanks for the review. What's the youngest age do you think a kid could play Hunt for the Ring?
Depends on the child, but.... I'm guessing around 10-11 range (give or take).
Thank you
oh man I'm so excited for this game!
It's on sale on Amazon for about $30 right now if anyone here hasn't tried it yet
Great video! I've already told my FLGS to call me as soon as this is in!
Jack Gibson Awesome. Thank you. Hope you enjoy!
you kick ass, man.
Hah. Thank you sir.
Windowelth? Sounds like orc mischief to me.
Thanks!
This looks like a great game!
