  • For more detailed information I recommend "line painter" on youtube, he is far more advanced. This is just something to get you started that way you can get an idea of how and what to do.

I lay out smaller jobs by myself. I took a metal .50 cal ammo can and installed an eye hook on the narrow end as close to the bottom as possible. I filled it 3/4 full with concrete. This leaves 1/4 empty for chalk, pencils, lines, etc. I painted it orange so I could see it and hopefully not leave it when done. Great channel, Chris.

This is a good way to do it, I use a bucket of paint when I go out to hold my chalk lines and tapes.

In Framing(Carpentry) what your calling a Birds Eye, is actually referred to as a Crows foot(feet)..

If you didn't have the original lines there you would still need to make sure that you're square and straight

The front wheel of your striper works very well, and it's mobile. Just place the line under the front wheel and continue doing so on each line. You can also do longer stretches this way. The cinder block does work. I just prefer the machine

Why did you do 20' instead of 18' ?
I made a dummy helper by using a milk crate that I had in the garage. I bolted a piece of 1x2 across the back of it and put a 2x2 on the bottom from the front to the back for support. Then put an eye bolt on the outside screwed into the 1x2. I take this and put it on my 2 wheel dolly and attach it with a bungee cord and put a couple bricks in it for weight. Then just wheel it around the lot for doing string lines. I can hook my string line or long line rope onto the eye bolt then run the line however far I need. If I need the dolly for something else I just remove the crate. It also make sit nice to be able to store a tape measure along with extra railroad chalk in it.

Hey Chris I gotta ask you, why do you put your cross hatching in that direction? Is it code to put in in from right to left? Because I would think that putting them from left to right makes the job go smoothly. Let me know your thoughts about that

I e never had a code enforcement person complain about my layouts. That’s always how I do them. I’m not aware of a code that says what directions the hash needs to be I do know there is a minimum width that it needs to be on the cross hatch.
But some guys hold their municipalities standards to everyone else and some may be different than others, little things. Like how Florida is for example. But at the end of the day. I just make content. I don’t know about other states . In my state I’ve never gotten a code violation for how I do new layouts.
But there are a lot of guys way way more skilled than me. I just film the content i hope this helps.
      Much love.❤️

@@TheStripingGuy bro I love your content! Don't stop making it! I was just wondering if I missed something. I have been stripping parking lots, roads and warehouses for about 8 years and I'm just now trying to start up my own striping business. So I was taught to put the hatches going the other way. Main reason being that you won't have to drive over you paint when constructing the X-hatch itself. Just something that saves a decent amount of time and takes equal or less effort from the way you already do it. Maybe I can send you a video of what I'm talking about. Sometimes I'm confusing!! 🤣🤣 I'm out of Kansas City by the way!

If I get it I’m going to do a video on how I got it with that estimate.
