Flight Bag Leather Laptop Bag Briefcase Explained

  • Inspired by old school Gladstone bags, this is Saddleback's take on a leather laptop bag briefcase with a solid hinged opening. This is how they kept bags shut tight before zippers were invented. Also inspired by the flight bags carried by pilots, who need a bag that stays wide open for quick access in the tight quarters of a cockpit.

    Hello from Alaska!
    Sir, in my opinion you are missing three important things... water bottle and radio/transmitter pockets in the outside and a sleeve/strap in the back of the bag to secure it to your carry on bag while walking in the airport. I think that if you add this three convenient accessories the rest is there! I will like to see how much space a set of A20 bose headset takes out of the bag. I will like to see a dedicated compartment for the headset as well or at least a strap in the inside of the bag to hang them securely. I think you might have designed more of a messenger bag instead of a Pilot bag. I will like to see a bag actually dedicated for pilots in general not air transport pilots only (ATP). Thanks for the video and please let me know if you are able to add this accessories to the bag, I will pay for a custom bag if you are interested. I love the quality of your leather and the craftsmanship you put into every job!

    You’re kill’n me, Dave! I waited, looked, and saved up 6 months to buy one of your briefcases. And got the thin front pocket last month. I LOVE it except I HATE that the top flap comes too far down the front. I have to CONSTANTLY open and close the top flap every time I want to get something out of the front pockets. Ironic this was announced today because I was thinking about sending you a video demo TODAY and suggest you shorten the top flap, a simple way to fix the design flaw. Granted, I know you can’t think of everything every time. So I guess I’ll order this one and put mine on eBay. Love ya buddy! Charlie Pitkin.
    Update: I just noticed it doesn’t have the backpack straps or D rings. Nuts. That’s a deal killer. Well, as The Rolling Stones say, You can’t always get what you want! I’ll just get better and faster at opening that top flap! But I am going to convince my Dad this is the perfect bag for him, because it is.
    P.s. My Wednesday morning men’s breakfast club just decided this week to read The Reason for God together. Looking forward to it!

      I was thinking about the front flap and even though I hate to open it and close it constantly it also offers you a protection of the hidden pockets that otherwise you don't have in this new bag... hum....

    I use the canvas briefcase for a flight bag. You don’t want to be fiddling with buckles while flying. The pad eye closure would be perfect on this leather application. On my other saddleback products I ditch the buckles and install AustriAlpin for a no nonsense opening and closing experience.

    • @troyfromearth
      @troyfromearth 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      These look great but how exactly do you go about installing them? Do you have to remove stitching?

    • @PumpUptheJam81
      @PumpUptheJam81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cut and loop the leather through the buckle and then rivet and stitch. I have my local shoe cobbler do the work since you need a very robust machine.

    • @H_Nala
      @H_Nala 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PumpUptheJam81 hey there- any chance you'd be open to sharing what the finished product looks like? what you're describing sounds like the best of both worlds (classic leather design with contemporary hardware). I agree the loops & buckles don't seem to be the most convenient.

    For air travel, a flight bag should be shorter so you can slide it under the seat in front of you while still upright. Right now you have to lay it on its side...odd.
