I got put off using colouring books because the one that I was using had really thin paper and it was a struggle trying to get anything to blend, it's great that they make books now with heavier paper that can handle more ❤✨
I picked up the Springheel paper months ago based on your recommendation and it's so good for my Prismacolor and NeoColor pieces. I love how if I go very lightly I can use the tooth of the paper to create textures -- it makes fabrics and trees pop. Also I'm going to picking up the Crayola set soon so I can try all of those unique colors. So appreciative of your hard work on your channel to show us all of these materials in action.
Can you do a video on how to copy & print coloring book pages…. I am assuming that you have to have a printer with a scanner ?? I do graphics as a full time job, so that’s where I am coming from…. At home I love to do mixed media, as well as coloring books, being a graphics person I don’t have the shading knowledge so I love your tutorials for that. But I love watercolor pencils the most & the maria tolle books the best but they buckle with light water. I am still learning. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you for this Pamela! 💜
My personal preferences, at the moment anyways... (retyping some of this from live chat)
Preprinted books - Basford's books, her Artist's Edition books have the best paper by far. They hold up to alcohol markers in addition to pencils. The regular books are great, but wish they were single sided.
Papers to scan and print, or for original work - I lean towards medium to heavy weight papers, no lighter than a drawing paper weight, usually mixed media or watercolor papers. I like a light to medium texture for pencil work. I don't seem to get the results I want if the paper is too smooth. I love to play with different color papers.
Strathmore 400 Colored Pencil paper
Strathmore 300 Bristol - vellum finish if mostly pencil, smooth finish if mostly ink/watercolor
Grumbacher Mixed Media (sold at Walmart) "medium texture" just enough tooth for pencil work, 160 gsm is a good weight for heavy layering. I like the books that are bound so you can remove pages to work and reinsert when you're done.
Canson Mi-Teintes - paper has a fine grain side and a honeycomb grain side, many colors
Strathmore 400 Artagain, several colors
Stonehenge Aqua Black watercolor - very dark black, very toothy, takes a bit of work and is a little delicate (especially with tape), but great with artist quality pencils with softer leads especially blending with Gamsol
This video is so helpful! Thank you for explaining paper in an easy to understand way. I appreciate the time that went into this!
Returning to this video again and I’m finding different information this time. So useful and many thanks.
Great information, thank you
I hope you will be sharing your flutter color page! 🧚♀️ I love multimedia!! 🥰
I enjoy the Strathmore Artagain black paper 400 series. It allows the right amount of paper to show through for my style (I tend to to use short strokes, in between Monet's jabs and van Gogh's long long lines). You need fairly opaque pencils for black paper, the cheaper pencils I have tried do not work well, I go with Prisma.
Very informative video!! 👏👏 I should rewatch it with a pen and note pad. The combo of pencils and coloring books is the hardest part for me to grasp. I'm still a hard colorist, and prismas tremble when I get near them. I don't have the black widows or the brutfunner squares, but I, of course, have Crayolas. I have Arteza and Kalour. I haven't gotten into my starjoys or castle art yet(Kalours took a bit). I just wonder if I need to do a leafy page with 3 greens of each brand I have and compare how I feel they go down. 🍃 I would need to label the brands with pencils so I can remember what I did on each leaf, lol!! 🤣 I don't know how you keep it all straight!! 🤦♀️
I just bought a set of Brutfunner squares for both my folks and myself. I quite like them so far. The only weird thing is sharpening them. A standard sharpener is too narrow. What works best so far is to use an oversized hand sharpener and just be gentle. I bought a lumber pencil sharpener from Lowes for my shop and tried it on a whim, actually works really well, got some awesome wood curls from the pencils when a different sharpener tried to just chew through the pencil.
What is the weight of the spring hill paper I think I got the wrong one

Hi my name is Dee I am from NZ love ur blog s cool. 😇❤️😇
How do I search Amazon for a KDP printed books? BTW... I like watching your videos. Thank-you for sharing ❤❤
What would be a good paper for swatching my pencil collection?
The Springhill paper. There should be a link for it in most all my videos. It's wonderful for swatching and copying PDF coloring pages to color.
Which weight do you recommend for that Springhill paper?
I like the 80 lb paper but have both the 80 on and 67 lb.
Does this mean all coloring books bought on amazon, are printed by amazon on different paper than if purchased elsewhere?
Is cream paper good for coloring?
Is cream paper one you're referring to that you saw in this video? You can really color on any lighter colored paper and a lot of them add a lot to your coloring pages. Some even make certain colors stand out even more and really pop off the page.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils ok, thank you! I could not make out if pages are cream or it is just lighting making white pages look cream. Are the pages in your books cream?
When I want to use alcohol markers in an Amazon book because the Amazon paper bleeds very easily
I bought this beautiful little hardcover flower coloring book with colored flower prints on one side of the page, and an uncolored copy of the flower on the other side of the page. The pages are nice and thick - BUT HAVE NO TOOTH TO THE PAPER!!!
Why do these dumb coloring book manufacturers DO THIS RETARDED CRAP??? Most of my colored pencils won't even LAY ON THIS PAPER!!!! I can barely get my Schpirrer Farben's to lay down and blend properly!!! My Prismacolors won't even lay and blend!!! My Faber Castell Goldfarbens won't either! I can't even use my Lyra Rembrandts either!!
If you're going to publish a damn coloring book, it only takes about an hour or two to research the best overall paper type for most oil and wax based pencils!! Why are companies and corporations in general so incompetent and crooked nowadays???? They all just want to make the cheapest crap wile charging the most they can without paying workers nothing, and while paying no taxes either!!
I'm SICK OF THEM ALL!!!
