I loved his last video for "Go" and I love this one too. The whole song is like a lesson in how a great drummer utilizes rudiments with steady tempo control to really make it feel as if it's building and changing while he's really just riding the pocket and making small tweaks to give the song direction. The song sounds so easy and is easy to count but it's the performance that makes it shine. Coleman just has this effortless groove that is so simple it's seductive. How can you not love this?
His drumming is so tasteful. As a non-drummer, a lot of the time I can feel that a drummer is showing off his skills. With Coleman, I know that what he's doing is crazy technically, but I don't feel that he's showing off, taking over the song. Instead, I feel that his drumming elevates the song. That's the genius of his skills.
He made a statement the moment this song came out. This is the guy to watch.

Chris is a beast. Incredible technique. I just love watching him make his way around the kit.
How is he interacting with the crowd while laying some complex fills at 10000mph? I love everything about this performance.
You play drums for as long as this amazing dude has and it becomes an implicit skill; second nature if you will. Smiling is easy cause this beast of a player is on autopilot essentially.

Every single time I see this man work I tear up. This song in particular holds emotional value for me somehow. The original Meinl studio video of this is equally brilliant!
I love coming from a Matt Halpern video about cymbal technique and how to preserve cymbals (swiping across more or less) and then watching this beast of a man hammer arm every cymbal he hits. Love this dude's power and control, inspirational.

Playing on a small cb700 kit on the Venus beach guitar shop. My mother paid for drum lessons at 8 yrs old and I refused cause I hot frustrated with the teacher. 8 yrs later I buy myself a slingerland. Dish washing w/octobans. I paid 600. And plaid with 10 groups that wanted to create a sound. And on my journey I plaid DW,Sonar,Ludwig,Tama,Sabian,Zilgian custom and Sabian. My friend...take talent and rythem 2 another level.
