swords ain't no joke, if SHTF then not a lot of people will know how to make bullets! eventually bullets will run out, swords don't need bullets and bows also have reusable ammo. all these products have a place in this world.
ONE of the many reasons I watch you Chris , is your sense of humor ! That and the way you do things. You do not act like you are the ultimate bush-guru of the land , but a guy like me learning as I go. Thanks !
That's what we need, a video of you "cutting wind". :) Sorry about that, I couldn't resist. LOL. I had fun right along with you. Keep up the good vids, and the comic releif as well.
Once again another awesome video from PM101. I noticed that the audio in this video seems louder and more enhanced than usual. I turned the sound up to quick and almost blew this piggy's house down! Thank you again to the PM101 team that keeps us watching.
Thanks for the review. I trained Krabi Krabong before and have been looking for a good quality Thai Dap for a long time. Was wondering about this one and you answered my questions.
I'm surprised nobody has asked about the Italian Wolf Pack WP4 shown in the bottle cutting test. One of the most interesting survival blades ever sent to me. I can't stop playing with it.
I use the Wilson overgrip on my tennis rackets and you don't need to overlap it so heavily. I guess your way does provide a bit more cushion, but you could cover that whole grip if you didn't need the extra cushion. It holds its position very well.
"TH-cam is about entertainment, aswell as knowledge" and "Don't suck the fun out of life" are two lines that should be used against haters more often. Love your videos keep at it.
Lol love all the hater disclaimers. I actually find myself using a Cold Steel Cutlass machete quite a bit over the summers. I gave it a proper regrind and it cuts very well. Since I work in the 100 mile wilderness of Maine, the only people to judge me are my family, friends, and co-workers... and luckily they can't get rid of me easily. I have two concerns with this: 1) The handle looks pretty round. Most swords and large blades have more oval handles to helps line the edge up more intuitively. 2) It is really long. If you are cutting up brush, sometimes you get into tight spaces, and that handle may get in the way. I would firmly called this a Sword machete. It may be fun like a sword, but in design it is fundamentally different than a sword.
I thought I wanted a katana machete but it was too short, the bigger one was released and I had to wait a year to get one and then I ran out of play money when it was finally available with the sheath. But as soon as I saw this, there were no doubts. .... This is the one that I want! And the CS kukri plus machete which I am still waiting to be released.
It's really amazing to see, that you intuitively held it at the right spot. Many people get that wrong. Positioning the hand just one thumb away from the guard is absolutely right and should give you a great pivot to wield this blade, if this machete is balanced like a traditional war sword.
Cold steel Thai machete is a sword in Thailand. We use to fight only with double swords. Thai machete is similar to the krukri machete but it's more straight. Im Thai.
Hey, I sent the video to my son! Yesterday was my birthday 64 y/o. He got me one. Just how cool of a son is that. I am tickled to get it. Thanks for pointing it out, Cris. Very good video.
Just received mine today in the mail. factory edge was sharpish, but with slight burr felt on the left edge... i suppose essentially it is a no frills poly 2hander, sheetmetalesque blade, but for the price I payed, I am quite happy with it. I live in Australia FWIW.
I still gotta love the thing. Its funny how people actually would judge us just because the handle is different, but sadly they probably would. I get this crazy forest of 12' tall bamboo/rhubarb looking plants behind my garage and my wrist is pretty worn out by the time I get them chopped with my normal machete. I bet using two hands and some extra reach would help a ton. If I stencil "Craftsman" or "Ace Hardware" on the blade nobody would say crap. Awesome video. Keep up the great work!
I like it! I was thinking about buying one and your video was helpful. Personally I would have liked it to have a serrated back. If it had this feature, you might be able to use it for sawing since it has a double grip handle.
Perhaps..somebody have wondering about why Thai Sword have such of that long handle ....one of the reason is to protect your wrist upto the elbow during the flighting. Because if your wrist - elbow was cut / hurts ,... then it's easy for the eneny to take off your sword or finish your life. Hence every time you move your blade out , the handle with be in the direction to protect your wrist - elbow. So if it is the real thai sword .. there has not only come with the sharp blade , but the strong handle need to be provided as well.
really enjoyed the relaxed review and the nerd talk. it's just true. we all buy shit just because we think it's cool even though it has no real use and will most likely sit in the shed after we've played with it for a few weeks. Still always nice to stumble onto this stuff when you've forgotten about it and are hunting for something else. Just got the cold steel sjambock and am enjoying that :)
u got us, man! Star wars, lord of the rings and that stuff. U don't wan't anybody to see you??? How many subscribers did you have again??? U entertaint me another time greatly! Love your reviews and the style!
Surprised cold steel hasn't made a folder version oh and stop apologizing your doing fine. It's my favorite machete, the long handle gives it reach and better balance when using it one handed.I
I walked in a flea market scene one could not resist it and let with it love my machete Man your video is right on time. I only reason I have one is I wanted one found one and it’s a beauty..
to hell with the haters as you said and you said it best just enjoy it, i got the cold steel kukri styl machete and i enjoy useing it not only for chopping but it throws and hardly ever missis
This modern version is everything a dha lwe was in history, a bush tool and a weapon. I'm happy cold steel gave it the all, this deserves a piece of kydex to call home.
As a student of the sword I will say while it is cool, it absolutely by definition, not a sword. There is no distal taper at all. The blade geometry is completely off for that. It is a sword style machete though. I actually own a Thai Krabi and oddly enough while they were originally designed to be used as a machete they are now, actual swords. LoL. Looks like a fun tool though, good video.
a guy on amazon said the blade broke at the handle. my question is does the metal from the blade keep going all the way through the handle? Also, machetes are made for cutting trees, wood, some guy trying to kill you, whatever is in your path......
If you practice, swords are still a viable option for self defense today. Fire arms are obviously a factor, but if you're close range - if someone goes to reach, you can get to impact quicker than them, so long as you're within about 10 ft; almost every time (with practice)
Mine snapped right off where the blade and handle meet cold steel sent me another 1 and it did the same thing when i brought it camping. And both times it broke i was clearing light brush around the camp site. You must have got a good one, and don't get me wrong it looked and felt great until they snapped
Chris, I liked the review, love the CS Thai Machete. Is it practical for survival? ...probably not. Would It be fun to play with? Probably. Folks need to lighten up. I saw your video for the WP4 before this one so the cat was out of the bag. LOVE the WP4 (interesting, the uppercase 4 is the $ symbol, lol) but its out of my price range. Fortunately, I am a blacksmith and can make my own. Keep up the informative work.
PREPAREDMIND101: Nice practical video evulsion. I agree the Thai Sword/Machete seems to be more similar to an actual Katana, then the CS Katana, which is more like a Ninja TO. Maybe CS should make this and all the Sword Machete with Thicker and some with even longer Blades. I am thinking of as a survival tool defense weapon against dangerous wildlife like Snakes, the longer blade and handles helps, one could also rig up a handle to it for such purposes.
Yeah I was thinking about getting one for yard work but unfortunately it's a sword. I'll get a brush axe instead. Thank you for video, every video I could find was talking about it as a weapon and nothing else.
I have the Two Handed Panga by Cold Steel and it's ok for the lighter stuff but when striking anything solid it tends to flex and transfer that energy into the handle where it can twist pretty badly. My question is does this Thai Machete do anything similar when striking small trees on up? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't want anyone to see him with it..... puts on TH-cam for thousands to see hahaa. You crack me up. Definitely nailed the entertainment part on this one hahaa
Thanks Chris - love the review videos, thanks for another great one! Question - Can you (or anyone else!) please tell me what program is used to make the intro/end video animations??? Thanks HEAPS in advance!
Hi my friend, which would you preferred between condor.machete and cold.steel machete, I'm looking for something that feels more like a sword, I want.to modify the handle of a cutlass and make it like the thai machete. So you like the cs thai machete, But if condor.make something similar, which one would you preferred. Thanks your answer is gonna help me a lot.
I spent a few years as a rodman on a survey crew, that means I cut miles of brunch to take survey measurements. This is a great blackberry bush wacker.
Mine came with the blade so screwed up it took me almost 4 hours of filing and sharpening to get the edge right, but for the price I don't really care. I've been sharpening machetes for over 20 years so no big deal. Kind of wish it had more weight in the grip.
If the zombies get into your house, this thing may not be agile enough to be used there. What do you think? Also, if you happen to miss, how quickly do you think you could recover?
That actually looks like it would be good for clearing brush... Much better than the Gladius machete, and less likely to cut yourself too. It is always fun to do yard work with swords and such.
I'm waiting for someone to cut down a green sapling with a baby seal... "tree clubbing"... Eat that, hippies! It could also be done with a live rabbit, it just wouldn't be as ironic...
Darn it, now there's another Cold Steel machete I want. I like Cold Steel's sword machetes, I have intentions of getting their Kopis, Cutless, and Gladius machetes, once I get the Smatchet of course, and now I have to add the Thai machete to that list.
Subscribed! I love your humor lol. But do tell, how is the sheath? Is it on the floppy side or rigid to slide in and out easily like a katana? And go ahead and make a thats what she said joke.
your the king of modifications why haven't you tried to stipple the grips of some of your knives as opposed to the tape you love?? I've stippled a bk7 cold steel go tanto and a couple other knives its a huge improvement
Thank you ! now I have finaly found a nice EDC blade.
swords ain't no joke, if SHTF then not a lot of people will know how to make bullets! eventually bullets will run out, swords don't need bullets and bows also have reusable ammo. all these products have a place in this world.
Cameron stain Precisely but people who know advanced sword techniques will be good I pride myself on being able to use anything with a blade.
Block of lead or lots of fishing weights. Ball mold. 5lbs of Black Powder. 2000 caps. Revolver or Hawkins.
Yeah sword does't need bullets , sword needs balls when you are fighting somebody 3 feet away from you.
Cameron stain On the real homie!!!
Exactly. Saving casings or not, gun powder, lead and primers will be impossible to come by.
I don't appreciate you telling the whole world about my nerd gene.
jeremy beverly shhhhhhhhhhhh! I got told on too, if we're quiet maybe "they" will forget! ;)
haha y'all funny
ONE of the many reasons I watch you Chris , is your sense of humor ! That and the way you do things. You do not act like you are the ultimate bush-guru of the land , but a guy like me learning as I go. Thanks !
This is the most honest thing I've ever seen on TH-cam. Closed my blinds so nobody would see me watching it though.. 🤣
I turned up the volume on the bottle cut because the sound it made was so cool.
relax bro.
Thanks for the review. I trained Krabi Krabong before and have been looking for a good quality Thai Dap for a long time. Was wondering about this one and you answered my questions.
4:15-4:50 earned you a new subscriber. that was so honest, funny and true at the same time man. i loved this vid :D
I'm surprised nobody has asked about the Italian Wolf Pack WP4 shown in the bottle cutting test. One of the most interesting survival blades ever sent to me. I can't stop playing with it.
...or asked what LARPing is.
PREPAREDMIND101 Live Action Role Playing!!! and in the SHTF situation if they give you to much grief you do have a freakin sword!!!!!
@ $275 it becomes less interesting. ;)
Lets be honest on some level bushcraft and survival enthusiasts are LARPing.
hey randmon question do you always film on your land and how many acres would itbe?
Chris you're killing me. I've never wanted a machete before, until you sneak one out in the woods and beat crap out of it.
4:47 Trust me Chris, When my girlfriend isn't home i play with my sword
🤣 I got 2 full katana's my girl doesn't know about!
Isn't that what your girlfriend is for🤣
I use the Wilson overgrip on my tennis rackets and you don't need to overlap it so heavily. I guess your way does provide a bit more cushion, but you could cover that whole grip if you didn't need the extra cushion. It holds its position very well.
This is will go down as one of my favorite PM101 videos.
100% agree.
I agree
Nerd effects!

I really liked your approach to this video you were cracking me up. With that said I think I will get one and go play swords.
7:42 LOL that piece of wood hit the tripod! That was awesome haha.
Great video as always, Chris.
It looks a cut above the other coldsteel sword machetes. Some things are just cool to own. Thanks for sharing.
It's really amazing to see, that you intuitively held it at the right spot. Many people get that wrong. Positioning the hand just one thumb away from the guard is absolutely right and should give you a great pivot to wield this blade, if this machete is balanced like a traditional war sword.

Very good video.
Just scored one of these for Christmas! can't wait to get all nerdy with it!

"I will pause for the minds to blow". That entire review could have just been blinking and I would have thumbs uped based on that! Good job!
thanks for the tip about Wilson wrap! I filed down and wrapped up my cs tactical katana and it's so much more snug in my hands!
"real talk" around 4mins 30 SOOOOO true. and I totally love my one of these
Lmao man I really like this guy Hese honest as hell and seems like someone I could get along with 😂👍🏽👍🏽
I like it! I was thinking about buying one and your video was helpful. Personally I would have liked it to have a serrated back. If it had this feature, you might be able to use it for sawing since it has a double grip handle.
Dude. You pretty much nailed everything I thought before and after I bought this. And yes, it's hidden behind my bedroom cupboard
Just play with your tool Chris. Don't worry about it. Thanks for taking one for the channel, great vid.
I see it as a cheap and usable camp defense weapon when the coyotes come in for my dinner, but my spear is already on order.
Your video convinced me to buy one from a local dealer. That machete is a beauty and it feels like a sword when i am holding it
"nerd gene" Guilty as charged! LOL
That is cool for sure!

I loved your line, "This would be great for battle if it wasn't for thing called guns."
I had one for a couple years, snapped in half when I tried to use it to cut some roots one day, great machete overall would highly recommend
really enjoyed the relaxed review and the nerd talk. it's just true.

Cold Steel Thai Machete or Condor Discord Machete? That's the question. And a comparative between these 2 blades would be a very interesting video.

That was cool. Also don't forget that the Thai machete style comes from Thailand where it is jungle filled. Nice vid.
THANK YOU, no one had done a review on this for a while
a guy on amazon said the blade broke at the handle. my question is does the metal from the blade keep going all the way through the handle? Also, machetes are made for cutting trees, wood, some guy trying to kill you, whatever is in your path......
I love that Eragon joke!!
I got a Cold Steel all terrain chopper today and I live in England, please do a review.
Some people got broken blades on these according to the amazon reviews. Looks like you got a good one.
get saved mine came a bit warped but I know how to repair warps and stuff be careful who you buy it from Amazon is like a thrid party market
Awesome Machete video, we need more sword videos... I feel more comfortable in the bush with a 40" sword than I do a side arm...
I thought it may have been some of your new equipment you had mentioned. Again thanks for the awesome videos!
Great review on this! It looks like a beast
It's a bit heavy and not balanced right for practicing Thai daab style. But as a sword/machete for outdoor use and in general it is pretty nice.
It's a 30 blade
If you practice, swords are still a viable option for self defense today.
Fire arms are obviously a factor, but if you're close range - if someone goes to reach, you can get to impact quicker than them, so long as you're within about 10 ft; almost every time (with practice)

What do you think of the Cold Steel All Terrain Chopper (2h version). I would love to see what you say about it.
Ever think of trying to stipple some of your synthetic handles instead if wilson wrap
PREPAREDMIND101:

I have a question if you had to pick one knife to survive with what would it be?
Yeah I was thinking about getting one for yard work but unfortunately it's a sword. I'll get a brush axe instead. Thank you for video, every video I could find was talking about it as a weapon and nothing else.
The wind blowing the leafes away when you mentioned the ninjas.
Fun to watch, thanks for your reviews and humor.
Never joke about the woods ninjas.
1) Thai is not ninjas, japanese is
2) We are not japanese
@@sealoftoaster1969 just what a ninja would say ha
I have the Two Handed Panga by Cold Steel and it's ok for the lighter stuff but when striking anything solid it tends to flex and transfer that energy into the handle where it can twist pretty badly.
My question is does this Thai Machete do anything similar when striking small trees on up?
Thanks in advance.
It has its uses, if in light brush with lots of briars or vines is nice to have something to keep your hands away so you don't get scratched up. For 90% of the line cutting I do (land surveying in the Southeast U.S.) I use a 2 handed Latin, for the thicker, heavier blade.
Both take and hold a great working edge with a bastard file, and in 6 years have not had any Cold Steel product break.
I can't say that about Ontario, Cornetto, Tramontina or Fiskars, have broken all of them at one time or another due to being too rigid. Yes, machetes are for light brush, but if you hit a 10 inch oak a quarter mile down line, you use what you've got if you can't traverse around.
If the handle was 4" or so inches shorter, while staying balanced, id get one in a heartbeat. For brush clearing, a 14.5"handle is a bit much to weild all day
Doesn't want anyone to see him with it..... puts on TH-cam for thousands to see hahaa. You crack me up. Definitely nailed the entertainment part on this one hahaa
"Just wanna...Play with your sword..." This will be my new yearbook quote...
So you like the cs thai machete,
But if condor.make something similar, which one would you preferred.
Thanks your answer is gonna help me a lot.
Great video Chris. Really enjoyed it, and I want one of these to go LARPing....lol. Cold Steel is an awesome company, with awesome products.
On the subject of cold steel machete when are you going to review the barong machete?
Good video I enjoyed the last half alot thanks
I spent a few years as a rodman on a survey crew, that means I cut miles of brunch to take survey measurements. This is a great blackberry bush wacker.
Perfect!! Great vid man, if you can't have fun what the hell good is life? I've looked at this one for a couple years...now I gotta have one. Thanks!
Good review. I like this kind of sword machete too -- the well balanced kind.
Always a great review sir!
Woohoo! I'm not the only one who has fun with my choppers!!
Mine came with the blade so screwed up it took me almost 4 hours of filing and sharpening to get the edge right, but for the price I don't really care. I've been sharpening machetes for over 20 years so no big deal. Kind of wish it had more weight in the grip.
Fun? This thing cuts two pigs in half!!
thanks for not cutting wind. great review!
It looks like the handle is a little to round and so you get a little rolling in the hand.
If the zombies get into your house, this thing may not be agile enough to be used there. What do you think? Also, if you happen to miss, how quickly do you think you could recover?
is the thai machete still in one piece after heavy use?
The cool factor alone makes it worth the price.
That actually looks like it would be good for clearing brush... Much better than the Gladius machete, and less likely to cut yourself too. It is always fun to do yard work with swords and such.
+Arthur Seery good for jungle brush. :)
It’s all in the wrist not intended for 2 hands the machete but cool for a novelty
You should review the Marbles sword machete. It's a single handed short saber.
Hey Chris do you think you could cut those trees down with that machete , the trees you were cutting the twigs off of? Just curious >:)
Easily. I limit that testing on camera so I don't run afoul of the TH-cam Lorax Brigade.
I'm waiting for someone to cut down a green sapling with a baby seal... "tree clubbing"... Eat that, hippies!
It could also be done with a live rabbit, it just wouldn't be as ironic...
what do you like better the condor discord or the thai machette
Darn it, now there's another Cold Steel machete I want.
I like Cold Steel's sword machetes, I have intentions of getting their Kopis, Cutless, and Gladius machetes, once I get the Smatchet of course, and now I have to add the Thai machete to that list.
I have the kopis and the cutlass. You will love them. The kopis is light and a monster chopper.
Subscribed! I love your humor lol.
But do tell, how is the sheath? Is it on the floppy side or rigid to slide in and out easily like a katana? And go ahead and make a thats what she said joke.
You need this machete/sword because it is COOL!
your the king of modifications why haven't you tried to stipple the grips of some of your knives as opposed to the tape you love?? I've stippled a bk7 cold steel go tanto and a couple other knives its a huge improvement
