Just uploaded a video showing how to connect to your server over the internet th-cam.com/video/ZjiKMyrMm78/w-d-xo.html
So Filezilla launched new gui, which is completely different from what we all knew and loved and doesn't even bother to update their official documentation.
Thanks for the vid.
Been through about 10 tutorials today - this is the most clear one by far (for the new version) I have found. Good work and greetings from the UK :-)
Thankyou. Glad you found it helpful.
Many thanks for this awesome tutorial!
Finally somebody explains the new FileZilla v1.0.1
Glad I could help
Thank you for such a concise tutorial that absolutely solved the issue I was having. Subscribed now
Glad I could help, thanks.
Iv been looking for ways to convert an old desktop into an FTP server from others and myself use and access remotely. I think this is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks you!
Awesome tutorial! Nice, simple and clean explaination . Thank you !!!
Thanks. Glad it helped.
Thanks, great video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Oh I get it now, thank you
Thank you very much, for your help. It has been successful
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching
thank U
You're welcome!
It worked and I can connect EXCEPT I can't retrieve the files. Here's what appears (to my simple mind) to be where the issue is in the log if it helps:
Status: Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead.
Command: MLSD
Response: 550 Couldn't open the file or directory
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
Thanks for the help :)
check 2:40 regarding passive mode and 5:32 for port forwarding of the passive range
@@MadAboutTutorials yeah I ended up figuring it out, I just had to open the passive port range in the windows firewall, sorry I forgot to edit the comment! 😅
Thanks again for your help, couldn’t have done it without you
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have one question. When i access my ftp folder from another computer it opens shared folder, however it always open another folder that is empty. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks
you control what each account can access, as seen here th-cam.com/video/ZjiKMyrMm78/w-d-xo.html just point the path to the folder that you are storing your shared files in. It will first open a root directory with your share directory in it. Thanks
Thanks mate. You have a best tutorial. Just a question, can you access ftp server via web-browser from outside? I have a client who wants to upload a file and I don't want to ask him to download filezilla client... Can you please help?
Thanks for watching and great question. You can connect to an ftp and download files using chrome, but you can't upload ( edge doesn't support ftp atm and Firefox has cancelled their support). But your client can connect using any FTP client software, it doesn't need to be filezilla, there are also heaps of apps you can use on android to connect to an FTP. Hope this helps.
I'm having a problem, after it install (but before it open the server) it says it has an API and wont allow me to connect
Hi question do I need to add user if I’m the only one using this
Yes. You need login details, even if it's just you.
Do you know why it would say "Verifying certificate"? Is it supposed to say success or something after a while?
Turns out there is no "success" message for this on the new version. The lack of an error should indicate that your certificate was fine.
Can you please tell me how to give external address to someone over the internet to connect to my folder? How to write that virtual path in URL in browser?
Just type in to google "what's my IP"
@@MadAboutTutorials I did, I got the address, am I supposed to put that in place of my local Ip? Which you did in in starting?
The issue is even with that local address, I was able to setup everything. How do I test it if it’s working.
I tried ftp://(my local ip) and then it asked for username and pw, I gave the one while setting up that user like you did but it keeps loading and in the end it won’t connect.
please create a video to setup ftp over internet (external)
will do, ill try to get it done this week
@@MadAboutTutorials thanks

1.3.1, doesn't work. Can't see any of the directories despite I did the passive thing.
do you offer any support with this?
do we do anything with security?
I can log in with ftp, but not ftps. How can I provide security?
Although I have no affiliation with FilleZilla, I can Help you. SFTP can be set up to offer secure file transfer, but this doesn't stop someone "hacking" in to your server, all this does is encrypts your files during the transfer process to protect against a "Man-in-the-middle" attack, it's a pretty un-likely occurrence. Unless you're a high target for commercial espionage, I wouldn't worry too much about SFTP. I would focus on having strong passwords for both the admin side and the users, enable Autoban for failed login attempts, and having a good router / firewall set up. I will be away for the next week, but I will make another video showing how to harden the security on an ftp server when I return. Thanks for watching.
@@MadAboutTutorials Thank you. Also curious, if I was making a certificate in 1.0.1, what is "Distinguished name" and "Hostname". Thanks.
@@MadAboutTutorials Further, I got a new router where I"m using the older version of the server. I've never had issues connected ftp and ftps. However, with new router, I cannot get past an error stating: 425 Can't open data connection for transfer of "/". I've spent hours going nuts. Cannot figure out why this is.
What is to have a administration password? And is it safe. And for even I want to uninstall the filezilla.
The administrator password is so that you can manage your server remotly, its safe.
I have a Comcast Business router, and it's different. If anyone can help, that would be great! I'm trying to remote into my server from another network.
I found this on their website.(business.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/comcast-business-ip-gateway-static-firewall ) follow the steps on "Port triggering", similar process to the steps in this video th-cam.com/video/2XtL8E3Vwm0/w-d-xo.html
@@MadAboutTutorials Thanks, I'm doing something wrong. I'm getting this message when I try to establish a connection "Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead."
On Port Triggering, I have my Trigger Port(s) set to 40000~41000 and my Target port(s) to 2180~3000. The service type is TCP
@@fredrickcustard9024 Start by checking if your port forwarding rules are being applied properly by seeing if they can be accessed from outside your network by using something like dnschecker.org/port-scanner.php , then you will know which side to tackle next. If the ports show as open then you will know its your FTP server config, if they're closed, its your router. Let me know how you go.
Im lost in making nat port to access external
give this video a watch to see if it helps. th-cam.com/video/JUmbtX3S1W0/w-d-xo.html also ask your ISP if you are being protected under CG NAT, this will prevent any public port forwarding from working.
@@MadAboutTutorials yes hi im able to connect throw a window like i right
ftp://localhost ip /
And i can Access but can't from phone even if it's same wifi used and do i need a host to do external ftp serve?
for some reason I cannot remote connect
give us some details on where you're up to, if you're connecting from inside or outside your LAN, and what the server console is saying when you try to connect, I'll do my best to help you get this sorted.
@@MadAboutTutorials 503 login error, critical error could not connect to the server HELP!!
@@Viktor-fb4gj usually caused by incorrect username, password or server address
you really should have demoed the port forwarding bit. Totally lost you there
Port forwarding is always a stumbling block for many, I've got lots of vids on this topic.if your still stuck, HMU with any questions.
This new version is nice but not very intuitive as the old version. What the heck...
Agreed.
Thanks for the video. however I did everything as you, I'm trying to connect locally and I encounter such a errot:
User (192.168.1.18:(none)): marcin
